@HollieandMaurice Illogical comparison. This is Muni Metro, a light rail system that runs at tight headways. 200mph high speed rail would require only a limited number of daily intercity trips. No two trains heading in the same direction will ever meet in one place, with the exception of sidings.

In 2008 it had the 2nd highest total violent crime AND murder rate of any large city in California (Oakland was first) and the third largest amount of murders, after LA and Oakland. theliberlassuckdick may be a fucking idiot, but hes right about that. Check your own facts next time. As for why it crashed, the driver took the controls off auto when he wasn't supposed to and then fell asleep, if i remember right.

Yeah, the problem was that the driver switched it from auto to manual about 24 seconds before impact. These trains are supposed to run on auto through the underground and on manual in the streets. This station (West Portal) is the point where the tunnel ends and the rest of the route is on the street. However, drivers are not cleared to switch to manual until they are actually leaving the station and there is no other train in front of theirs. Obviously those conditions didn't apply here.
