<3 First off, let me say that ITAOTS is, without a doubt, my favorite album of all time (and, incidentally, The Diary of Anne Frank was my favorite book as a young teen). Secondly, though, I wonder if Jeff had ever heard of Sophie Scholl. If you want to read something really poignant, look up the webcomic Subnormality, post 474, "The Line." Probably one of the most inspiring things I've ever read.
I just finished Flyboys by James Bradley, and while I'd love to say that all of the horrible and graphic things described in that book shocked and appalled me, they didn't. Man is a naturally cruel beast, and war is the physical manifestation of that cruelty. I cannot pity the young soldier who suffers an early death after taking the lives of others. I can only pity those thrust into the chaotic heart of the storm against their will by world leaders who prefer destruction to negotiation.
@blithium and while I realize that the above comment really had very little to do with the song's content, I still had to listen to it as soon as I finished the book. All I can do is quote the musical Chess, and then give two final words to sum up my thoughts.
The quote: Let man's petty nations tear themselves apart.
the lyrics aren't about semen... he says that once. "semen stains the mountain tops" and that's to show the mindset of youth and growing up. Because as teenagers anything can be turned into sex... and he sings this way because it adds to the music. the boy playing the piano is a reference to Pepito Arriola who is one of the biggest examples for people to cite about reincarnation. He was able to play the piano remarkable well, before he could read music or even written words, at the age of 3, much like another well know composer who had died about 100 years earlier.
@Danlow258 That's really interesting. Sometimes I'd rather not know what certain obscure or cryptic lyrics refer to (preferring instead to just enjoy the imagery), but in this case knowing definitely enhances my appreciation of the song)...
i like how ridiculously obvious the photos are...when he says little boy in spain he has a pic of a little boy on a piano then a picture flames....very direct.

In the Jabaliya refugee camp, the Associated Press found a crater that was still producing acrid smoke days after the war ended, and a lump of white phosphorus burst into flames after some boys dug it up from beneath some sand.
that seems to remind me of the 10,468 rockets and mortars that gazans have launched into israel.
israel did not launch the white phosphorus to kill children and other civilians. they used it as an artillery spotter. while this does not excuse the casualties, it shows that their motivation is different from that of hamas, who tries to kill israeli civilians and then hides behind their own.

the first ballpoint pens went on sale at Gimbels department store in New York City on 29 October 1945 for US$12.50 each
On the morning of Monday, July 6, 1942,[17] the [frank] family moved into the hiding place.
This is from wikipedia. 1945 >1942 so its a hoax
