1. Washington is the only sitting President to put back on his military uniform and go back into the field.
2. He camped at Carlisle and sent Alexander Hamilton forward with an amnesty message (the distillers were also veterans).
3. The new states acted more like sovereign countries until the Civil War, with the Southern States portending its cause as States Rights not slavery, so a Whiskey Tax was not going to go down well.
They used whiskey as money in some parts of the country back then so a tax on whiskey was like a tax on money. Just a little info so you don't think they were a bunch of angry drunks.
KenMacMillan: They were angry drunks. Like the "tea party" protesters of today they thought that Congress had no right to pass laws that the majority of Americans elected them to pass. The Whiskey Rebels like their "tea party" spawn believed that an angry mob of tax evaders could nullify federal law. They were wrong then and wrong today.
Why is he in uniform during his presidency? During the Whiskey Rebellion I'd imagine he'd be in civilian clothing. To those who believe you can't trust anyone to be president I advise you to back your opinion up and do more research. Message me when you do so and show me proof.
history shows us that washington was more of a get the fuck away from me, cold shoulder, kind of guy.
Seriously, surely you've heard the story of alexander hamilton betting Governeur morris a free dinner if he would slap washington on the back to greet him
washington removed his hand silently while giving him a cold stare, then walked away
that doesn't sound like a person who smiles ^ that much lol
No, history shows us that he was a brilliant leader with human faults. He was not cold shouldered. Have you even read that when offered to make his HQ as well as his home at Valley Forge he instead stayed in the cold with his men until they had shelter? Washington strive to please everyone. He gave up so much of his lifetime for the country.
anyone else think the american 'revolution' was a sham?
