@vividwatch47 Andy Park? Do you mean Gary Park, the former sports anchor and TV color comm. person for the S.F. Giants? if you mean Gary Park, he retired in the late 1980s and died (of cancer) a couple of years ago.
Looks like a fire scene at the start of the newscast(before this clip cuts out). Was that anywhere south of SFO Airport?
I ask because my folks and I lived there in early 77, and my ENT doctor's office was in the area southwest of the Airport between El Camino Real and the 101. One afternoon, as we drove off the exit en route to the appointment, there was a fire in the vicinity that made the newscasts, and we saw all the fire trucks battling the blaze. Was that it?
I wish we could watch the entire news show. I would almost pay for a dvd collection. do they sell them? Anyways did she have cancer. I think her hair is grey now. Umm.. Oh yah I love the voice over at the begining. He was in the animation Monster Inc isnt he.. what's his name
He's the late Paul Frees, a former Marin County resident. He was a longtime voiceover artist. His voice is so recognizable because it was virtually everywhere. His was the voice you heard at the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. He was also the voice of the spots KFRC aired every hour for a brief time in 1978 that had 8 seconds of dead air to allow alien contact in the wake of the release of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."
@dinfg6 I think he did weekends and beat reporting in '77. I don't recall Dennis becoming the lead anchor (at night) until some time in the early 80s .Maybe I'm wrong about this but that is what I remember.
Dennis Richmond begain his career at KTVU as a clerk typist and upon the urging of Bella Davis Dennis took a scholarship to a University some where back East to study Jorualism. Sometime around the mid-1960s, FCC pushed the networks to hire more persons of color including women, and thats where Dennis got his start! he was a beat reporter and then around late 1976 and begain anchoring the mid-day news.
Dennis Richmon at the time was a reporter and when he was not doing that he was mid-day anchor for the 1:55 or 2:55 news. Back then they were moved around Claude Mann also filled in. Later Dennis became a full-time anchor news person for the 10:00p.m. news. Ysabel Duran came later to KTVU in the year of 1978
Back in 1978 I had the honor of meeting the late Claude Mann, and Dennis Richmond at
KTVU studios.

Whatever happened to Andy Park? He was at KPIX before he came to KTVU, and somewhat vanished in the late '70s.

Perhaps the most unusual opening for a newscast I've ever seen. It's as if KTVU wants to take you on a tour of the laser 2's digestive tract...

Where was Dennis Richmond at in 1977
dinfg6 3 years ago
He was at KTVU then. He was promoted to anchorman in 1976. I am not sure whether Ysobel Duran was just a substitute or a weekend anchor.
