I love this version by Safire. Why are people so mean? We all know how great Michael Jackson was, duh!!!! When you insult this version, you insult him considering he wrote it LOL!
Great song, and I like this singer ! She did a great job singing this. And, of course, I like MJ's version also. I'm surprised at the number of songs MJ wrote or co-wrote for others. I'm surprised he even had the time ! I wonder how many more there are. Thanks for posting this video !!
All you people continuing to leave comments such as "MJ's version is better" and whatnot, that is a very ridiculous assumption to say, especially due to the fact that you're comparing a song that has been remastered in a studio with modern technology to a song that was released in 1991, which in addition has been tailored to appeal to the music taste of today's audience. Think about 1991, the instruments and beats used in this video were popular at the time, obviously. Have a little common sense
I think its a bit unfair to say MJs is better. He is a one and only legend. You cant compare any other artists never mind Safire. Dont be so silly. Safire did this song greatly in her own right. Also if you watch her interview about it she actually sang it the MJ told her to.
I remember when Sa-Fire's album came out in '91...it was her second (and last) that Mercury Records licensed from her label, Cutting Records. Production-wise..hey, it was the '90s and synth-pop was still the rage. Sa-Fire did a fine job with this song. As far as putting this against Michael's original, it's comparing apples to oranges, so why bother.
C'mon people get your facts straight. This song was written by MJ & Paul Anka. MJ gave his blessings to Safire to use the song in the early 90's for her "I Wasn't born yesterday" album. How are you going to keep comparing MJ to her? She had nothing to do with sony decision to release one of his old demos.
co-wriiten by paul anka , then anka anted it back , he got it back but michael had taped it.afire put it on her album but it wasn't a single.sony released it after michael's death so michael can't be blamed.sony are putting out too many greatest hits but the industry is un by suits.
First of all we all know that michael is the best entertainer of all times so to compare these two artist is very foolish safire did a good job and im sure michael heard her version and approve it this girl is talented but overlook and very loyal to michael for not selling him out like everybody else did you go safire stay loyal to the king of pop.
Michael Jackson's version is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better .. I love u Michael ..
I saw This Is It the movie and God he was amazing .. he looked young, healthy and Very HOT :p that's how he shud always be remembered .. An extraordinory talented hb whose music reached the hearts of millions of people and still does .. He sure did make the world a better place :'))
we should blame Sony for not checking the song's copyrights! Sony DUMB!!! and Paul Anka SHOULDN'T call Michael Jackson a thief! Paul Anka was blinded by Sony BMG. Blame Sony! Blame Sony! Blame Sony!
this is it it isn´t singed by michael jackson! that song had made sony. with another singer they want the money thats because they say that the song are from michael jackson! thats only for the money ..that song dont stand on the songlist of the concerts
well, i think who ever sings this song is good no matter who sing it! safire your the best keep it going! and for all of you fuck off haters! diva you go girl!
This song was written by Michael, but not produced by Michael. It's too simple made. If Michael sang this back in the day with this beat it wouldn't have been a hit - it would sound like more like a filler track. The version of "I never heard" that sony released unter the title "this is it", is just fine. It doesn't need any beats and any synthbass. It's a mixture of his yearning early years and his messianic later period, and it shines a light on the best aspects of both: his voice..

This beat is better, the MJ version does sound like a demo, not really polished, and not the Hit-making material i expect from MJ. However, if MJ sang this back in the day with this beat... it would have been a hit for sure. The beat even has a "Bad" era kind of sound, a perfect match. That being said... this chick's voice is horrendous - who the fuck is she? I don't remember her, and if this is any indication of her "talent" then this is why i don't.

saffire and michael worked on it together... back in late 80s... but for wtv reason.. didnt work out.. gave saffire back the legal rights.. but he apparently kept a copy.. and changed some words... and implemented his style.. which is way better then this garbage.
first of all calling someone a bitch is extremely chidish. Why would anyone compare these two song one came out years ago and now this version of michael came out a few days ago whats the problem i think the issue here is not safire she did nothing wrong for name calling now sony there fuckin stupit as hell for lieing to us fans not safire some of these blogs sound like a little kid writing stupit remarks.
Look you fruit, I can give my opinion and the song is crap. End of story. It's not up for discussion and if you have something ugly to say to me you can go to hell.
You can compare MJ to R.Kelly, Luther Vandross, anyone..and most likely MJ's will be better. He was above them all. But of course, you can't take away from the sound Safire put together for that song. It was still really good. You can't take away from that.
Q fuerte me parece.
I don't care what anyone says..I love Safire's version. you have to realize the time it was reecorded and the era of music. Safire is def a talented artists, but did not get as much recognition as MJ obviously. I love her song, and honestly like it more than MJ's. Esp since MJs was not complete and was terrible quality. Hopefully Safire returns with something so people can realize how talented she is.
oh ur confused! at first u said you liked mjs version and now ur saying u like this ulgy no talent loser version better. wow u have serious problems. make up ur mind! ur either confused or stupid! hmm lets go with stupid! michaels version is way better! she cant sing she needs to get a life! and do something else that wont hurt ppls ears! MJ IS WAY BETTER!
As I read, Anka & Jackson are denoted as the composers on Safires album. The Management didnt know about that. Now they do. That's the problem with posthumous song-releases. But what's the big deal? Who defines this as a rip-off? That's nonsense.
Well, this arrangement sounds rather antiquated and timeworn. I also like the new/old version much better: The string arrangent and Michaels singing makes this simple song more interesting.
Does sb. know, why Michael Jackson and Paul Anka fall out with each other???
Why compare its not fair to compare these artist michael is michael and safire is safire two different individual one came out 18 years ago and one just got release yesterday so how can anyone in there write state of mine compare this . i give props to both artists.
Sorry...doesn't really work for her, does it? Only Mike can make this work...and he does! RIP, MIKE. So sad...controversy...even now. It's the biz, he would say. People will ALWAYS talk. He said that too. Pay them no mind...
pls search here on youtube"EXCLUSIVE SONY EXECUTIVE INTERVIEW ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON" there's a lot of info public must know spread it and thank you godbless!!
"this is it" by MJ was recorded around the same time Safire recorded the same song as "i never heard". The song was not released commercially by MJ and instead was given to Safire. You can find it on her album "i wasn't born yesterday"(1991).
pls search here on youtube"EXCLUSIVE SONY EXECUTIVE INTERVIEW ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON" there's a lot of info public must know spread it and thank you godbless!!
I don't think "This is it" sung by Michael are recently recorded. If you listen it carefully, you will find the difference. His voice became mature in his fortits, but the song seems like to be an old song sung by young Michael . Besides, it was not delicate and exquisite as we know for Michael's style.
yes you're right, the song is about 18 years old, which showes that Sony just wants to make money with Michaels death. He would have never liked to publish this sing, you can notice that it's not even finished! Poor Michael, fuck off Sony!
pls search here on youtube"EXCLUSIVE SONY EXECUTIVE INTERVIEW ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON" there's a lot of info public must know spread it and thank you godbless!!
The Jackson's have acknowledged that Paul Anka is Co-author of this song and he will receive 50% of the song's profits and acknowlegement of co author for the song.
Bullshit. They were about to get sued by Mr. Anka so had to come up with 50% of the profits instead of dragging it out through courts. They had made such a huge balls up with not finding out who was all involved in the song first and boy do they know it
Yup you're right. Just nice to know as a writer that Mr Anka's part has also been recognised too. :-) Cos honestly it means a big deal to composers to be recognised for their pieces of work aye.
my god,you people are pathetic..who cares where the song came from and who wrote it,michael sings it beautiful and its perfect for the movie.how could sony know paul anka co wrote the song until he told them...geez michael will you ever rest---i love you and will buy any song you sing
You ignorant fuck! "who cares where the song came from and who wrote it" You piece of ignorant crap. If the writer hadn't written it then the bloody song wouldn't exist.
yes, and how wierd it should be posted on Youtube the day after MJ died. There really is something strange going on with MJs death... i dont know what it is, but something aint right with all of this.
pls search here on youtube"EXCLUSIVE SONY EXECUTIVE INTERVIEW ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON" there's a lot of info public must know spread it and thank you godbless!!
the song was co-written by Mchael Jackson and Paul Anka in the 80's and Safire sang it . Michael didn't want to include this song in his album of the wall why? i don't know but now this is it is a new version and in my opinion this is it sounds amazing in michael jackson's voice
Michael never said him was the composer, Sony music did. why blame you Michael? Paul Anka don't say anything till the song apparition on net.(they has an agreement?) "They" try once again make monney with his work
If they wanted to pay of Michael Jacksons debts then all of his belongings are worth three times as much as his debt so thats no problem. Its only Sony trying to make cash out of the King Of Pop. Wish he was here to see all of this :(
wow - the mj fans would think he's a god are really taking this hard. chill out, safire just sang the song. she meant no harm, she didnt even know he was going to leave this earth when she recorded the song. Safire has a wonderful and she did good with the song. what all the hate?? spread the love my friends!!
they all asumed that "this is it" was gonna be Michael's new single just because of the title.. when its simply a demo song Michael had made..( which is wayyyy better then this may i add) Its all a guessing game for everyone now and Michael isnt here to tell everyone whats what. sony is silly what a mess up BIG TIME!! most money greedy company in the WORLD!!
stop with the hating on Safire - she was given this great opportunity to sing a great song and she sang it her way. i really enjoy it and so do others. she recorded this song nearly 20 years ago - focuse ur negative energy on Sony Music and the those involved with its release.
Paul Anka is a MUSIC LEGEND who was very famous pop star in the 50's and 60's long before Michael. They intented to record a duo song but in the end, the song was rejected. Now Sony wanna make money out of Michael's dead by re-naming the song "this is it" and sell it to us. I'm not making them any richer, I'm not buying this crap!
Well if you co-wrote something wouldn't you have 50% right to it? And we are only hearing a one sided story on this. Michael isn't hear to tell his side. What I have learned so far is NEVER TO BELIEVE WHATEVER I READ. Read everything with a pinch of salt. And in case you haven't noticed, the lyrics to safire's version and MJ's demo are not exactly the same and if u listen closely he is murmuring sometimes as if he was writing the lyrics while singing. I think it was more of an MJ song than Anka
The way I see it, Sony and MJ's estate have screwed up big time. It's one thing to promote a song as 'brand new material' and quite another to recycle an old song that has already been recorded by another artist. MJ never released this song himself for a reason. Sony should just have been honest with the details surrounding this song instead of being underhanded which, incidentally, is the way they behaved towards MJ when he was alive. Remember, Sony now owns 75% of MJ's Beatles catalog.
I love this version by Safire. Why are people so mean? We all know how great Michael Jackson was, duh!!!! When you insult this version, you insult him considering he wrote it LOL!

MJ version is way better... MJ voice has more quality. Safire voice os throaty!!
shahecmar 2 years ago
Ah, the 90s version.

"this is it" by MJ was recorded around the same time Safire recorded the same song as "i never heard". The song was not released commercially by MJ and instead was given to Safire. You can find it on her album "i wasn't born yesterday"(1991).

I don't think "This is it" sung by Michael are recently recorded. If you listen it carefully, you will find the difference. His voice became mature in his fortits, but the song seems like to be an old song sung by young Michael . Besides, it was not delicate and exquisite as we know for Michael's style.
ilovemydogable 2 years ago
yes you're right, the song is about 18 years old, which showes that Sony just wants to make money with Michaels death. He would have never liked to publish this sing, you can notice that it's not even finished! Poor Michael, fuck off Sony!

The Jackson's have acknowledged that Paul Anka is Co-author of this song and he will receive 50% of the song's profits and acknowlegement of co author for the song.
x10snut 2 years ago
Bullshit. They were about to get sued by Mr. Anka so had to come up with 50% of the profits instead of dragging it out through courts. They had made such a huge balls up with not finding out who was all involved in the song first and boy do they know it
fromtheBOP 2 years ago
either way Michael still co-wrote half the song
1980Triumph 2 years ago
Yup you're right. Just nice to know as a writer that Mr Anka's part has also been recognised too. :-) Cos honestly it means a big deal to composers to be recognised for their pieces of work aye.

This is the song Paul Anka wrote with MJ and now MJ recorded it and changed it to "This Is It".
So she does sing the words "This is it" in it. I thought the lyrics had been changed, the hook part but apparently not.

yes, and how wierd it should be posted on Youtube the day after MJ died. There really is something strange going on with MJs death... i dont know what it is, but something aint right with all of this.

the song was co-written by Mchael Jackson and Paul Anka in the 80's and Safire sang it .

Michael Jackson's version sounds better.
The percussion on this smothers the melody.
Paul Anka's happy now that everything's been sorted out (especially the label credit and his share of the dosh).

stop with the hating on Safire - she was given this great opportunity to sing a great song and she sang it her way. i really enjoy it and so do others. she recorded this song nearly 20 years ago - focuse ur negative energy on Sony Music and the those involved with its release.

"Who is this Anka guy anyways? My first impression of him is opportunistic and a liar."
Yeah... as well as the co-writer of the actual song. The tapes mysteriously left his studio and ended up in MJ's. Who's opportunistic and a liar?
You're going to have to discard your belief that being the biggest popstar ever removes your obligation to comply with copyright law.
isackiuk 2 years ago 3
Paul Anka is a MUSIC LEGEND who was very famous pop star in the 50's and 60's long before Michael. They intented to record a duo song but in the end, the song was rejected. Now Sony wanna make money out of Michael's dead by re-naming the song "this is it" and sell it to us. I'm not making them any richer, I'm not buying this crap!
Melphistox 2 years ago
Well if you co-wrote something wouldn't you have 50% right to it? And we are only hearing a one sided story on this. Michael isn't hear to tell his side. What I have learned so far is NEVER TO BELIEVE WHATEVER I READ. Read everything with a pinch of salt. And in case you haven't noticed, the lyrics to safire's version and MJ's demo are not exactly the same and if u listen closely he is murmuring sometimes as if he was writing the lyrics while singing. I think it was more of an MJ song than Anka
luv4uful 2 years ago
The way I see it, Sony and MJ's estate have screwed up big time. It's one thing to promote a song as 'brand new material' and quite another to recycle an old song that has already been recorded by another artist. MJ never released this song himself for a reason. Sony should just have been honest with the details surrounding this song instead of being underhanded which, incidentally, is the way they behaved towards MJ when he was alive. Remember, Sony now owns 75% of MJ's Beatles catalog.
