Well Britain would freeze because the greenland icecaps would release thosands of cubic tonnes of cold freshwater into the sea. Even if Global Warming isn't on the scale of what everyone is making it out to be and the earth is just making a cycle, the polar ice caps are still melting, and melting quickly, it's causing animals to become endangered and the sea level to rise, if they melt completely (and I'm not saying they will) then where I live (central Florida) won't be so central anymore, I'll be living on the beach, meaning many will die and we will have less land to live on. This needs to be prevented.

Just because the earth goes through a climate cycle doesn't mean it can be affected by humans. So that argument doesn't make any sense. A plant will go through a cycle: growing and losing leaves but that doesn't mean a person can't go and off all the leaves. Natural things are constantly being changed by people.

Global Warming may or may not be true. But Global climate change due to industrialization is true. Whether it is only affecting the natural change in climate a little or a lot. Extra carbon dioxide, methane and Sulphuric acid and many more chemicals are being released into the atmosphere. These chemicals being being released into the atmosphere act as insulation causing UV radiation to be trapped in the atmosphere after it has entered. It may not affect temperature but it will affect climate.

NASA, here in the US had to redo it's calculations on global temps when a student at MIT realized they got it wrong. The warmest average temp happened in the 1930's when the central states were nothing but a big dust bowl. AND, Antarctica, one of the coldest places on Earth, used to be tropical. Of course the earth goes through natural cycles of warming and cooling, but it would be plain ignorant to assume that humans do not influence those cycles in some form. We may not be the sole cause of a Global Warming phenomenon but we definitely contribute to the process in some way with everything that we pump into the environment. You see sven, CO2 is released whenever carbon is oxidized. In plain english: Whenever something that contains carbon, C, (Plants, animals, remains of these etc.) burns. This also applies to oil, coal and other fossil fuels which are in fact almost pure Carbon. Really basic chemistry, but I see from other comments that chemistry is not your hobby. On the other hand, vaporized water is in fact a more important greenhouse-gas that CO2. The last one there is something sceptics use as an argument.

Look up 'green house effect' online and you will see that the mechanism that causes global warming is not so hard to believe. I am certainly not able to make that judgement by having a 2/1 in physics. I needed to read up on the subject. I recommend the IPCC reports, to start with. Scientists are sometimes wrong but the link between human activity and climate change is as sure as the link between smoking and lung cancer; surer for me as I have read a great deal about the latter. People are lazy, that's a sad fact about people. They get on with their lives and tend to believe the talking points and headlines just to have something to whine about in the pub.

It is sad, but, eh, the few of us that do our own research can always try to go against the mainstream.

The Government likes to jump on bandwagons which they think will get Money, and backing from the public, the public will believe shit, and scream for the gvt to do something and yeah.

our gcse science teacher said that since the world created it has had cold and warm spots over a few hundreds of years, which basicaly means atm were in a cold spot. which HAS happned a few hundred other times since the world was created. so whats to say that this time its gonna suddenly end.

It's going to get much colder in the UK. The gulf stream is keeping us warm right now. That's going to stop dead. If you want to know what it's going to be like, imagine Canada. That's on the same latitude as the UK.

Thats what I understood, with the melting ice pushing its flow south. But where's the heat comming from to melt the ice? ....Climate has changed in reletively recent history,there used to be ice markets on the thames. Whether or not we believe any ones' thesis on this, the control of pollution can only be good.
