  • Literally just finished watching this movie. It was fantastic and such a great influence for the New Year.

  • Released for Christmastime 1958, "Auntie Mame" was 1959s biggest box office success. Russell was nominated for her fourth (and last) Oscar, but lost to Susan Hayward in "I Want To Live." After years of grueling fights with crippling arthritis and cancer, Russell died in 1976. It was a mean fate for a lady who had provided so much happiness and laughter. This film is the foremost example of her talent, and will never age, or fail to entertain.

  • "life is a banquet; and most poor suckers are starving to death!" mame

  • pared very well. i think i'm one of the few lesbians that like the classics ? oh well.

  • @JessicaMidnight

you're not the only one... ;D

  • Just wanted to let you know...I watch these Auntie Mame videos of yours everyday...lol. I love 'em.

  • Nicely cut together! This is one of my favourite films of all time. Who wouldn't want furniture by Yool Oulou!

I hope everyone has or had an Auntie Mame in their life at one time. Mine was my grandma, I landed with her when my rents split up. She was a widow and happy as could be about it. She showed me the world, took me someplace sunny at Xmas, and somehow taught me all the stuff a guy needs to know.

RIP Nana. Your life was a banquet, thanks for sharing part of it with me,

  • I must say, anyone who posts Rosiland Russell and obscures her voice misses half her charm.

  • I can't believe that it was required to take "Defying Gravity" form this video. On the other hand this is how empire's fall by shortsightedness, meaness and hipocrisy. It will not sour my days have it known you little miserable dust eaters.

  • Idina Menzel was in one of my classes at NYU. I wish Rosalind Russell had been. Roz rocks!!

  • Great song and film, I wish I knew someone like Auntie Mame and Roz!

    X

  • April...this is wonderful!!Thanks sooo much fro making such a beautiful tribute!

  • Beautiful job. I can't thank you enough.

  • Awesome job, I grew with that movie and your choice of music for this is a perfect match..Thanks!

  • Wow! Absolutely wonderful song to go with one of the alltime greatest motion pictures. I don't understand why AUNTIE MAME never makes the year list of AFI movies to be preserved. It's a film that literally changed my life.

  • VERY VERY Good job! Can't imagine much time this took! Perfect sync.

  • Thank you for this video. The choice of music is perfect. This is one of the most underrated movies of all times. The film still packs a punch of up-to-date social commentary which is healthy and balanced. By being a story of choices, love and family this film is eternal. Much of the idealism that once made our culture great like optimism and idealism ( later blown to full capacity in the sixties) is at the heart of the story. You music choice is perfect. Great Job! Long live Auntie Mame!!!!

  • Absolutely Adore this movie, I always have... It really is the way I look at life, and its so refreshing to see that someone loves it as much.. wouldnt we all LOVE life if we looked at life as a "Banquet".. Thank you for such outsanding work.. Im posting this on myspace.. Love It...

    Brad

  • Wow! I really like the way you put the pictures to this track. It seems to bring alive the spirit of the film and you don't need to hear the dialogue to get her character. It's very up-lifting. Thanks.

  • Rosalind Russell is really pretty! fabulous video!!

  • Excellent! Moving and inspirational.

Rosalind Russel is THE Auntie Mame!

  • I love how you match the mood of the song with the scenes you choose- in this case some of the more tender, poignant moments in the film. It works so well, bravo.

  • i love this song to death.

never seen this movie, but the video makes me want to go out & buy it. :)

  • You really haven't seen this movie? You're missing out. Seriously. My life -- without knowing that this movie existed -- would be very sad, heh.

No really, it's a great film. Auntie Mame. 1958. Rosalind Russell. It's pretty easy to find at your local Barnes & Noble, or Borders. It's here on YouTube as well, the whole film, so just do a search and you'll find it. =)

Oh yes -- and I too adore the song. I love your username too! RENT. Wicked. Idina Menzel. Love. =)

  • "You really haven't seen this movie? You're missing out. Seriously. My life -- without knowing that this movie existed -- would be very sad, heh."

that's how i feel when someone tells me they haven't seen "the king & i" or "an affair to remember" or any other deborah kerr classic. x)

anyway, i'm so asking for this movie for christmas. :D

  • AWESOME....THANK YOU!!! I have always cherished this movie and the story it tells! What a great tribute, and so very well done! BRAVO!

  • This is wonderful. Thank you for creating this.

  • Black or white, straight or gay. SO WHAT?

  • Gay = Happy. You got a problem with that?

  • True, very gay indeed, but how can you not love it?

  • This is...singly....possibly the most fantastically gay thing on the web.....wow......lovely though.

  • Happy Birthday RR - you were a lady ahead of your time!

Thanks, fantabulany, for the post - nice music and images - I love this movie!

  • Fanta- another beautiful job. Thank you. I am truly moved.

  • This is an excellant video, but where did you find this particular recording of Defying Gravity? I'd love to have it.

  • Hi Robert, it's gorgeous isn't it? I found it on iTunes. Idina Menzel recently released it as a single =)

  • Nice...

  • Another great combination...this song fits so well with the video! Great job!
