For these poor countries which those scenes bear terrible witness. How does one pay for such a system? Especially where the mean annual income is barely 1k US dollars? There is no way your going to get a state or county health dept. in the U.S. to approve a direct surface discharge onto the ground much less a stream or river from a anaroebic septic tank. Most depts. won't even approve surface irrigation on an aerobic system.

This system does not necessarily works anaerobically since the influx of grey water containing lots of dissolved oxygen is high. Anaerobic establishment is extremely slow process and extremely sensitive to oxygen as well as other variations (pH, temperature, substrate, volatile fatty acids, alkalinity). Therefore is highly unlikely that you get ANAEROBIC digestion. If you are luky you will get just anoxic conditions. Secondly, slugde removal would be extremely difficult out of this tank. Nicos
