  • i understand she wrote this song about a bad relationship, most possibly about her. You can really see and feel her emotions fuel in this video.

  • Aimee Mann is a great talent who's made bad 'biz' decisions... Fighting her label back then etc. Striking beauty and great talent nonetheless - why not a big star? The biz...

  • Love the guitar player, his hair. He looks like a girl which he is not of course, love it though.

  • great mix. i love how the guitar comes out a lot more than the studio version, especially at the chorus

  • Wow! This was a great performance! Thanks for sharing!

  • It really was a magic time for music, or maybe it was just being in my 20's. Best of luck to Aimee and the rest of the band. Some of us miss your work.

  • This was definitely a major one hit wonder from the 80's that carries a special meaning for many of the fans during this time period. I remember when the video came out on MTV. Video did kill the radio star!!

  • awesome

  • Did not know she was the bassist too. She is as talented as her husband.

  • 208bonez, the guitarist is a guy called Robert Holmes.

  • Never got to go to the Ritz, I would have dug this concert.

  • she sings great live as well as on the record; no girl in the singing business today can do that.

  • aimee man still rulllz my worlddd!!!1

  • Also the guitarist on the 6 string but more melody in that the record. Love this version live in 85. NYC.

  • Bass sorry

  • @LastTree The guitarist is a chick. And performed much better live then on record. Seemed like the more they went live and rehearsed the more she added the harmony minor and major chord to the base line and break.

    Anyways love this!

  • love how the kick the song off

  • I just think this is the perfect song performed perfectly at a great venue that once was.

  • BETTER RECOGNIZE !! Charisma! Very 'Real' talent.

  • Sounds just like the record...a woman on bass singing..she was ahead of her time. I love the guitar dudes hair..it was cool to have a big do then.

  • 懐かしいね。この曲調好きでした。

  • I have to say, I think I like the guitar better in the live version than the album version.

  • Roxette is just another Aimee Man wannabe

  • @alfredex22 and her moves remind me of Sting.

  • memories.......

  • Woah! That was intense! My heart is pounding after that

  • I was there that year. They were good. I remember Aimee introduced her boyfriend to sing a couple of songs. He sucked really bad. He was totally on drugs or really wasted. What an ass!

  • super band from the 80's thank for upload

  • She was so stoked up at the end of this song...she knew it sounded great!

  • the guitarist has rad hair!

  • This song laid the roots for me liking Evanescence and We Are The Fallen 25 years ago.

  • Today's EMO can learn a thing or two about the real thing...just amazing...I was born half decade prior to this concert but I won't front like I grew up on this music (consider me a GNR, Blind Melon, etc. al disciple)...but wow, how glorious and touching and what a great live performance. Where are the mainstream bands like this today? I don't mind Katy Perry pop for fun on Z100 radio but where is the depth? Where is the heart and soul?

  • does anybody know where I can find the bass chords for this song?

  • great song, too bad they couldn't come up with more.

  • I was at the Coliseum in Daytona Beach when this hit the big screen. Simply brutally honest and breath taking.

  • so epic. I like the rock guitars in this better than the studio verison.

  • @kiyoshi85 Agreed; it's a harder song that fits the mood of the song better.

  • @kiyoshi85 100% correct. Too bad the rest of their music wasn't as guitary as this.

  • This is the best version I've ever heard of this great song.

  • Great performance and what a fascinating woman! I remember being in 7th grade and having the biggest crush on her. She isn't a conventional barbie doll type beauty, although she could easily pull that look off if she tried. But I'm glad she's different. :-) This music had stood the test of time, as I knew it would the first time I heard it.....

  • good song

    my favorit song

  • good song

    my favorit song

  • I like when she check the bass amp jajaja...such a great song, really live music...,playback....!!!!!!!

  • Damn they were on fire! A really tight performance, and yes, their sound guys were kicking some ass that night too!

  • Their sound engineer deserves a raise, man was he on point this night.

  • AMAZING performance!

  • soooo f'ing good!!!

    i STILL get goose bumps

  • i was at this show

  • @leeble611 So cool tell me about it ...how was????

  • I love the way she hold's her bass guitar and her moves and singing...She so WOW....I'm in Love.

  • She's incredibly talented! I love her! It's weird to think that all the Britney Spears pop artists types consider themselves in same boat with Aimee Mann... as if! Aimee is way beyond their basic talents by far. hugs!

  • great arrangement, shows what can be done

  • I love this song and she is so beautiful! This video has better quality than the other, but does not have her talking to the audience. It's nice to see/hear Voices Carry without the stupid dope playing as her boyfriend, the one flaw of the official video.

    Thanks!

  • Her voice makes the song and the words more powerful by look on her face each time she goes to the microphone''''''''1

  • This version of this song is like a sonic boom, I'd love to have been at that place for that performance, I always liked this song but never heard it live, this woman can sing, and my is she a beauty.

  • Excelente. Gracias por el video.

  • GREAT F*CKIN PERFORMANCE, she and the band got into it.well done !!! thx for posting this gem !!!!!!

  • Yeah, pretty into this song...Amy must have been beaten by some dude...too personal....

  • I saw this tour. Til Teusday opened up for Rick Springfeild on his Tao tour. I was only fifteen but instantly fell in love with Aimee and I will always consider her one of the most lovely and beautiful women of all time

  • Whoa...Aimee is smokin' purple HOT!!

God, she was so into the song...

I love that about YouTube, access to the best live performances. On nothing but audio they're often less than impressive, but to SEE the performers brings the magic home.

And agree with the Colonel, below, that gig must have burned down the house.

  • Absolutely fantastic sound! Must have been a killer gig! And Aimee's hairstyle just rules the world! :)

  • omg better than the recording!

  • I could just look at her all day....

  • Thanks for posting this John! I love this band and song! Aimee is HOT!

  • Iam in love with Aimee

  • When beauty and talent colide...........

  • touche' .......(indeed)

  • beautiful eyes...

  • Thanks RUSH!!

  • GREAT recording! Thanks

  • this is better than the studio version

  • In the mid 90's she played at The Bottom Line. She did an In Their Own Words show, where she played unplugged and talked about what inspired them to play music. The DJ who was interviewing had to twist her arm to play Voices Carry.I guess due to all the clapping, she relented and performed it-sounded awesome with just her and an acoustic guitar.I hear that she refuses to do it now.How are you not going to acknowledge the very tune that got you into the business?

  • she's an artist. artist's evolve.

  • so damn good, this concert really should get a dvd-release, man

    thanxxx for sharing :)

  • Hey man, Thanks!!!!! great, great sound... oh man she really lives this song. This version is so far superior to the studio version!

  • I had forgotten how beautiful she was.

The MTV video never really did her looks justice. Even the "rat tail" looks good on her. =] and she can sing and play.

fyi the Carri Underwood version will make your ears bleed....

  • Where did it all go? I was in my mid 20s when this wonderful song was new. I will be 50 in November, what a drag it is getting old :(

  • I know what you mean. I turned 51 this year and listening to this brings back all the feelings and memories of 1985 when I bought their 1st LP.

I was dating a girl who look exactly like Aimee except she was a brunette. I think this song prolonged our relationship a couple more years. We disbanded the same year Til Tuesday did.

  • @soutache I will be 50 in march and I sort of wonder where did the music go?

  • @soutache I hear ya. Talk about the good old days. These guys were scheduled to open for Tom Petty in Kanas City in 85, but Aimee was sick on that date. I was so so bummed. Petty more than made up for it though.

  • Does anyone know where to get the audio of this song? It sounds so much better/rawer than the studio version? Absolutely blown away. She will be performing here in my town in two weeks. If there is any chance that she will play Voices Carry, I am going.

    Thanks

    Stroodle

  • GREAT quality. And holy shit, I have never seen her this... furious in a performance. I love the MTV Spring Break video from 1987 - the tension is just as palatable, as you can see Michael WINCE a few seconds in.

  • Nice version and quality of the sound is great. Thanks RushTrader.

  • excellent song. Just 're-dicovered' this song and now Im playing it constantly like iy was '85! The chorus just refuses to leave my head!

  • Thanks! Reminded me of the old club shows in Boston- 83, 84 ,85.Some great shows back then.

The stuff was fresh and they performed with attitude !

  • One-hit, but oh, that Aimee was a TKO.

  • Great sound on this video, thanks for posting iT!

  • WOW!! I just got tears in my eyes watching this. I always loved this song (yeah, I'm old enough to remember it when it was new), but I never thought of them as a "live" band and frankly I didn't think they even played their own instruments. I WAS WRONG! I'm glad I found this live recording from this time period. Aimee's pain of what she had written about is so clear, and they are all first rate musicians and sounded great live. Many bands can't pull that off. Love it!

  • A+ makes me feel old though.

  • Nice clarity.. Thanks.

  • Great sound quality for a kick ass song. Aimee Mann rocks!

  • Just awesome!
