  • Ever since the 2nd grade, my dad has been showing me Eric Johnson songs. I regret nothing. One of the most underrated, most amazing guitarists to ever walk this planet.

  • i hate people who only know cliffs of dover it's so not fair

  • @TheRahatluk That's actually how I started: from Guitar Hero. Then I thought, "why the hell haven't I listed to any of his other music?" So I did, and WOW!!! I that Carlos Santana was the only one that could play the guitar beautifully, until I heard EJ. Man!

  • eric.....one of the best........I enjoy

  • I'm certain that Eric Johnson has goals that he would still like to accomplish. Our opinion probably doesn't matter to him. He is a Master - possibly only the Masters know what they themselves need to be working on at the moment.

  • NOW THATS WHAT I CALL MUSIC

  • 2 peoples Crazy

  • It's not weird that I'm fourteen and obsessed with Eric Johnson... is it? ♥

  • sherry ruke this is for you....... hope you would like it

  • Eric also picks great musicians to play with him too....how could you NOT want to play this stuff with him?

  • this is a different version than the one i have

  • This is a masterpiece

  • Best song he ever wrote if you ask me.

  • @ZomBLord he didnt write it unfortunatly. i mean, he did all the guitar parts obviously and the solos, but his bass player wrote this song i believe.

  • That solo at 2:53 is IMPOSSIBLE. I cannot comprehend how he was able to play this. Usually, lightning fast solos utilize sweep picking, tapping, or speed picking at 3 notes per string. Yet it does not sound like he is doing any of these things here. He manages to play three notes on one string, followed by one note on the next string, three notes on the following string, and so on. And he manages to do it really fast. I just don't get how he does it.

  • @rumblefishism From what i hear, he's picking everynote with his pick.

Because his pick is not really stiff and does not have much attack, which gives his fast picking a fluid kinda sound rather than those fast picking of e.g john petrucci, paul gilbert which has a clear attack on each note...

    correct me if im wrong.

Im quite certain hes picking every note on that solo at 2:53

  • @rumblefishism

Descending and ascending minor pentatonic runs have always been Eric's forte.....The tube driver helps with note seperation...Its the way the overdrive tracks with his amps and of course gobs of talent...EJ nearly killed himself working on the whole record...I know him pretty well...He will do things over and over and over. When he is in a zone his hands become light and on cruise control.thats the key to your point...Its achieved only with completely relaxed hands and pulloffs

  • okeh..i have listened to 3 of his songs and just went ahead and downloaded his whole discography

  • imo, some of his best, if not his best, playing and tone are on this album. just listen to the playing here. note for note clean even when playing fast. very fluid sounding, never choppy or sloppy and doesnt sound like hes trying to show off.

  • Its funny how the one song he got on guitar hero has millions of views. But in actuality, the people that listen to all of his fantastic are still few. Hopefully he gets the recognition he deserves before he dies.

  • @acaash

Recognition? He won a Grammy for Ah Via Musicom the same year Danny Gatton's 88 Elmira Street album was nominated. That's some serious recognition, IMO.

  • @grEzyRyd3r

Dude, I judge someone's popularity by radio time. If you've made the radio, then you've made it big. I've heard Satch on the radio, I've even heard Vai, but never Johnson. B

Regardless, I didn't know he was so successful, thanks for sharing that. I appreciate you posting the awesome vid as well. Thanks!

  • @acaash I know what you mean.. despite his success, prior to GH3 no one I knew had any idea who he was.

  • Cliffs of dover had more radio time than all the others mentioned combined...it still gets airplay 20 years later...Satch's summer song was played with moderate success and Steve's tracks are generally too long for corporate radio far exceeding the 3.5 to 4min bracket...EJ's pavillion was also played quite a bit on radio...All great guys and guitarists:)

  • @grEzyRyd3r Don't fret too much about that guy. He thinks that youtube determines the popularity of a guitarist or a band. And to some extent they do, but guys like Johnson, Vaughn, Vai, etc were all around long before youtube was even a thought.

  • @acaash this man is an icon, he is just settling into his genre like any other artist that has been here for awhile. Saw him w/ Satch. He never seems to age still looks the same and plays even better

  • I agree man, its just that he is an icon to guitar players only, not an icon to music itself.

  • @acaash haha and the funny thing is you can download this song for gh6 :P so more people will know this one also from GH..

but theres nothing wrong with that, be happy that "a videogame" made these songs more populair again...

i dont listen to songs on youtube if i never heard them.

so thanks to "videogames" i learned to know about more songs of the band/artist/composer...

its a good for more understanding and sympathy for them.

  • @acaash I agree, before we all die next year....Dec 21 2012

  • @acaash lol i listen to him now only cause i played cliffs of dover in guitar hero

  • @acaash I was just thinking the same thing, he is truly a master of guitar and the thing that sums it up is that you couldn't mistake him with anyone else

  • Yah mann så det ordenlig syg weeeeeeeeekend ;o))

  • I have tried to play this for years and have not come close. His hands are so strong to be able to able that lightning fast. Is it that much practice or genetic? I mean some of those parts are really, REALLY fast. I laugh when mimicking my hands trying to play at this speed. Mr. Johnson is very lucky indeed.

  • It'd be great if the Camel's Night Out G3 performance (the one in the G3 CD) was filmed too... because there is another selection of tunes in the DVD. It's equally impressive as the studio one... and we are talking about guitar 7th heaven here.

Apart from that, it seems to me that his best years were from the beginning of the 90's to the first years of 2000... He cared more about his phrasing and tone back then I think... Of course this doesn't mean that now he doesn't... :)

  • good thing about eric johnson is he can do all this insane stuff live..

  • HOLY SHIT IM 1°FAN :D

  • OMG NICE

  • dude thanx for postin this, the man is off the scale. first seen the austin texas dvd a few yrs ago and it floored me-still reelin

  • eccellente!

  • can anyone tell me what scales does he use in Camel??

    Thankss

  • Same ones he always uses. Pentatonic and major.

  • my fave guitarist!!!

  • Watch at 4:02. He looks like he's not even trying!

  • no no no... at 2:37. thats freakin insane!

  • I'm currently learning this song.

It's so amazing, even though there are a lot of hard parts I never get tired of playing it.

  • Same here, I can play the main riff

  • When Ej dies (probably a LONG ways away), I'll bet he'll have a throne right next to god in heaven.

  • yeah i doubt that, im pretty sure ej is invincible and the chances of him dieing are pretty slim

  • it depends if he made a deal with Satan for this power or not that will depend because Satan on the cover of this album pretending to be an angel of goodness is the prince of this world and he also was minister of music in heaven. Everyone knows he is the who can create a virtuoso instantly but the price is eternity with him in the lake.

  • sounds like satan gets the short end of the stick.

  • I voted in my mind listening to thousand upon thousands of insturmental solo songs that Camel's Night Out solo isgreatest ever. It's like listening to conversation. 3:13 is a bomb falling and scattering across the ground.

  • The other day I looked up " awesome" in the thesaurus and it said "Camel's Night Out" lol

  • I looked up "awesome" in the dictionary and it sad, "You ass, its Eric Johnson damn it!" So heres a tip, don't look Eric Johnson up in the dictionary because you'll get called an ass for not knowing the defintion of awesome.

  • This is the most insane song ever. EJ is the best, bar none. Sorry, that's how it is. If there is one thing Jesus fuckin' Christ and Satan can agree on, it's that there's no one better than EJ.

  • Too cool.....

  • 1 man, 100 tones , 100,000,0000 guitarists that wish they could reproduce them.

  • Great song from a great guitarist

  • Eric is the best, definitely

  • Eric Johnson is so epic.

  • he is one of the most godliest Guitarists.

  • Thanks for the comments and ratings, everybody. They are much appreciated. : )

  • fricken awesome! this should have like 1 million views!

  • gonna be on guitar hero world tour soon!!!!

  • its out now! just bought it! can't wait

  • One of the best guitarrist EVER!! It was a dream the firts time i met him.

  • Such a beautiful tone. His ability is obviously a gift from somewhere higher. Amazing!

  • I think he achieved his best tone, so far, on this album.

  • @grEzyRyd3r the first thing i thought when i first heard a few songs from venus isle was the great tone he got here

  • Ah, that sound he makes with his guitars... There's something about his songs that lets you know, "That's Eric Johnson dude," no question.

  • Amzing just amazing.

  • awsome song eric johnsons instrumentals never fail me thanks for posting this
