Fedor is still the best HW in my eyes, getting submitted by Werdum was no different to Brock getting submitted by Mir, he was just overconfident - he gave Werdum that submission.

I've watched the fight about 6 or 7 times. The reason Arlovski got KO'd was because he was doing so well and was thus so confident standing with Fedor he tried a stupid flying knee and got caught.

Rogers wasn't ranked in the top 20 when he beat Arlovski, who was not top 10 when he got KO'd. Then, when Rogers KO'd AA, he moved to something like 13 or 14. *THEN, when it was announced he would be the next opponent of Fedor, all of a sudden he was no longer ranked 13 or 14.......he was immediately moved into the top 10. Just because he would fight Fedor, without fighting another fight.
Anderson fought, Jorge Rivera, Curtis Stout, Tony Fryklund, Leben, Lutter, Irvin, Cote and Leites. None are even close to Top 10.

The point I've been making all along is that while Fedor was great, and will probably hold the greatest MMA record for many years, right now he no longer is great. What Lyoto Machida has said is extremely true: "The sport of MMA has evolved tremendously in the last two or three years - right now it Brock Lesnar is the best heavyweight in the world"
@TheHardhitter08 I'm not too sure how it has escaped the attention of all the Fedor fans just how poor, by his exceptionally high standards and especially comparing his wins over Nog and Mirko, his last two performances have been. He looked careless and sloppy, on both his feet vs AA and on the ground vs BR. It's natural at his age that he is regressing. They can't all be as good at 46 as they were at 30 years old. Based on his last 10 minutes in a cage, his skill set has definitely diminished.

Fedor is #1 on my list because what he has done recently in beating a top #5 heavyweight (at the time) in Sylvia, a top #3 heavyweight (at the time) in Arlovski, and a top #10 heavyweight (at the time) in Rogers. Don't discredit wins based on what his opponents have done after they fought him, you're just grasping for straws with arguments like that.

Just stopping by to say that even when this was posted a year ago, many of the quotes were _out dated_. A lot of the persons have since gone on record to change their nr1 fighter in the world opinion (usually A. Silva). And this was before Fedor lost to Werdum.
So I mean, these kind of quote collections really even back then were kind of silly. ADMIT IT.

@PepperDix I imagine Carwin's cardio is better than it seems but he's only gone to rd 2 once and was completely gassed so I'm assuming he has some room to grow there but Alistair said it in his most recent interview-he still has alot to prove and only has one top ten(ish) win but he's hoping for 3 fights in 2011 so we'll see what he's made of soon. Fedor is still the best HW in my eyes, getting submitted by Werdum was no different to Brock getting submitted by Mir, he was just overconfident - he gave Werdum that submission.
Its impossible for him to lose to Werdum again in my opinion.

@PepperDix well first off weigh in tops off at 265 which is what shane cuts too in order to fight, 2nd of all Alistair overeem comes in at 253 and is more than capable of fighting for more than 5 minutes...anyone fighting from the title should be able to do more than a round. thirdly barnett WAS the ufc champ and left. I agree with you on AA but sf has great up-n-comers too-cormier(olympic wrestler) and del rosario (10-0) withrogers floatin around in the potential section the dvision is solid...

Overeem is like a focused sharper Arlovski plus his glass chin is not quite as brittle. He is now in his prime both mentally & physically & (fighting @ heavywt suits him--he is huge, fast, with the knees of death. He just punked Rogers. Great video, well done. The fact that the best fighters in the world reconize Fedor Emelianenko as the best pound 4 pound fighter is what proves it. As a fighter you have a certain respect to other fighters skills and talents, those main stream "keyboardwarriors" and what not have no idea about what fighting really is. You have to be in it, you have to be it to really know it. Silva is indeed not the greatest because he don't have the fearless attitude and unbreakeable will that Fedor possesses.

Everyone has to bear in mind that Fedpr is only 6ft and 230lbs. He gives up on average 4" in height and 30lbs in each fight thats like a welterwight fighting a light heavyweight everytime. Gsp Silva only fight guys the same size.

Silva does not waste his time facing fresk-show opponents like Hong Man Choi or Zulzinho to pad out his record - he fights the best available at that time in two different weight classes. Fedor was swept on the ground by Fatty Rogers and schooled on his feet by Arlovski. He has fought nobody of note in the last half a decade.

I've watched the fight about 6 or 7 times. The reason Arlovski got KO'd was because he was doing so well and was thus so confident standing with Fedor he tried a stupid flying knee and got caught.

At the time of the fights:
Arlovski was #2 HW in the world and on a 5 fight winning streak. 3 were in the UFC. He left on a winning streak.
Sylvia was ranked #7.
Rogers (who you are not including) was ranked #8 and above Carwin at the time.
Barnett who he was ready to fight was ranked #3 at the time.
Zulu was in 2005.
If you are gonna go that far back, lets look at the stats.

Rogers wasn't ranked in the top 20 when he beat Arlovski, who was not top 10 when he got KO'd. Then, when Rogers KO'd AA, he moved to something like 13 or 14. *THEN, when it was announced he would be the next opponent of Fedor, all of a sudden he was no longer ranked 13 or 14.......he was immediately moved into the top 10. Just because he would fight Fedor, without fighting another fight.

Fedor beating Hong Man Choi just 4 fights back deserves nothing but derision. He beat a guy KO'd by a washed up 50 year old boxer. Fighting Werdum next should be laughed at. The point I've been making all along is that while Fedor was great, and will probably hold the greatest MMA record for many years, right now he no longer is great. What Lyoto Machida has said is extremely true: "The sport of MMA has evolved tremendously in the last two or three years - right now it Brock Lesnar is the best heavyweight in the world"

He looked careless and sloppy, on both his feet vs AA and on the ground vs BR. It's natural at his age that he is regressing. They can't all be as good at 46 as they were at 30 years old. Based on his last 10 minutes in a cage, his skill set has definitely diminished.

Fedor is #1 on my list because what he has done recently in beating a top #5 heavyweight (at the time) in Sylvia, a top #3 heavyweight (at the time) in Arlovski, and a top #10 heavyweight (at the time) in Rogers. Don't discredit wins based on what his opponents have done after they fought him, you're just grasping for straws with arguments like that.
