Nice, used to be on Indian television in the 80s,along with other German shows like Tele-match and a German comedy show whose name i do not remember.Back then we just had ONE state run channel LOL. TV in India now is much more advanced with more channels than one cares to remember or see.Most shows today are domestic productions .Foreign programmes are mostly USA influenced. Takes me back to my childhood when it was amongst my favorite shows and things were much simpler.

Danish TV showed all 100 episodes starring Siegfried Lowitz during the early 80s. Great great series, and the intro rocked! Man, I was 8 years old back then. The episodes after 100 with Kommisar Kress et al were not successful at all.

Here in my country (Venezuela) this show were broadcasted at end of 80's by Televen, but with the name of "Veterano en Homicidios" ("Expert in Murders", in Spanish. BTW: I never knew why this name beacuse, obviously is not the real name of the series), and also they were broadcasted "Derrick" in that time.

Der Alte is the old (male) one or more precisely "The Old Man" - that is the boss, without regard to age. Perhaps it is a generation thing but "fox" can refer to a person who is clever, cunning or can think on his feet. Rommel was the "Desert Fox" - has nothing to do (directly) with age or appearance.

I used to watch it all the time as a kid in India as well - It was titled "Old Fox" then in translation

My dad who'd spent a couple years in Germany in the seveties was a 'krimi' cinema fan - so we would watch this together in the '80's -

he would have rather seen it in the original German though - he never cared much for the translations (hehe)
