The commentary is not that bad, but is what you can hear in any coffeehouse in LA.
I knew Peckinpah a little and was with him once when he was being interviewed by some critic or other. The critic asked something along the lines of, "does the confluence of disparate characters in this scene represent the inevitable denouement that blah, blah, blah"
Sam said, "it represents great actors shooting a scene in a hurry because the light was fading."
great scene from a great movie. one particular thing i like about this scene is garretts reaction to the deaths of harris and baker. you can see in his face he now regrets the path he has chosen but it is to late for him to turn back now no matter how distasteful the task has become of bringing in billy. peckinpah ends the film brilliantly with garrett shooting his own reflection at the same time he shoots billy symbolising he was fighting against himself the whole time.
This clip has one of the most anal commentaries I've ever heard. I LOVE this movie, esp this particular scene...it's the best one of the movie. The guy who is narrating is extremely annoying...does he think he could make a movie like this? I say that those who can't do...criticize others!
who is he criticizing? It's beautiful, yes, but surely he's merely complementing. I'd say the most annoying aspect of this whole page is your childish comment.
Paulita Maxwell (do you know who that is?) was quoted as saying, "Pat Garrett was as close a friend as [Billy] had in Fort Sumner and was on friendly terms with every member of [Billy's] gang. When we saw Pat and Billy together we used to call them 'the long and short of it.'"

neo-nazi violence that adolph hitler would have loved. real pat garret and real billy the kid were...TOTAL STRANGERS!!! THEY NEVER KNEW ONE ANOTHER!!!! the real pat garret even wrote a book about how he and the kid were total strangers. read the book---then see if you still love the neo-nazi violence bum peckinpah filmed.
you commentator are as annoying as all hell. Peckinpa probably never thought about the blood and river analogy he was just filming the scene I think you are reading your own interpretation into that. Who gives a crap about the guy's hair? NOBODY - you ruined a good clip.
shut you damn commentator - we just want to watch the movie without your dipshit comments. It's just a lousy movie don't act like it's something more.
You're that obnoxious hipster sitting in the row behind me at the theater who NEVER shuts up, aren't you?

The river can also symbolize something like the river Styx, with Slim on the shore waiting for the boatman to come get him.
His wife seems to treat him like he's already dead, he's already in that place that she can't go to.

Has a hint of the JFK analysis about it. 'See the head move back and to the left'.

That commentary is awful, I like Peckinpah films, Cross of Iron, Wild Bunch are superb. He's being really anaytical over every scene!
