  • Mr Eddie's father....

  • Nilsson!

  • this makes me happy...loved this song as a kid

  • Harry Nilsson wrote and sings this song. Watch "Who is Harry Nilsson" documentary and you won't believe how much this guy influenced music. So many hits.

    Who could have known.

  • I'm looking for the opening where he carries the kid on his shoulders.

  • For 35 years I've heard of this show and I've heard of Bill Bixby but this is the first time I found out he was in that show.

  • Mistah Eddie's Foddah

  • @sanoriley hahaha...good one!

  • I'm sorry but I always hated this show. It was really well done but it it just wasn't funny or entertaining to me and I could never sympathize with the characters.

  • RIP: BILL bIXBY

  • I REALLY MISS this show!! I've just got one question. Why isn't mrfxtrade's comment getting all the thumbs-ups UnitedCorpOfAmerica got!!?? Mrfxtrade's is easily more deserving! How jaded this world has become! None of the grownups in the 60's ever thought of them as an innocent time, but compared to now--well, this situation says it all! And WHY oh why is UnitedCorpOfAmerica's comment in top comments?? Are you CRAZY?? Ludicrous!!

  • You think about AWESOM-O, you lose!

  • Please bring this back to televsion! This country really needs this! Hollywood wake up!

  • Hello Mr. Eddie's father hahahaha classic

  • I was watching this in syndication as a youngster. This theme is jogging memories of toys I had, Kaboom breakfast cereal and my family's Irish Setter.

  • the memories

  • Thumbs up if you stayed home sick from school and watched this show!

  • @smitty195 Oh the memories

  • Awesome theme and truly special show. Thanks!

  • This was a "feel good" show. Very entertaining , a joy to watch.

  • OMG those sun glasses lol

  • Thumbs up if you were expecting a Rick Roll midway through the song. XD

  • Wow, Brandon hasn't grown much.... he's still the same size.... I saw him surfing the other day.

  • hes got a huge head.

  • Rubbidabuppy??

  • This was the closest thing I had to a real father growing up, pretty sad. It made me feel good to watch this show, but at the same time it made me long for a Dad.

  • @Nootherlove1 My dad was killed in a vehicle accident just a few months before my birth......

When I had kids, I had to figure out what "being a father" meant.

There was that emptiness all through school, when other's Dads were taking them to do......... (fill in the blank)

  • @goatman069 Goatman, I am sorry for your loss at such a young age. I know that feeling of emptiness as well. What really hurt is when I would get a taste of affection, from a family friend,Uncle etc, and know what it might have been like to have a male role model at such a young age. I am sorry to report I am 47 and have never been able to overcome it. Good Luck to you.

  • takes me home...

  • Harry Nillson wrote the song...

  • I recall this very conversation on the floor of the House last time I watched C-SPAN... with about the same answer: Whoops!

  • Oh how i long for the Cold War days when 'freedom' was actually a consideration in America (if for no other reason to maintain the facade of Capitalism's superiority to Communism). Today the only consideration would be 'safety'. We have to shred the Constitution to keep you safe from terrorism & today's generation just says,"yes, sir, shred it,just keep us safe". If terrorism hadn't replaced Communism as America's big enemy, who would the enemy be today. What would the defense budget be like?CIA?

  • I was born in 65 & even as young as 5 or 6 watching this show & many more like them I knew that I was living in special time. Don't ask me how I knew, I just did. The civil rights act just ended, I remember my mom & dad being so happy. They felt so free just to go out. & being black & from the south, that was a big deal. They was some good times, not a lot of Hi-tech gadgets, kids real enjoyed being a kid. You made do with what you had. I loved being a kid in the 70's....Man, how could you not?

  • @macreal65 Very well said. I was born in '63 and love growing up in the 70's. The best decade for music by far. I still listen to the Partridge Family and love every second of it

  • @bracciole1 Yes it was, Real Good Times.

  • @bracciole1 alright! I,too was born in 63..best shows and music growing up!!!!!!!!!!

  • I loved watching this show as a kid. It really helped to make my childhood a good one. So many fun memories of watching this.

  • I remember this show when I was a kid ... it reminds me of my Dad- we were just like this!

  • A Very simple and clean tv show. We need to go back to simpler times.

  • @Peace4905

this is only tv, real life is never like we see on tv

  • Livingston should have been the one.. I always assumed he would leave a suitor to come and care for her one night...he finds out his true feelings and they stop the courtship with a marriage. Series ending was not what I wanted

  • I remember this show as a kid and loving it. Jodie Foster used to appear as Eddie's friend. This show was based on a movie. Ron Howard played Eddie. The mom died suddenly in the movie.

  • Did they ever explain what happened to Eddise's mother, or to Mr. Livingston?

  • I REMEMBER SEEING THIS AS A KID

  • I always wondered why Eddie's father just didn't marry Mrs.Livingston, the housekeeper. She was much better than any of the women he was dating! She was always so nice and good with Eddie as well, he'd have been lucky to marry her.

  • THIS was a early 70's show because in the 1960's Bill Bixby was in movies still.

  • one word...WOW! thanks for posting!

  • I'd forgotten that Harry wrote and performed the theme for this great show! It addressed so many topics and really was a great example of thought during what I call the "YES" generation. It didn't take long for things to change as the motto soon became "Just say no!" to almost everything!

  • one of harry nilsson's greatest

  • i liked the episode where a priest molested eddie on the beach and bill bixby turned into the hulk and beat the crap out of him !!

  • Eddie, don't get me angry... you wouldn't like it when I'm angry.

  • @UnitedCorpOfAmerica incredible hulk

  • What the hell does this have to do with penguins??

  • thumbs up if Bing brouth you here

  • I'm scarred for life! I just found out today (Father's Day 2011) that in TV history, the name Tom Corbett was not just a space cadet, but Eddie's father as well. Today, the name signifies the governor of Pennsylvania.

  • great song for farthers day

  • You would sorta feel a little gay after prancing around public with this song being at full blast on your iPod speakers.

  • Mr. Bixby was one of the biggest stars ever. RIP, Sir...you are sorely missed.

  • When my son would wake up for his middle of the night feeding reruns of this show were on. We would "watch" it together and I would have the best of times playing with him during this time. He was just a baby and it was so much fun. Now he is 27 years old. I want him to be a little one again. :(

  • "Vati, wenn ich mich rasiere, dann wirst du mir eine Brille kaufen?"

  • Just a touching theme and song how far we have strayed today with rap and other stupid non talent

  • Right on AirmanAustin you are a 100% right..

  • This was a wonderful show. I wish they would just put the reruns of these already greats programs instead of producing more loaded with attitudes of disrespect and apathy.

  • Yeah we've gone backwards in social skills. The only show that would sell now is a young latino mother carpooling her kids & their thug friends to do drive by shootings. That might go over big these days.

  • Big departure in respect to Men being in the Single parent role ~ bravo xo

    Thank you for this

  • I can't believe Rob and Big from the MTV reality show stole this song...ugh..

  • where can you see this? because it was on in syndicated reruns in the late 70's and early 80's and in the 1990's I met brandon cruz!

  • Glad I grew up in this era.......

  • Rob and Big got their theme from this!

  • Harry Nilsson's original title of this song was "Girlfriend", and the lyrics are almost identical to the lyrics of this theme (except for minor changes here and there). BTW - Nilsson also wrote a song called "Cuddly Toy", which was recorded by The Monkees (and sounds similar to this and "Girlfriend").

  • More rules = Less freedom? This show would would be canceled after the pilot episode in 2011. Bill Bixby would be the angst of the Nanny State Nation (ala Justin Beiber).

  • Just realize how much Eddies sounds like Charlie Brown! was my favorite show when it aird use to watch it all the time with my dad.

  • Brandon aka Joey Turner in "The Bad News Bears".......

Thumbs up if you are old enough to remember seeing this movie when it came out!

  • man its so odd haha seeing brandon cruz as a kid on tv and seeing him as a 46 year old at a show a couple years ago with dr know

  • Brandon Cruz is my Cousin !!!

  • barnaby jones! KAKOW and/or boosh

  • Beautiful memories of this show! Thanks for posting...

  • i loved this show.... major thing when u think it was all 2 parents or moms i sure miss him bill bixby

  • My dad and I had very few conversations. This show made me realize, at an early age, that a father and son could just talk about anything. I believe I have achieved that withh my son. I credit the show with me being a better father.

  • @optech92129 That's AWESOME!!

  • Classic show. Always liked each opening (and ending) when the two are together and talking about everyday things. RIP Bill Bixby.

  • Does ANYBODY else think the name "The Courtship of Eddie's Father" is a TERRIBLE name for a show? "Courtship"?? Really? How about "Two of a Kind" or "Like Father Like Son" or "Eddie and Me". Yeah Yeah, I know it was from the movie but still..... Terrible title of a movie AND a book AND a TV show.

  • @GreekGuy9999 you got to be kidding it was a wonderful title and i watched it when i was little. it's a classic story of father and son this you must not understand

  • @GreekGuy9999 The title refers to the fact that he is a SINGLE father and is COURTING single women

  • @madcanadian64

He had the best one right under his nose. Mrs. Livingston!

  • @GreekGuy9999 Maybe b/c it was about his father dating hence the usage of "COURTSHIP" along with his relationship with his son.

  • It's hilarous that Eddy sings for the Dead Kennedys now

  • used to love love love this show, i couldn't say the full title so it was alway Eddie's Father, lol

  • wow thanks for the memories!

  • This sort of reminds me of Andy Taylor talking to Opie Taylor on the Andy Griffith show.

Two great classic sitcoms "Courtship Of Eddie s Father" and "The Andy Griffith Show."

  • loved this show when I was very small

  • classic.

  • Bill Bixby was such a cool dad

  • Loved this show...thanks for posting : )

  • Comment removed

  • @misterbillylicious I am the same as you a few yrs older. And yes LIFE wow is was SO great then ............too bad we didnt know it at the time heh?

  • why do we have eggrolls? dad

  • "Daed, why are we adults still asking these same questions"??

So 'wonderful a beginning. Especially now. Grown up people should pose these questions every day when they wake up and try and solve the questions.

  • HOW MANY OF YOU REMEMBER BILL BIXBY IN HIS 70'S TV SHOW, "THE MAGICIAN"?

  • @fran9860

oohh.....I remember that show. My gosh, has it been that long ago?

Time goes by so fast. Bless Mr. Bixby....used to have a crush on him:)

  • I loved this show, and Bill Bixby. It was so sad when he passed away and at such a young age. I never hear any mention that Jodi Foster was Eddie's playmate on this show. My Favorite Martian was a great show as well. Brandon Cruz was such a little cutie pie.

  • I remember the episode where Eddie was climbing on the railings of the balcony and Mrs Livingston freaked out... and another where Corbett was dating a black woman and her son told Eddie (they were about the same age) that "he didn't have to wash", and Eddie being quite upset at that...

  • That's why i alwaays liked this show. Tom always treated Eddie like he had a brain in his head. Not like kids a treated today.

  • This is a classic TV show. It is one of the three that Bill Bixby is remembered for. The other two being "The Incredible Hulk" and "My Favorite Martian". All three are great shows.

  • I remember when I was a kid... a little one... watching this show.. remember my father... R.I.P.

  • @jamesrock66 same story it's a damn shame

  • I never could get into this show.

  • Wonderful theme song by Harry Nilsson, who had just had his first son at the time. Which of course, he abandoned and didn't see til he was an adult. If only life were like a song!

  • Bill Bixby was among the rare stars who can actually act back then!

  • So many of these TV shows from when I was a kid had terrific theme songs. Now most shows stink and they don't even have theme songs. Just more stupid commercials.

  • fuck i'm old...you suck

  • Good theme for this old and wonderful serie i remember sometimes.

  • freeblago out you're a nasty rodent

  • @FreeBlago1 you';re still on here? I reported you last time you rodent

  • fgfs

  • How ironic and sad that Bill was first separated from his young son by divorce and then a year or so later by death due to the negligence of his ex-wife, Brenda Benet. Bill Bixby was a wonderful person and this is proof that many time Dad's are the better parents and should be given custody. Also shows that divorce and death are comparable in their pain and consequences in life.

  • @MrSpringtime22 My Dad raised me and yes it WAS the best for me. (ad we watched this together too! Glad some people out there can see that fathers matter too. And yes I'm a girl.

  • Ah-childhood. I remembered every word even though I have not heard this in 30 plus years :)

  • my boyfriend speaks of this show fondly.... i myself had never heard of it until he enlightened me!!!

  • Best friend song ever...............

  • i was born in 74 and i remember this like it was yesterday.. times were so different then.. shame life has to change to the worse.. these were days of morals and simplicity.. easy days.. i feel for young people..

  • what the name off the song

    its in Big and rob

  • ba daw ba da byah

  • happy fathers day to our dad Jim Acuña,you are the besstest dad ever and the greatest. We love you so much.you are our greatest super hero dad.your so great when u go in the pool with us! and you barbiq the greastest! love, jesse, aiden, andy, anthony, albert and cousin martin..written by Aiden & Andy<3

  • OMG!!! I haven't forgotten this TV Theme song yet!!! I still do remember this Show I was so little (A kid) But I really enjoyed the whole TV Series!!! "The courtship of Eddie's father" a unforgettable and beautiful story!!!

  • RIP Bill Bixby

  • Brought to you in "Shaky-Cam" vision.

  • Bill Bixby and Brandon Cruz were awesome together on this show. So much better than this crap that's on TV today...

  • @parkman35

I agree parkman to this day I still have not found anything good to watch on TV

  • @parkman35 There is nothing with any real meaning in it todays TV line up. Oprah ?

DOC. Phil, Jon and Kate, = Mindless twaddle. And what happened to catchy theme songs dog on it. Sorry. da- da- da -da -da- da -da- da-da- da -da,whoops : )

  • @zczaldy Hey, dont forget, there's also 'Law And Order,.. ohh man, theres no shortage of THAT one anymore ( it's still being produced on network tv and is run virtualy constantly on several different syndicated channels )!!

  • @Skulldini I hear ya.

  • @parkman35 You are soooooooooooooo correct! I miss the shows we watched as young children.

  • Is this on DVD yet? I think about it from time to time but have never found it on DVD.

  • I have those sunglasses!

  • I love this! This brings tears to my eyes its so sweet. Great show, good memories! Best theme song EVER!

  • WOW!! This kind of television is so missed, and needed for the children today. I can look back at this show and feel great, but what shows do my grandchildren have to say the same when they grow older? Thanks I love and needed this memory.

  • This was my favorite show when I was a kid. I was pretty young but I'm sure I just watched it because I was so deeply in love with Bill Bixby and convinced I would marry him someday.

  • Ah, me too! I had a big crush on Bill Bixby. This show was so sweet and had so many life lessons. TV now is so bad. Everybody knows it, but nobody will produce a quality family series now. Why is that?

  • @AirmanAustin They won't do it because Hollywood is populated by godless amoral men-bashing liberals. And because of that, all we see on TV are disfunctional families with weak leading men, bitchy women and bratty, arrogant kids. That's why reality TV is so big. That's why I watch Pawn Stars and Ice Road Truckers rather than scripted TV.

  • @AirmanAustin The reason that TV doesn't produce shows like this anymore is laziness, pure and simple. They know that their target audience is made up of mindless sheep who like the sheer idiocy of all the identical "reality" shows. "snowrocket", who responded to you before me, claims he watches only reality TV rather than scripted TV - is he kidding? TV writers and executives, as well as their target audience, are lazy and don't want to use their brains.

  • A good show, with a cool theme song.

  • good harry nilsson song

  • This was a great show, all the shows back in that time were great , not like all the reality crap shows that swamp tv today.

  • This has always been a favorite of mine! Nobody I have asked has ever even heard of it, I was beginning to think it was a figment of my imagination! Thanks for posting this!

  • Anyone know if anyone sells these seasons on DVD! I have been looking for them for YEARS. They have practically every other crappy show out there on DVD.

  • You are so right about that.

  • Well said... This is one worth putting out!!!

  • Bill Bixby was a childhood idol of mine. The openings to this show were so wildly philosophical, and here was the first Dad who was both masculine and "metro" (before the term existed). If I become a Dad in my 40s, I'll be pulling from these eps from my very early childhood. Love this. Thanks for posting it.

  • I completely agree... This is a model for the ages.

  • Where in L.A. was this filmed, my guess near the Santa Monica Pier!

  • @vegas787 no.............this is the paradise cove pier in Malibu

  • 1:17 wt?

  • That's when television catered to the common household. One could sit down after dinner with a nice cold can of beer along with the wife and kids and enjoy a nice sitcom. Not in '09. You better keep the remote handy and thumb on the mute button. Better yet, the hell with the idiot box. Nothing but sex, drugs, murder and BS music.

  • Hate you WHITE pretenders you're a MAJOR ASSHOLE you constipated jerk, take an overdose of laxatives BITCH!!!!

  • i loved this show. my dad wasnt around much and i always wanted a dad just like him...

  • this show brings back a lot of good memories for me thanks for posting

  • @Derriso1 Sure as hell does...

  • I too remember this show as being LAAAME!

I f this was all that was on, it was time to go outside to play.

  • warthog333 is exactly what a purports to be a "wild pig" . This was a great show that empowered the child and allowed him to have a(many) conversations with his father that enforced their bond and allowed that child to ask questions in a loving and accepting environment. I saw the actor that played "Eddie" years later when he was an adult on a late night TV program and he had nothing but the best things to say about Bill Bixby and the show.

  • your comment means you don't know very much about how children think. the way this show was written shows how children think at this age.

  • This had to be the LAMEST show on TV. Family Affair was a close second, but this show made my skin curdle. Just sitting here typing about it makes me want to turn inside-out. HELP!

  • Your right. Courtship of Eddies father WAS the lamest!

  • Thanks Niltomega (not sure about your screen name)... I need all the support I can get: five thumbs-downs... I feel like they're ganging up on me.

  • when i was a kid, they were showing this in syndication. i didnt watch the show (STUPID!!!) but i do remember the song and opening segment. it was NEVER shown like this. but still...

  • theme sung by Harry Nillson. he did the song "everybody's talkin'" from the film "Midnight Cowboy"
