If you ever wondered what's the meaning of the theme's title (has nothing to do with the film whatsoever), here's a fun fact for you: Hans Zimmer obviously stole the beginning of the theme from his great idol Ennio Morricone. It is basically the same as the beginning of Morricone's "Deborah's theme". But he did it with some grace by naming the theme after Morricone's nickname, "Maestro", thereby giving him credits. :)
@OlliCanEat You're an idiot. Ennio Morricone is credited on the soundtrack for this movie. The rights were bought and paid for. To say he stole it is like if your neighbour asked for your permission to use your lawnmower, then someone later accused him of stealing it.
@kentrel2 I expect people to be better informed when calling other people idiots based on their comments. Ennio Morricone was credited and paid for using his pieces "Toto and Alfredo" and "Projection for two", which appear as part of the story in that movie, not for using his beginning of "Deborah's theme"
Btw I'm a huge Zimmer fan. Still it is distinctive that he stole - or rather was inspired by - the work of Morricone!
@OlliCanEat Actually, I do know what I'm talking about. There are industry rules about "Music By" credits on movie soundtrack. You have to have written a specific percentage of the original score in order to get credited for writing the score. He can't get a written credit for the use of a few notes of his score, because a) the rules don't allow it, and b) he doesn't necessarily own his own work. Also, Jack Black plays a composer and mentions Morricone IN THE FILM. What more do you want?
@kentrel2 1) My original comment was on why the piece is named "Maestro", I don't judge whether it was a good or bad thing to use a melodic phrase by Morricone and whether he was adequately credited. I actually think that Zimmer's way of "crediting" Morricone (though not having to) is quite charming.
2) You actually make my point: You can't get a credit for a few notes. That's why Morricone was credited for "Toto and Alfredo" and "Projection for two", not for the melodic phrase in "Maestro".
So beautiful song, too bad it was "wasted" on such a bad movie like the holiday. Ok..Kate Winslet and Jack Black's story is beautiful but unfortunately it's way too little about them.
I just listened to the song about 10 times straight and all I could think about was how amazingly lucky I am to be so fortunate to have my good health, my wife, my two beautiful kids and a positive future ahead. Everyone would benefit from listening to music like this, it has the ability to ignite feelings that are often overlooked.
@cinatit48 Funny how this sort of music can develop these feelings to almost everyone... Unlike you, I dont have a positive future, the love of my life dumped me a few months ago and I am still heartbroken, I am living alone now without anyone that loves me, I havent got much money... but still this music makes ME realize my happiness too. I can still walk around through the forest and feel the warm sun shining upon me... I can still enjoy little things. So you're definitely right =)
IT WAS AN AMAZING MOVIE WAH YOU TALKING ABOUT. Its one of my favorite. They just needed a better person playing miles.. Jack black totally did not look good with Kate
Another proof for Hans' epicness is the fact that this vid has absolutely no dislikes ... :)

After a few times listening to this song, it gets under your skin. If I could give a title to this song it would be - "Reminiscing the Past".

@OlliCanEat No, It's still wrong to say "he obviously stole it" when he had permission. Idiot.

Jack Black and Kate Winslet were not as cute a couple as Cameron Diaz and Jude Law, but I adore them anyway. Jack did a great job playing his role!
