Kendo has a word "交剣知愛 (Koukenchiai)." Meaning: Once you cross your sword with someone's, you will know your oppornant better and can improve yourself more. Also, you may wish to fight with him or her again. You can make friends in kendo. Forget races if you do kendo.
Literally, 交 (kou) is "cross," 剣 (ken) is "sword," 知 (chi) is "know," and 愛 (ai) is "love."
By the way, Miyazaki already hit a good kote at 0:10.
If any of you speaking of racism is practicing Kendo, you may succeed the "Ken" part of Kendo, but you have failed the "Do." E
ven if equality is lost because of cultural, political, and social influences, in Kendo we are all still connected because we are all part of the same way of life, and we are equal before the shinai.
Which part is more important is up to the individual, but for me Kendo always has been discipline of my mind and spirit more than the body.
Why remove puszekepl's comment? He just said Japan was champions 12 times before.
The fact that Korea shares the origination of the sport with Japan should be something to unite under, not compete without mercy. Japan welcome foreigners so much but shun their own cousins...quite barbaric I would think.
cuz in the begining on the left side (the wite) it saids PARK..... on the right it said something that i dont even know....n im pretty dame sure that s not korean... pluse most koreans have name that park...
ill find out later... its japanese but but they use chinese characters, so chinese ppl can read some of it....and livin in NY i know a lot of chinese...
You can always tell the Koreans apart from all the other Kendo teams, they (Korea) have White Gi and Hakama with a dark blue strip on the sides of the Hakama. the are the only team that does this.
One of the founders of the Japanese Kendo Association was Korean, I forget his name, but according to him, Kumdo is the exact same as Kendo, except the origination is disputed by both. It doesn't matter though, since both nations should share the sport. Japan advertises the sport as theirs, while Korea says it originates from Korea, but evolved in Japan. It's the same thing with lots of things, like Cherry Blossoms, East Sea, Kyokushin Karate, etc.
All of them you listed is not Korean. They are from Japan. It doesn't make any sense Kendo is Korean because one of the founder of Kendo association was Korean.
Since when we should share the sport? Kendo isn't sport, martial arts.
Obviously you're trying to detract or belittle what I'm saying. Don't be rude to me.
We share the sport because it's the right thing. We want to do the right thing, don't we? Everything I've said is true, you won't be able to detract from it. I'm not bitter and I'm not making fun of you, so don't try it with me.
I wouldn't say they aren't kendoka, but they do have a style that is different from Japanese kendo. Practicing kendo for 5 or 6 years now, Kumdo is reliant on athleticism compared to kendo, which combines that with a lot of mental and spiritual aspects. Sometimes more mental and spiritual than athletic. As much as I'd like to welcome Koreans to share in the martial art (not sport), it seems like they want to take ownership. (cont'd)
Asan, can you directly name which "founders" of kendo are of korean ancestry? As far as I know, Kendo wasn't "founded". It evolved out of a need to train samurai warriors in feudal Japan in a way that didn't maim or kill the practicioners. I do agree that they do share the martial art currently, but kumdo and kendo have different origins/history and this so-called "ownership" is still hotly contested by purists today.
@timsk In Korea there had never existed Kumdo-Kendo. Because Korea had been slave dependency of China for 1000 years long. When Chinese ambassador visited Seoul, Korean king must welcome at the gate of suburbs of Seoul, with many times bowing as kneeling on ground directly. So Korean king needed not to fight agaist China.
And Yangbang peer controled people by displaying short sword. Yangbang took the sword on his back. It means useless sword. Korean's costume was as wellas chinese costume.
@timsk During annexation by Japan, Koreans leaned Kendo in school. So after Korea could be independency, Korean kendo trainer changed to pronounce of Kendo to Korean pronuciation as Kumdo. The reason was that chinese character Kanji is 剣.This character's pronuciation is ken, but Korean pronuciation is Kum. So they pronounce Kumdo. But Korean's personality is bad, They began to insist that Kumdo originated in Korea. And they wear Japanese kendo costume. Koreans are liar.
the point is awarded if the hit is "clean" and if proper fumi komi and Kiai are incorporated. and two of the three judges raise the same coloured flag.
all of miyazaki's points were clean and nothing against him but in this video his kote's werent in good postures. for example at 2:00 when he hit "kote" he just runs toward Park with his head aimed at his stomach. This is a good video overall though
In Kendo match, if winner performs or displays his winning proudly. The winning
must be canceled by referees. Boasting after winning is forbidden in BUSHIDO.
Japanese Budo needs the atitude modestly.

Korean always wear white gi because they are not kendoka. They are doing Kumdo in Kendo match to differentiate themselves from Kendo.
