  • Just doing more math doesnt help! I have the same thing numbers get mixed you forget the steps its not easy to explain.

  • How did you get tested? I live in Florida, and i can't get any help. I was diagnosed dyslexic when I was about 8-10. Dyscalculia had yet to be named. I need someone to help me learn this or to find a state agency that will help employ people like me. i'm on unemployment and I'm terrified to find a job that requires math and to lose the job because I really, really just can't do it.

  • I'm really horrible at math. Yeah people would say just do more math practice. (I don't know if i have dyscalculia) I stayed after school taken Saturday classes summer school and guess what Im still horrible at it. I spend a lot of effort on it and its my worst subject. Now in my first semester of college its not high level math & its challenging I look at notes and most of the time idk why or how to do the problems just like high school

  • OMG.... I KNOW that feeling of freedom!! Only recently I learned of this LD.

I have always described my relationship with numbers as a sort of dyslexia, but only with numbers.

The more I read the more people I hear see the world numbers as I do.

Knowing that I'm not alone keeps making me cry. And every time I read/hear someone else's story... I think "my god, we've lived the same lives".

Lives of shame or being shamed by people who are supposed to help us.

Thank God for the growing awareness!

  • VERY Courageous video! I'm 55 and I too have Dyscalculia. NOTHING was known about it when I was in school, now through efforts like these, the word is getting out.

There MAY BE a Genetic component, so if you have children get them tested as soon as possible! My daughter has this as well. You may have to fight for your rights under the "Students With Disabilities Act", but do it, it will make a world of difference for them.

We NEED to raise awareness, so we can all succeed.

  • i hate that my husband always asks me math questions at random...and compares me to a thrid grader.

  • I have Dyscalculia too buddy, and i'm finding it so hard right now. I want to be a teacher, but can't get a grade 'C' GCSE.... i'm not even good enough to get past entry level.... I'm pissed off. I've tried everything. When i look at numbers, i can't process or think about them. I am excellent in my reading and writing skills, but numbers... ughhhhhh, i hate them.

    Thanks for the video!

  • I am in exactly the same situation. Maybe a little behind you. But I want to be a teacher and am about to begin the arduous task of trying to get my C. Even worse, what worries me is when I do pass and become a teacher, I will have to TEACH it (primary schools)....

Hang on in there, you can do it eventually with grit and determination :)

  • Your story sounds almost exactly like mine. It's hard to explain to "normal" people how information can just vanish from your mind like it was never there, even tasks that you do day in and day out.Even after 6 years I still don't remember if my wife likes cheese on her hamburgers, but she understands and is extreamly patient with my brain's problem. lol

    Thx.

  • I love checking youtube every so often for peoples vlogs about dyscalculia, I completley understand the "Do More Math" strategy - if a learning process can't be understood the first time, then using the same technique over and over won't be effective because it'll just give the same outcome as the first time.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • hate how people think that you are faking it when you don't know math.

  • Thank u :-) xx

  • Great video. Thanks for spreading the word! Come talk to other dyscalculics at the dyscalculia forum :)
