  • he was a good stalker

  • I can't help but think Half-Life 2 took a few cues from this movie.

  • masterpiece theme for a masterpiece movie

  • dont forget our innocence and vulnerability... or right you got that!

  • Play this, S.T.A.L.K.E.R OST - The Wish Granter and Rainy Mood and you'll get a pretty decent creepy experience.

  • Was this film the basis for S.T.A.L.K.E.R?

  • @calebc789 based of PIKNIK NA SKRAJU DROGI Stugackich ...........

  • @calebc789 It actually was, yes.

  • @calebc789 oh yes, most definitely. although very loosely. theres an article about it out there somewhere.

  • @calebc789 yes, the the games is loosely based on this movie. witch itself is based on the novel "roadside picnic". After the Chernobyl explotion, the people that worked in the exlution zone called themself "Stalkers" as a referance to the movie, kinda like a joke. and then it just became a term for anyone that trespasses into an area that is closed for the population.

  • I HATE ENLISH MUSIK

  • @StoneyUnderworld good! this is polish/ukranian. you are in the right spot.

  • Great Music and great movie, i hate how people fail to understand the movie. After i first saw it, i just sat on my bed for an hour staring at my wall thinking about life and other things, i love movies that can have such an impact.

  • @harry962

you're right...after i first saw tom & jerry, i just sat there thinking how fragile life is...one moment you're fine and the next moment you lay flattened on the ground with a broken piano on top

  • Did you know that hey had to take a whole move all over again, because some laboratory in Leningrad scewed developing of the film up.

  • I saw the movie, BEAUTIFUL AND GREAT MUSIC!!!

Thanks for remind me the movie!!!!

  • Check the Lost Alpha mod for Stalker - Shadow of Chernobyl. It will be closer to the movie in terms of atmosphere.

  • Gotta wonder if this movie didn't inspire the Silent Hill series at all.

  • I wish that, in the game, they had a place where, if you stood, overlooking the Zone, this music played. That would have been amazing.

Also, who are the 3 people who disliked this?

  • Did they ever release an official soundtrack?

  • @LightCaster1

    Yes, they did it.

    Google: Edward Artemiev stalker ost

  • Perhaps one of the most terrifying aspects of the "zone", is it's innate ability to expose the darkness in man's heart and cultivate it's wretched desires, allowing it to fester within the shuddering womb of their fragile minds and control their wary ambitions with casual ease. The "zone", in many regards, is a metaphysical symbol of humanity's incessant faults; as unpleasant and as corrupt as the stagnant rust that permeates the very flesh of it's snarling environment.

  • @SputNIK23D Whoa, deep.

  • @SputNIK23D Woah that's a pretty wise and rich poem you just made there...or a year ago :P

  • I find the movie reminiscent of the Zone itself. It is a mystery that shouldn't be solved, that mustn't be solved, lest it loses its meaning. It's something that has been treated with tremendous respect, evident both from the movie itself and the interviews. The closest I have ever come to a spiritual experience.

  • the film left me speechless... I can not believe that a film can be so profound and meaningful. I also read the book, Roadside Picnic, that inspired the film and I must say that I have never seen a masterpiece movie made after a masterpiece book. Although it took the theme from the book, the film depicts a whole new angle, very original. Tarkovsky is a god of cinematography.

  • this film seared my soul...there are no words

  • where can i find a recording of this?

  • epic, it has this mystery feeling about it. Spot on for the movie/novel.

  • Thanks for putting this up, wished to find it on YT after I watched the movie :)

  • a true masterpiece, best movie i`ve ever seen

  • the film I guess teachess value of weakness over strength, desiring strength brings the humanity to destruction but on the other hand complete weakness and giving up isnt a solution and they are destroyed either, main thing is to be one with the nature/ universe, understand it, be friend withg it and give up empty desires

  • this is so fucking awesome...

  • it's givin' to piece of peace...

  • I've recently played the game STALKER: shadows of Chernobyl, and being a huge fan of Tarkovsky, I saw this film way before the game. Now, I notice a large amounts of similarities of the game and movie, most notably is the music. The atmosphere the music creates is almost identical.

  • ez valami elképsztően csodálatos zene!!!!

  • Ennyi.

  • I totally agree with awanthax that Stalker's atmosphere reminds one from similiar eerie feeling found in El Espiritu de la Colmena.

  • where can u get this on region 2 dvd

  • there's something in this film that i can't put my finger on but when i saw the movie i could connect to it in a strange way..it lets you question your own self your desires..beliefs and rationality..

never had this movie experience before with any other movie..not even with any other tarkowski movie.

  • @awanthax yes i know what you mean,i felt the same way.a real philosophical journey. the only film that had as much impact, but for different reasons, was apocalypse now.

  • @bradshawvincent

i saw apocalypse now but didn't really get the same vibe ..could you suggest anyother similar movies? and this spanish movie the spirit of the beehive was somewhat similar too but for different reasons

  • @awanthax yes its difficult to think of other films like this! i take it youve seen his (tarkovsky) "solaris" and "mirror"??? both brilliant. thinking about it the film for me with the same mystery , majesty and awe for the unknown is 2001 a space odyessey.i havnt seen spirit of the beehive but will check it out...you might like "dead man" by jim jarmusch

  • @bradshawvincent

thanks dude ill check it out, dead man. yeah ive seen those movies you've mentioned 2001 is really one of a kind ..and this recent movie, contact is kinda awe inspiring as well eventhough its not on the same level as other movies that's mentioned here.

  • i know its another war film but have you seen "the thin red line"?? again its men in extreme situations but theres a philosophical interior depth to it as each soldier searches for meaning and redemption. also a film with no dialogue only grunts! jean-jacques annaud's "quest for fire" set 80,000 years ago as a primitive tribe struggle to survive and use fire.

  • @bradshawvincent

I've got thin red line on my hd right now mate still couldn't get around to watch ..think ill give it a shot tonight thanks. and thanks for other recommendations as well ..

  • "Stalker" is the Faust or Hamlet in the film history.

  • I love the movie, i got it on DVD !

  • To sergeantshroom

It's Eduard Artemyev electronic music. Tarkovskiy first in USSR used this type of sound.

  • Arkady and Boris Strugatsky + Andrei Tarkovsky = classic

  • Pure magic. As a film dictator he was inspired to put other people than his self in charge.

  • Weird question, but does anyone know what kind of flute is being played?

  • Hey someone knows where to find the full movie soundtrack?

  • So peaceful. Amazing.

  • The Zone is one of the most fascinating, intriguing and enigmatic places of Cinema, if not even the most. Wonderful music, though. Where did you get it?

  • ...next to many aspects of the sci-fi novel by the strugatsky brothers and tarkovskys movie: the composer of the soundtrack is called Edward Artemiev

  • A man writes because he is tormented, because he doubts. He needs to constantly prove to himself and the others that he's worth something.

  • when all's said and done, however, it's still a more well-crafted and clever adaptation than 90% of the moviegames out there

  • the game s.t.a.l.k.e.r is from the movie stalker but I love the game and the music is very cool.

  • The game is based on the chernobyl disaster. There are some elements from the movie like the anomalys and throiwng of the bolt to test for them. But for the most part its based on chernobyl which happend a few years after this movie. The workmen who were working on the power plant used terms from this movie like "stalker" and "the zone" which is how they are connected. The zone in this movie is all messed up due to the room that grants ones deepest desires, which the three men are looking for.

  • The Zone in the movie is never actually mentioned how or why it's as fucked up as it is. While I liked the movie, it lacked some serious substance between the previous book and the following game.

Not that it was in the book, the the level of detail and the theories put forth allow the reader to make his own conclusions.

The game, however, makes it all plain as day.

  • You fail to understand what this movie is all about: it deals mainly with faith and religion, and is not a sci-fi story as the source material by the Strugatsky brothers.

  • I am russian and have both - read book and watched film. It's very difficult to decide whether this film is better than the book, or not. I think Stalker from Strugatsky's brothers is a very good masterpiece as well... And btw they wrote many of amazing books, too bad that most of them are not translated yet.

  • Greetings from Spain;), the book can not be compared with the film because they are quite different, the film is very philosophical, metaphysical and allegory, on the contrary the book is science fiction, but it also has philosophical aspects but it is much more "physical" than the film.

For a long time I'm looking for the book in Spain, but this is completely "miss-cataloged" (?) and is impossible! to buy :(

  • You mean book in english ? Or spanish ?

Basicly Strugatsky br. were in the list of most underrated world writers. (because their books were mostly not translated to eng and othr lngs). I love their things like "Far rainbow" or "A bug in the ant hill"...

  • In spanish.

I believe many of the books of the Strugatsky brothers have been translated into Spanish, I think especially in Argentina.

I started reading Piknik na obochinie (I like the title in Russian ;) ) in a TXT file downloaded from a website and after reading the first page of the interview to Valentine Pilman I said "I need this book NOW!!!!!"

Damned capitalist publishers that have become literary culture in a consumer product of the season.

  • You should google for it. I downloaded it as a PDF, after I couldn't even find it at my local libraries.

  • You also have the same problem? I'm sorry.

Yes, I've read the book, in PDF and TXT (in my NDS whit the homebrew ReadMoreDS) but I am of those people who enjoy the feel of the paper the image or texture of the cover, the smell ... I'm addicted to books XD sometimes to finish a book my hands begin to tremble and I say "I want more of this stuff!!!" ;) (I exaggerate, of course)

  • It's based off of Roadside Picnic, so presumably it's the meteor.

  • That's not really how art works.

  • I'll just pretend that made sense as a reply to my comment

  • The game has nothing to do with Tarkovskij's movie, except for the fact that they share the same literary source. Stalker is a philosophical epic that happens to be one of the most fascinating movies ever made, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is ... well, just a game with a very shallow plot.

  • I find s.t.a.l.k.e.r. to be quite entertaining, and that you're able to roam freely is just great.

  • You mean the game, right? Know what I used to do? Sit at a campfire with 4 NPC's. just for the fun of it. Sat at the roof of a house, if only to watch the change in the weather. No other game has ever emerged me to the point of fascination that I sat in my chair and watched as the wildlife of a computer generated world unfolds before me. Ever watched a small heard of those mutated pigs? I did. They accompanied the one in the middle, that got hurt at the leg.

    Truly immersive.

  • I did that, you know the first area you are in? I just sat under the bridge with the NPC. Watched to see what he would o, every now and them a friend would come and visit him, that game was immense

  • That game made me write a dissertation about the Zone. I'll be travelling to Chernobyl shortly.

  • Such a fucking insanely hauting piece. Made me bliss out repeatedly during this film.

  • Don't forget to pack some lead underpants, you might want to have kids someday! Oh, and a Geiger-counter!

  • Don't worry, the radiation isn't that bad. I'm more worried about the people. That's a restricted zone and the authorities have the right to shoot. I'm more affraid of them than of anything else.

  • Well, some parts of the grass fields are still way over 400 Rad. Also, stay clear of the woods, those are even higher.

The authorities themselves might seem like serious business, but I'm sure if you're not behaving weird or too nice, there's nothing to worry about.

    Except for the bears.

  • 1. I'll be trying to infiltrate the command bunker below the Russian Woodpecker/Eye of Moscow. It's currently buried under tons of concrete but there might be a way in, and it most certainly has a tunnell that goes right to the station

    2. I'll be in a polish uniform with various "military" accessories like my Dedal 370 night vision

  • Oh. That kind of a trip. Yeah, that'll be highly dangerous. Does anyone know you're doing this? Don't want you to get stuck in a concrete bunker with no chance of a rescue.

  • I'm not very secretive about it if I write on youtube ;)

I'm also trying to find additional people for this. I dabble in all things paramilitary so I wouldn't get myself killed right away, but I couldn't tie a bandage to save my life.

  • Then make sure to get some Tactical Tourniquets, they can slow down the flow of blood from wounds (I'm sounding more and more like a salesman XD).

  • Why are you so obsessed with "The Zone"?

What do you want to find there?

Theres nothing more than rubble and broken lifes.

  • To be stronger in life...

  • @hakka91 No, because weakness is power, and strenght is nothing!

  • @satyrjack Power is weakness, Strength is knowledge...

  • People cry because a film has touched them on an emotional level. When people are touched on an emotional level, they are reminded of their own humanity; our strength, our vulnerability, our fears, our passion and our resolve.

  • Of course; I was asking rhetorically in response to the viewer that asked why people are so interested in the Zone, despite the "rubble and broken lives." Maybe it reminds us of impermanence and our fears as does a sad film

  • @Oskmos insightful.

  • @Oskmos Fuck off.

  • @EFFANDJEFF That's amazing man. I really need to see this movie, and someone needs to make an openworld game based on this, not Chernobyl. I mean, yeah, Chernobyl was terrible, but that game went so far off from this movie...

  • @n1b3luNg The game was actually inspired more by the book Roadside Picnic than the movie even though they share the same name.

  • @n1b3luNg It was just an inspiration

  • @n1b3luNg if you still haven't seen it, the whole thing is on google videos.

  • @EFFANDJEFF Too bad everyone in it died from cancer due to all the swimming around in toxic waste they did for this.

  • @ForcedToSignUp not everyone, but a few

  • @MrJoviun Well yeah, not everyone, but, more than a few. Not like it was on purpose though. :(

  • @EFFANDJEFF

Please shut up with that "spiritual" shit.

Your twisting words. Do you know what "humanity" means? Why post a public comment if you're the only one that knows what your own definition of that word?

  • @JevastusSelvius You've quoted me as saying "spiritual", but I don't think that I did. I haven't provided a definition of "humanity", but I do believe that I have used it in the correct context. Please tell me where you think I went wrong.

    Best regards.

  • @EFFANDJEFF I never cry, what does that mean?

  • @ferdin12 it means that your boyfriend's cock isn't big enough

  • @EFFANDJEFF cheers ill drink to that haha you are so right

  • @EFFANDJEFF Very well Said Dude!!!!!

  • maybe there is

  • where can u donwload this plz~? ;(

  • Is this the original music? Because I unserstand they added new music to the soundtrack for the DVD or something. Or was that just during the troley scene?

  • shheeeeeeit i got goose pimples in 70 degree weather ...

  • truly a masterpeace!!!

  • Watching this film for the sixth time even with its length youd feel if only it would be longer. Its just hard to leave it

  • Yes...this film defies description...an absolute masterpiece.....

  • stark and haunting film...check out the backstory on the film too...seems the poisoned setting may have shortened some of the crew's lives....

  • I don't think the zone liked its secrets being told!

  • Great

  • hey guys, i ordered this on netflex. And am looking foward to it. It seems like a truly unique film, and i'm saying that when i haven't even seen the trailer yet, lol...

But i played the game stalker, and im not expecting it to be like the game, but the game made me aware of this film...

  • In a weird way that movie was the best thing ever put onto a screen. It has meaning I dont think I will ever understand.

  • This film changed my life...or at least it came closest to it of them all. Beautiful.

  • but only a little bit... ^^

  • and the oscar goes to..

  • probably the most meaningful movie ever made

  • it is at least the best russian film ever made. and mayhap, if i got the meaning right, it's even THE best film ever made.

    greets from germany

  • Greatest film of all time.

  • The only way I can descirbe how I feel when I watch this movie is STALKER makes me feel disconnected from "it" all..

  • Best movie ever made.

  • Is this movie dubbed or Will i need to read subtitles..Either way il watch it

  • subtitled.

  • this fits in:

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow Of Tjernobyl

  • chernobyl***

  • Andrei Tarkovsky was a genius director, and Stalker is a true masterpiece of cinema - it's a real travesty that it is not included in more top 50 or even 100 movies ever made. This movie is perhaps his best, and is deeply psychological, philosophical and spiritual. Haunting, poetic and utterly beautiful - every scene you could just freeze and stare at like a painting.

  • yes you are right.many of my friends do not like it because they were thinking that it would be like the videogame but for me it was simply amazing.

  • I saw the film three years ago. I can't just forget it. The music is just so sad and yet so peaceful...I hate to describe it...you just can't describe the emotion....pure aesthetics!

  • Does anyone know where i can download this?

  • can you write here link where we can download that music????please

  • BLACK DOG...

  • this is a beautyful

  • best theme ever!

  • If only there were more great composers like Eduard Artemyev.

  • The music is truly magical, just as one of the characters of the movie says:

"Althought it is just an assembly of mechanical sounds, it wakes something up in us, gives rise to some sort of high feelings."

  • beautyful!.. i wanna know wich is the theme from closing credits of SOLARIS.. Tarkovski is awesome! THANKS!!!

  • this music make me thinking about this whole world...about the existing of human with the nature...and how he destroys it!!!

how small is the part and the meaning of a human...and how seriosly he takes his role in this tragic existing....

  • This music sends chills down my spine...

I love Stalker.. It just takes you to another place you know nothing about..

It's more of an experience than a film.

  • Music by Eduard Artemyev. He has wrote music for Tarkovsky's movies.

  • I wish I could find the soundtrack to this...

  • this movie is true art.

  • Stalker is not a film, but a prophecy. A present for each one of us all...

  • I really don't think most people would get this movie. I personally think it is a beautiful peace of art, even though I don't think I've drawn all of the meaning from it yet.

  • i saw this flick in the early 90s and the vicious strangeness of it moved me intensely, changed the very course of my life...well nigh impossible to overrate it..eeeeeeeerie
