  • Uncle Mo's been off the track now since his disappointing Wood Memorial run back in April, and he's had health issues for much of that time that he was away from racing. So I'm not sure I'd get real overly excited about Mo's prospects of winning the King's Bishop Stakes at Saratoga. Frankly, it won't surprise me if it takes him a couple of races to find his best stride again? But you can just tell from watching Mo as a juvenile that the horse has real talent on conventional dirt. TJMO.

  • Dialed In swoops late to beat Uncle Mo on the line...

    I had a dream...

  • Uncle Mo is impressive, I just hope he's not another Quality Road

  • IMO, the most dominate looking B.C. Juvenile winner I've seen since Arazi thrashed the 1991 B.C. Juvenile field.

  • @GBeret83

  • Future 2011 Kentucky Derby Champ

  • only other horse to win kentucky derby is Mildly Offensive, u heard it here first

  • i havent been this excited about the kentucky derby and triple crown since afleet alex

  • He is trained by Pletcher and ridden by Johnny V. Not my fav guys to win the big race and the lone Derby win by for TP was basically gift wrapped to him and dropped on his lap because of weather and the jock. Uncle Mo has a running-style I am not crazy about for the Derby with Indian Charlie as the sire. To me, I think he will be another Quality Road or War Pass. But hey, the older division sucks now w/ Zen, Blame, QR, and Lucky all gone. This leaves it open for the youngsters to take charge.

  • @sweetepnoy

Theres Twirling Candy.... and Twirling Candy xD Your right I think it will be a year for 3 yo.s, just like it was in 09'...

  • @queenluciaa Agree that it may be the year for 3yos. Disagree on Candy, he isn't tops in the older division until he beats horses outside his age group. Both his losses were against older. IMO Tackleberry gets my vote as best older in the country right now, he's just so criminally underrated. But the way its been shaping up, the older division is such a scramble, I agree with you the 3yos, colts and fillies, are set up for a huge year.

  • Uncle Mo is easily champion 2 yr old, but can he hold in next year? Arazi did a very simmilar thing here.

  • The Juvenile has never produced much in the way of triple Crown winners, my

favorite is still Arazi, but I don't think he had the best training for it, t hat was my

    biggest disappointment.

  • Read that Uncle Mo will run twice before the KY Derby, and the first might be the Tampa Bay Derby! I'm a bit surprised as I thought they'd opt for a Grade race rather than a G3 like the Tampa Bay Derby, but whatever floats their boat. I just hope he comes back well and on form

  • Mo left Boys of Toscanova in his dust when John set down on him and opened him up. They were practically side by side at the top of the stretch. To Bad Frankel won't run over here in any Triple Crown race. Instead he will opt for the Euro Triple. But maybe they will meet in Dubai next spring.

  • As of now the horse doesn't need to improve much to win the derby, and preakness. The big undoing to this horse could be the belmont and the trainer. This horse is blessed with god given speed. Pletcher should start old school training to get the extra needed stamina IMO

  • I always say don't say a horse can't do something until he proves he can't. Remember Seattle Slew had plenty of questions about his pedigree. Uncle Mo to date has been impressive. He has long relaxed strides, proven to rate, comes home like a freight train, and according to trainer is hardlt blowing after races.

  • Jemster- uncle month does have some stamina on his dam side. Arch and Dixieland band... While Indian Charlie may not be knowen for distance runners, he does have a few. Also Indian Charlie himself was able to get 9F, so his pedigree isn't as bad as some say

  • Amazing Race! I think I smell a possible Triple Crown Winner....

  • @Zenyatta20 haha ikr???

  • What about his dam? Is her pedigree built for stamina? Remember, the sire is only 50% of the genetics behind the horse. With the right combination ANYTHING can happen. Then again, he could turn out like Quality Road. It'll be interesting to find out how it goes.

  • There's no question that Uncle Mo loves the dirt, and is a hugely talented juvenile. He's destroyed all 3 field's he's faced to date. The issue with Uncle Mo is his pedigree. It doesn't suggest, being the son of Indian Charlie, that he will have the stamina required to get 1-1/4, 1-3/16, and 1-1/2 in the Triple Crown races. Indian Charlie isn't known for siring great middle distance horses. I fear we may have another Quality Road with Uncle Mo? Great at 8-9f. But beyond that? Questionable? JMO

  • Bernardini sired off-spring are very hot commodities these days for buyers in Europe and America. He has three 2yr.old's, Biondetti, Theysken's Theory, and Treasury Devil all racing really well on turf in Europe. Biondetti and Theysken's Theory both raced at the Breeders Cup. In the Juvenile, and Juvenile Fillies. Both trying conventional dirt for the first time. Biondetti won the G1 Premio Gran Criterium in Italy prior to this race. Making him the first G1 winner ever. Sired by Bernardini.

  • @GBeret83 - Bernardini has a beautiful 2 year old out of Vertingineaux(Zenyatta's Dam). She will be another large stunning Bay Filly.

  • @HorsesForeva95,

Take Control will be a 4 year old come Jan. 1., 2011. He is a 3 year old this year. So unfortunately, no Triple Crown duel for him and Uncle Mo.

  • Beginning of 1:28 = power engine in action.

  • wow

  • very impressive and he obviously likes Churchill but their is still 6 mo. to

the derby and as we have seen so many times trying to keep precocious

colts sound and in form up to the 1st Saturday in May can be a tough task.

Hopefully Mo is the exception as he looks like a future star!

  • Niiiiiiice.

  • This horse is the real deal. Hes has enough speed to get whatever spot he wants and he moves so effortlessly. Hes the best 2yold since Arazi and Spectacular Bid. Unless he gets hurt this horse will be undefeated going into the gate on Derby Day.

  • The thing that's impressive about Uncle Month is he is the best closer in the race also! His 3 starts he has ran his last quarter in 23 and change, 24 flat, then 23 and change. Judging by the way he closes 9F won't be an issue. Pletcher might be his undoing if he doesn't train stamina into him. However his turn of foot is devestating!

  • This is definitely one to watch for the Derby. Even though he is by Indian Charlie, he does have Northern Dancer and Danzig on his dam's side. Maybe those two will show up come Derby day. Plus, he showed in this race that he can win without having to be the leader. So he's showing some flexibility.

  • This race may very well have two future BC winners in it. If Uncle Month keeps progressing he is going to be a beast and could win the BCC. BAT and Jaycito are very high quality too. Bat could win the mile, or sprint next year. Jaycito could win BCC if Mo can't get distance.

  • Next year I hope to see Frankel, Uncle Mo, and Jaycito in the Derby.

  • @Nucleo85Torino oh i don't think frankel will enter i think he'll go for the english classiics

  • @Nucleo85Torino, I'd say you'll likely see Uncle Mo and Jaycito. But it's doubtful you'll see Frankel come calling to the U.S. unless Henry Cecil sends him over for next year's Breeders Cup event? I do think it's possible that Godolphin might send Biondetti back over to the U.S. for the Kentucky Derby though. He ran a solid 4th in the Juvenile. First lifetime start on dirt. And he's by Bernardini. Frankel will be in the English 2000 Guineas and Epsom Derby most likely.

  • Uncle Mo is the Next Quality Road.

  • @Nucleo85Torino, I was thinking the very same thing myself. That Uncle Mo may very well indeed turn out to be much like Quality Road. Very dominate at 8 to 9 furlongs. But "iffy" at best beyond that. Given his pedigree being out of Indian Charlie. Who hasn't produced great middle distance horses. But has sired some really sprinters and milers.

  • I'm not trying to get my cart in front of my horse or anything here. But Uncle Mo really is the most impressive juvenile colt on conventional dirt that I've seen in a very long time. The only thing that worries me for this colt is not his ability. But his distance limitations. He's by Indian Charlie, who's best offspring have been sprinters. Even if Uncle Mo can get the 1-1/4 for the Ky. Derby, and the 1-3/16 for the Preakness? I fear the 1-1/2 of the Belmont would be his undoing. JMO.

  • @GBeret83

Distance is always an issue for these Juvenile's, and we'll see if Pletcher will start to prepare this young colt for 10 furlongs. However, I'm worried that this colt is peaking at the wrong time. I'm more inclined to see how Rogue Romance (placed 4th in this race and his first time on dirt) develops over the next few months. Distance is not an issue for this guy, and I liked his dad (Smarty Jones) very much.

  • He is by far my favorite horse for next year's derby thus far...What a great horse!

  • Obviously Trevor Denman is a terrible announcer, thats why he replaced Tom Durkin!

  • @Spinner90029 Trevor is the best by far! I also like CD's announcer. I believe his name is Marc Johnson.

  • God this caller knows nothing but "away they go to a perfect start...' (even when it's not). The worst caller in racing

  • @hem1934 how is this not a perfect start?

  • @Glamwolf That's not the point. The point is that he says the same thing everytime.

  • @hem1934 I don't think so. I've heard different calls when a horse rears or something. ..Besides, he is very knowledgeable about what is going on in the race. Being a former jockey he has a better understanding so I think he is one of the best race callers out there. Also, when you actually pay attention to other race callers, they tend to start off with the same thing nearly every time.

  • -sigh- My pick Jaycito went a little... er, wild in this race. He's just green though. Still my pick in everything next year.

  • Amazing colt. Love him! I hope he is the future winner of the Kentucky Derby.
