  • HOLY SHIT THANKS!!

  • Thank you so much!! I understand it now!! :)

  • How in the world do you make things so clear?!

  • thank you! i'm studying for mid-terms and this helps a lot!

  • saved my life. thankyou

  • thank you!!!

  • i love you

  • Why do you flip the inequality sign on the third problem?

  • hey can you make some more complicated inequality videos?

  • Your choice on problems is most excellent, never fails to meet my expectations. Keep doing what your doing!

  • Thank you, so much. This seemed so confusing in my online textbook. Your technique made it much easier to get both coordinates.

  • Exxon ad move! I can't see

  • mwaaaaaaah :* <3

  • Thank you so much. You really helped me do my homework. I understand you more than my math teacher. I just trying to study for these test so thank yoiu

  • you are simply .... AWESOME :D

  • Thanx for the help! I found that to be too complicated but the video helped alot!

  • ive been watching your vids for my algebra 2 chapter test tommorow your a life saver really

  • Dude I have been watching your videos all week so I can prepare for the CLEP exam. Great stuff!

  • @pedrodogg69 good luck!

  • OMG THANK YOU CUZ I HAVE A PROFESSOR WITH A ACCENT AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HE SAYS.

  • @bknisha120 i have an accent as well.

  • good video. very helpful and clearly explained xD

  • Thanks P. I wrote the notes and passed them on to the kids. Loved the lesson. Amazing to see even young teachers today are not interested in the lessons, are not qualified, and motivating kids. I always tell mine, get the learning and the training in...regardless of the situation. May God Bless you with peace, health and prosperity!

  • i didnt really get the lst fraction problem but this turtorial really helped thanks

  • you saved me! why is trig so hard

  • that's why youtube helps more people graduate than the actual teacher thanx brah

  • @MrStein10 any time ; )

  • how would u solve |x-2 | over 3 reater than 2?

  • How do you solve absolute value inequalities that are equal to 0?

    like | 8+4b | > or = 0

  • wait-my bad. I set up the equation wrong; not according to the rule. thankyouuu(:

  • at 7:28 you flipped the sign and made 4x-2 < or = 5/6. what was the reasoning behind this? you didn't divide by a negative

& thanks for this video. I actually get it (:

  • Your vids are awesome! I get it so much now! thankss

  • holy shit your a lefty what the hell

  • big help thanks

  • thank you this helped alot

  • ur waaay betta than my math123 book :)

  • It's been a while since i've watched your videos but thank youu sooooo much. Reallly helped ;__;

  • @tickled41 i am always here when you need me : )

  • @patrickJMT Thank you so much for this video, we have a quiz every other day on my honors al2 class, this is my first time watching your video, normally I watch khan academy, but now I know I can rely on you to get help, thanks man

  • Like an inequality such as this |2/x -3| < 5.

  • How about absolute inequalities with x in the quotient? And also what happens to the signs of inequalities when you raise each side of compound inequalities by -1? What's the simplest way to solve these inequalities when you have x in the quotient?

  • Wouldnt it be no solution?

  • This is very clearly explained and helpful. Thank you.

  • @greenranger8100 my pleasure!

  • what happened if it is not larger or equal to..? :)

    |5-2x| > 1

  • thanks so much..

  • I have an equation that I have attempted to solve but the fraction keeps stumping me.... can you help... abs((1/4)x + 2) less than or eual to -3

  • @cro2013 no solution..

  • fuck mormons

  • BEST YOUTUBE VIDEO !!

  • Comment removed

  • thank u for the lessons i always find them very helpful!!

  • When writing intervals how does one know when to use [ ), or (]??

  • Will x always be greater than the #??

  • I didn't know you could solve two inequalities at the same time! Thanks so much, watching a bunch of your videos as review for my algebra final today. :D

  • Thank you, it's a very good lesson. Just slow down a little, you're going too fast.

  • Thank you :) This just majorily helped me on my final exam study guide.

  • i noticed that whenever i watch someone do math stuff on youtube

theyre always left handed....thats something haha

but thank you so much for your help =D

  • I wish I could write that nice with my left hand!

  • what if A < B and B is a negative number? would the -B become a positive B since B is a negative number? say B = -1. -B < A < B then -(-1) < A < -1... how can a number be bigger than 1 and less than -1?

  • if we were both in jail, i would protect you in the showers! <3

  • THank you!!!

  • What your ass needs to do is come down here and teach us in person instead of our stupid math teacher :D How do YOU remember all this?

  • Comment removed

  • I wanna stab the person who invented Algebra and Calculus in the neck.

  • @mrNHC Me too

  • @mrNHC your being kind, i would definately think of some sick type of 3 day torture first

  • Absolute Value: My worst Enemy xD ...I Always try to avoid it in tests and now I have a whole Unit to do =(

Un saludo desde Argentina..I always learn with your videos.

    Keep up the great work.

  • Yo da bombs!!! You just saved my life thanks you sooo much

  • question: im confuesed !! what is its not a fraction how would i do the less then equal too equation

  • Thank you, keep it up.

  • Quick question. When the inequality has a less than or equal to sign, do i only change it to a compound inequality? Why not a regular inequality like when its greater then?

  • Quick clarification (w.r.t. Case 3) :

    Is "A ≥ B or A ≤ -B" the same as "-B ≥ A ≥ B"

... or would it be wrong to say that?

On a side note, your videos are genuinely amazing. Thank you so much.

  • tnx.it was so helpful

  • The problem with a lot of math teachers is that they talk in a monotone voice. Another problem I have is that they explain it as they would understand it/ What I like about you is that you explain it in a very 'guy off the street' way, meaning you give the big picture and then don't get bogged down in the details and you explain it in a human way .

  • thanks that helped alot

  • This rocks!!! Thanks for the clear explanation and help.

  • what about inequalities involving absolute value and quadratic?

  • THANKK YOUUU SO MUCH !

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA! That was funny!!!

    -JackY♫♪

  • your a lot of fuckin help!!!! thanks!

  • In my opinion those who can do and those who can't teach... then we have people like this who can do and still teach and make the would a better place because of it. Thanks for your awesome videos.

  • thank you so much. you're helping me pass my exams

  • You have saved me from failing my midterm... for that I thank you!

  • ok but i thought tht u had to distribute a neagtive thru out lets say |x -1| = 5 so on the right handside wouldnt u have to set it up like this -1(x-1)=5 an then get x+1 = 5an then solve? its hard to show wht im tryn to say on the computer i hope u can figure it out ty

  • thanks this was a big help to me during final exam week

  • I have to mastrubate first.

I'll get right down on your videos.

    Repeat.

I'll be a genius in no time!

  • how do you know when to accept your solution? ex. with restrictions and what not..

  • so for -4|2x-5| +8 > -12

you only distribute the -4 to 2x and -5 inside the | | correct?

  • Patrick, do you have any examples with two absolute variables

    such as

    |Absolute| > |Absolute|

I don't know what to do in order to solve them. Please can you message me if you reply to this comment, I could really do with your help!

  • @Jaaybbee even though I'm not patrick, I would like to answer!

    in that case, you use 4 different cases, meaning; + +, + -, - +, - -.

  • It's very helpful especially for the 8th grader. Thank you very much! Teacher Patrick..

  • don't the bars mean everything in them is positive??

  • @6216661 no, that is not what it means

  • @6216661 It's a number's distance from zero. Distance is always positive.

  • @6216661 basically, its how far away the number is on a number line to zero like -3 and +3 would both be 3 in absolute value

  • @6216661 the bars just mean how far that number is from zero. ex: |-56| = 56 because it cant be a a negative number from zero. or lets say it this way...Your house is zero. your school is 2 miles away. your school cant be -2 miles away. hope this helped :)

  • @6216661 It may seem that absolute value means everything is positive at first, but absolute value actually denotes the distance between a number and it's negative. So consider a number line, and -6 and 6 are points on that line. The distance between -6 and 6 is 6, so 6 is your absolute value.

  • @6216661 No it means it can be POSITIVE and NEGATIVE

  • what if A < B and B is a negative number? would the -B become a positive B since B is a negative number? say B = -1. -B < A < B then -(-1) < A < -1... how can a number be bigger than 1 and less than -1?

  • @6216661 |-4| = 4 or |4| = 4.

  • Oh, Thanks, this is a new topic in eight grade, so i wanted to make sure i understood the teacher ;)

  • it help me

  • the 7 people will fail in school

  • thx man u really helped me with my 8th grade math

  • Screw my math teacher, I'm watching these videos now :)

  • you should do something with one absolute value strictly greater or strictly less than 0

  • math isnt about learning or practice its about understanding

  • this helped me so much thank you so much for your help.

  • Great job..thanks a bunch

  • Thank you so much for this video :) please come to my school and replace my teacher?

  • thanks for the video i am in the 8th grade and have a test tomorrow this video helped a lot.

  • im in algebra 2 and i suck when it comes to inequalities and on top of that i have to take a test on it on monday..so this really helped me understand inequalities better and not only that im studying at the same!!!..if it wasnt for videos like this i dont think i would be have made it to the 11th grade!!!

  • @cenalover386 it means A squared minus B squared = (A - B) x (A + B)

  • Can somebody explain when to use

    (A^2 - B^2) == (A - B)(A + B)

    My professor is using that.

  • @latsteen08 I think there is no solution, as the absolute value of the equation is -3 and the absolute value of a number is always positive.

  • Your videos are helping me get through first year calculus in university. I finally understand inequalities. Thank you so much! Don't stop what you're doing!

  • I hate when they cover it up as they're writing it and telling you out loud. Damn you left handed teachers!

  • Someone should clone him and put him in math classes throughout the country. You are the epitome of what a math teacher should be. Bravo!

  • why is math so hard :( i feel like im retarded lol i understand this but.. it seems the more you learn the harder it gets later.. ahhh tooo much to learn! :( and numbers.. i suck at that !

  • i have a question, why do you put -15 before the 2x? can you explain to me please.... the answer i got was x<6 ...am talking about the question number 2

  • Thank you so much!! You made me life easier!

  • thanks! i have a test tomorrow, this helps.

  • I LOVE MATH EVEN ITS HARD =P

  • U rock thank you!!!!

  • Thanks dude your a life saver!

  • what about if it was

    y> /x/

  • Why is some guy on you tube much better than all teachers I had for the past decade or so?

  • a really good instructor. really got me going. thank you so much

  • a really good instructor.

  • thanks man it made a lot more sense seeing the problems being done, gotta quiz tomorrow and teacher didn't really explain it that well...keep making vids.

    -Thanks again :)

  • thank u so much

  • nice video. only one that helped

  • thanks so much man, that really helps..but how would we go about expressing the answer in interval notation? Do you have a video where you go over interval notation and domain/ range?

  • wow you make more sense then my stuped algebra 2 teacher thank you very much for being smart and posting this xD

  • How would you solve X^3-X^2-X-2>0? PLEASE HELP!

  • @Sandra872971 lol thats not an absolute value equation, but you need to solve like normal equation, ie. put 2 to other side, make it X^3 - X^2 - X > -2, and then take aaway the smallest number of X.

  • @mvenom101 thanks I meant to post it on a different video

  • Thank you so much! this helped me a lot:)

  • ughh i hate geometry and math i try to learn but its just 2 much for me!

  • @wweuniversewwe it takes much practice and thought! do not be discouraged

  • Thank you this really helps you rock...I just coundn't get it so thanks =]

  • i have noticed that many people who are good in math are left- handed =))

thanks a lot by the way ^_____________^ continue the great work :D

  • THANK YOU!

  • Our teacher took 1h too explain us this and still nobody understood.

I tried reading the book, still no good.

    I watched a 8:23 min video and finally I get it :D

    Thank you.

  • @stopnope well, maybe by the time you got to my video, you had been thoroughly prepared : )

  • @stopnope thought it was just me lol ... 2 hrs class and still confuse but just finally got it after watching this video

  • I thought you had to switch the symbol if there was a negative number in the answer. guess I was wrong. thanks for clearing that up for me.

  • can u become my personal tutor. i need to pass College Math

  • what if there was a given x if greater than/equal to 0 and -x lesser than 0..

  • DUDE u ROCK....ur teaching is very short but very detailed....i usually hear 40 min presentation and i dont understand a thing he says

  • I'm so confused-my paper says "solve l4/x-1l is less than or equal to 2 (use a sign graph)." What is a sign graph? O.o does it mean sine graph? Either way I'm still completely clueless as to how they want me to solve the problem.

I got -1 is less than or equal to x is less than or equal to 3.

Can you help me figure out what exactly the directions mean? And is the answer correct? Please answer quickly. Thanks.

  • thank you so much, i knew all of this stuff earlier but now my mind is blank for finals haha, i am on a patrickjmt binge this week

  • tytytyty

  • nice work! I did this last yr at uni, but I had forgotten it and needed it for the radius of convergence from the ratio test of a series. Very helpful

  • Hi I have a question I have probably already learned this but I don't understand how you got to distributing two. I understand how you did 6 divided by 3 is 2 but how did you get to distributing it??

  • how do i solve a problem in case 2 like

    |6s| = 72

s=12, yea i know, but how do you get the other way

  • Clear, simple and comprehensive. Bravo! Subscribing! You Da Man!

  • How would I solve it if it were a problem like 9-4 | 3m+3 | = -75? I think I have an idea on how to do it, but I'm not so sure at the same time...

  • I don't get it at all!!! And also what I don't get is what were exactly gonna use it for later on in life! Mr. Bradley said that Deon might need it for when he's flipping burgers at bk and wants to see how many he's made! Haha

  • thankyu i needed this to practice for taks and you helped me,thanyu so much.(:

  • @redvac18 my pleasure. i personally think the taks is pretty lame

  • @dyllon182 yes, i always ride in limos with lots of beautiful women that hold my calculator and push my buttons. they also give me champagne and feed me grapes while fanning me with big palm fronds.

ALL who teach live like this. teachers make so much in usa, it is amazing. why doesn't everyone do this i wonder?

  • @patrickJMT ...well if you really don't bro I hope someday you will be a billionaire because you are amazing. my instructor would make me feel dumb and what he could not do in 4 months because he SUCKED! I learn from you in under 9 min. Wish you the best.

  • @wcbombers21 ha thanks : ) i agree, not all who teach should be doing so! but teaching is a hard profession. i love teaching but have absolutely no desire to teach middle/high school or college for that matter (which is why i quit). kudos to those brave souls who do; it is much harder than most think.

  • You are an amazing teacher! You explain things much better than my Instructor, and you don't assume we know why you did something but instead remind us why you did it!!! Thank you for helping me get through my College Algebra class!

  • the 3rd one kinda confusing...

  • excellent video!!! thank you very much!!!

  • hey need help on this one:

    |x + 2| ≥ 4

im having trouble because i need to first express the solution, then interval notation and then set bulider notation.

Can anybody help? it would be much appreciated.

  • easy

    make a number line

plot -2, find the two point which are 4 units away from two on each side, which are 2 and -6. then colour the circles in and make bold arrows outwards cos its greater than four.

then write that out in words

  • Here are the steps first break the problem |x + 2| ≥ 4 to - 4<(greater than equal to) x + 2 ≥ 4. Then you subtract 2 to both sides then you should get -6<(greater than equal to) x ≥ 2. and you are finish =]

  • |x - -2| >/= 4

Youu juts add and subtract four by the 4 and u graph it

it will include -6 and 2

  • ok thank you guys. so, let me get this straight - if you have |x|= -4

(for example), that wouldn't be true, there'd be no solution? But, if you had x (without the brackets)= -4 that would be a solution, right? O.o

  • what would u do when its like |-14+5|+16= 8, idk what to do with the +16

  • Okay but sometimes I come across problems that have an answer of " X = -4", or something like that. how does that work?

  • @Violetta21TV

If u ever have an equation where |x|=a negative number, then that equation has no solutions

  • i subscribed to u lol. thx for the vids that show how to do this lol. but i'm just wondering, my math teacher said that "X" (or any variable) can never equal a negative number, since it's absolute value, so that always makes "X" positive? please help im confused !
