Thanks Super3boy. Your tuts are always such a help to me. I tried to follow another tut somewhere else, but it was too old, and there was a step skipped. I got exactly what I wanted here.
i couldnt get this to work, i wanted to use a rectangular black and white map for my landscape. Won't the plane auto-extrude or do i have to make sure myself the plane is the correct shape?
Nice tut man, I do use your tutorials as a reference for whenever i'm modeling new content for the source engine now so good job! My two cents though, is that maybe you could also use the sculpt tool with a flattened out sphere to also create terrains?
vipics productions is recruiting we are currently making a rpg game an need some moddlers and character animations requirments age 12-13 must post one of your works and must have msn messenger
one thing i would suggest to others is try to grab actual hightmaps. this will give it a more natural look. , Another things is dont do this with buildings. it does not work the same
your tutorial are very helpful.thanks for doing a good job.I've started with blender few days ago without any previous knowledge of 3d modeling, but now I know that this is exactly what I wanted to find.thanks for help and inspiration.
Okay now you are advertising your twitter way to long and your website is not even advertized just cut it down to about 10 seconds with annotations and keep it happy! thanks :)
your tutorials are for serious noobs who have an awesome computer. I mean, subsurfing a plane when you already subdivided it ups the poly count. None of use are going to be using the unreal engine anytime soon... It's good for rendering, but not for games.
man, this dude does the best tutes for blender that i've seen. he is very easy to understand and they make a great ref for "how to" with parts of your own projects. his tutes show you what you can do.
perhaps you could just use a quarter of the map at a time for game scenes. then just scale it up. i imagine the map here would be enormous once you made it big enough to be mountains. make it smaller then scale it up, you'll save from 3 puarters to 5 sixths of ya poly count. hope that helps.
Good job. You also can create that cloud image with Blender. Create a plane, add cloud texture, align camera to it with light near camera, render as PNG, then F3 to save. Now use that PNG render as your texture image.
I hear that you're going to be making some tutorials on the game engine. Can't wait for them, being a game programmer who started out in blender and is now using C++ and Irrlicht. Keep up the good work :)
super3boy just a question, what type of games are you going to be teaching in the next series of tutorials?? is it going to be a specific genre or are you going to cover a good few in the tuts, also glad to see you back man, been waiting on some new tutorials.
I would love if you actually explain what the buttons you press do. You do it most of the time but sometimes i get a: "you have to press these three"... Why?
what program do you use for filming the screen?

Which tutorial shows that?

i don't it has to be, PNG just keeps the alpha channel, which is useful for other things. Its quality is generally better then JPG.
