  • I love this and all songs that remind of when I was stationed in Germany from early April 1982 to late May of 1984, brings back old memories, unless you were ever stationed there you could,nt understnad

  • gotta love everything about rush... their wardrobe was as progressive as their music XD

  • i love this :D

  • You 'kids' are makin me beam!

  • I am 29, just got out of a shitty 8-year relationship. I have been listening to this song since i was a little kid. I finally understand. Thanks, Rush. Best band ever.

  • I HATE being affiliated with some people in my generation...

Couldnt listen to this song in class cause it was deemed too differant than the mainstream, so I turned it up to full blast and said 'haters gonna hate'

  • So underrated this album is and is probably one of the very best rush album's so far.

  • 7 People are North Korean scrubs!

  • RED ALERT.......RED ALERT

  • How can anyone dislike this song?!!

  • @THECARS7879 Oh I know I love them I want to be careful saying this but I a telling you there is something about those Canadian Rock bands. Tragically hip,April Wine, Bryan Adams. Its cold up there they have nothing better to do than make music. They are awesome!!!!

  • I always used to imagine when they showed closeups of the band's faces at the start of the video they just showed Geddy's nose.

  • If Jesus was a drummer, he still wouldn't be able to beat Neil Peart. If Jesus were a bass player/vocalist, he still wouldn't beat Geddy Lee. And last, but sooo not least, if Jesus could play guitar, he couldn't beat Alex Lifeson. (believe it or not, what alex plays on guitar is REALLY REALLY hard, and is usually underrated)

  • This video would have been better if Dr Strangelove rolled behind Peart at some point.

  • does anyone know why they put that static sound in near the beginning?

  • @tunaleg Why did Alex play his guitar? Why Did Neil use drums? Why is Geddy Playing his base that specific way?

  • @SuperBuckalew Why can't you spell "bass"? Why are you such a jerk? Why do you have no friends?

  • @tunaleg Oh my bad, sometimes I accidentally type the wrong bass/base. You didn't capitalize your sentence, so I guess we're even. I'm sorry I was such a jerk, but I am fed up with stupid questions. I don't think there was any specific reason why a certain white noise sound was put in a song, maybe it just sounded cool.

  • Back in 1984 we were all afraid of nuclear war as kids. Today, we're more afraid of losing or finding a job.

  • 3:13 that solo is 10-times better than a caffeine high

  • THECARS7879 i hope rush doesnt get in have you seen the people in there its a joke

  • I. Want. That. Bass.

  • @seikomaruhana i will sell you mine

  • @seikomaruhana It's a steinberger

  • 7 people rode a missile into oblivion.

  • Put your votes in today guys, the list of bands missing out of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame is to long

  • Very good video but Geddy's dancing is funny (horribly funny, LOL)

  • @domdom111111 JAJAJAJA IS TRUE

  • When I saw this video the first few times in the early 80s when I was a kid I was always worrying that Alex would get his tie tangled up in his guitar strings and wacky antics would ensue.

  • Cold world paranoia at its very, very best.

  • In the US it was abbreivited as DEW.

  • d 21 drone

  • Canadians have no say in the fate of the World. How did they come up with a missle to make this video, anyway. The U.N. should look into this.

  • Love Rush!

  • @dwilmer7 Neil Peart is the best drummer since stars started igniting actually never mind the last 5000 years.

  • @mysticlawlotus terry bozzio

  • But I see the tip of the Iceberg and I worry about u. Intuition years ahead.

  • In spite of the cheesy haircuts and instruments the Eighties are still my favourite period concerning most things Rush. Hold Your Fire remains their only crime during that great era and that was because of poor production values - not for a lack of great material.

  • Neil Peart is the most awesomest drummer in the last 5000 years.

  • @dwilmer7 keith moon would like a word with you

  • @dwilmer7 His solo in YYZ is masterful...

  • @dwilmer7 Who was the awesomest before that???

  • @dwilmer7

Oh, I dunno about that. There was Grog back in the Stone Age, that guy played a mean hollow log...

  • Crossing the DEW Line

  • I saw these guys 30yrs ago in 1981 in LA for the Moving Pictures concert!! It was Fantastic!!! I wish i could relive it though!!! Long Live RUSH!!! and Neal Peart is the best drummer on Earth!!! the things he does are amazing!!

  • fkn Neil Peart I mean Ive been drumming 15 years but come on where do u get this ridiculous????

  • So the Sex Pistols are good enough for the ROCK AND ROLL hall of fame...but Rush isn't? Jann Wenner is either deaf to the sounds of greatness or has something against our Great White neighbors...

  • @IscariotXVI Hell, Jann Wenner thinks MADONNA is good enough for the R&RHOF, but Rush isn't. He is a fracken idiot, imho.

  • @riff5fki there are about 12 , 14 bands that belong in there right now , im sure you know who they are. Yes has been skipped over for past 16 years, not to mention Deep Purple and Blue Oyster cult. The CARS, Styx, Kansas, BTO, ELO, i can go on and on

  • @THECARS7879 Tis' a joke, the RRHOF. It's about money, not talent.

  • @riff5fki yeah i know, but I know Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Police, Blondie , and the Doors are in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame

  • @THECARS7879 They're deserving, but remember, they're also incredibly popular. Rush is popular, but not to the extent of them.

  • @IscariotXVI Rush has two strikes against them. They're a progressive/hard rock band, two genres that the R&RHOF people HATE! Now if they were a punk/alternative band, they would have gone in on the first ballot.

  • the Theme Song to the Korean DMZ!

  • the little boy in this song is Julian Lee,Geddy's Son...

  • Dublin next up, waiting so long 12th may here we come

  • i don't need any "Monroe Docterine" to live. i am. i know.

  • I am so glad the Canadien coul dflate Dads ego like that.

The Canadiens should have invoked the Monroe Docterine and go after the USSSER but they were too good for that.

  • Please annex Canada, please, please.

  • who are the 7 dumb asses who dis like good music?

  • This song always reminded me a lot of the Police

  • @thedizzies1 Me too....

  • @thedizzies1 mmmmmmmmm... in the intro, but the bridges and the chorus are very progressive.

  • This is one of favorite songs by RUSH

  • Notice they're playing on a table surrounded by chairs. I'd be so jazzed if I showed up at some lame-ass meeting only to see Rush play.

  • Panmunjom!!! The joint security area Republic of Korea/Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea!

  • i will never understand how friday has 50,000,000 views and this doesnt even have 200,000

  • @Megamusicman693 The younger generations spend more time on You tube than older generations. :)Old people are either going out to dinner, watching tv, lol or just out out. I think every kid between 10-25 with a pc watched Friday. :)

  • @Megamusicman693 Modern teenagers have no idea what music is, plan and simple.

  • @REGIFISHY My 14 year old sister is absolutely crazy about RUSH, like unhealthily obsessed with them. All though I agree that most modern teenagers have terrible taste in "music", (If it can even be called music.) there are some kindred spirit amongst the majority.

  • @lxa9466 Hahaha! It's a teenage girl thing! :P I absolutely love Rush and I JUST turned 15 like a week ago! :-) They're one of the best bands I've heard in my entire life :-)

  • @xFadexToxNeonx3 Good ta hear lassie ! There IS hope !! Peace Ye`all from Scotland ! PS ! Seen them live on Saturday for the 1st time! I know they dont play Britain as often as Europe and USA but how did i leave it that long...!?! Anyway i`m Still buzzing from it !.....Neils Kit just has to be seen/heard !! Im away tae shoot Haggis for breakfast and practice ma Bagpipes !! Peace Ye`all !

  • @auto4union saw them at glasgow awell, was amazing wis it no? :P

  • @thetreesify Hell Yeah ! `twas indeed amazing ! Shame about the acoustics in the SECC ! Ye cant beat a good old concert hall like the Edinburgh Playhouse or Glasgow apollo for good tight sound ! Bricks and mortar is always gonna sound better than thick black curtainy stuff ! Still was totally blown away though ! Are you from soapdodge city yerself or did you travel ? Peace Ye`all !!

  • @auto4union nah im from ayrshire 30 miles south, yes many of my rush obsessed family members have told me about how brilliant they were at the glasgow apollo, would have been brilliant to see them there, too bad it's cineworld now XD ahh but heres hoping they shall return for there clockwork angels tour :) peace

  • @xFadexToxNeonx3 that makes me feel good about today's young people! You might also like Yes, OMD, Genesis, and Queen!

  • @LDP060681 I've been getting into Styx and Queen lately...I've heard of Genesis and Yes too and they're pretty good...never heard of OMD though...

  • @xFadexToxNeonx3 that's cool! I admire and respect you for discovering 'old' music :-) Looking back at the younger kids they seem to be listening to shit music and fixated on porn and drugs, so it's killer some of you guys are pointing in the right direction. If you're up for it, mail me on here and we can gmail about music.

  • @LDP060681 Why thank you! It's mainly because of technology within video games along with input from my parents. I can handle some of today's music too but I always go back to the other music like rock and what not. Plus, I am a musician as well so I have some music diversity from there as well. Send me a message! Alway up for a chat! :)

  • @LDP060681 Interesting. Good recommendations, all, but OMD is nothing like the rest of the ones you mention. They are very synth. They fit the sound of the 80s beautifully, but do not transcend the decades as much as Rush and the others you mentioned.

  • @djkerton I dunno about that... to me good music transcends. Style isn't the main thing. If it's The Smiths or Salt N' Pepa, pretty much every type of music bloomed in the 80s. Rush included. Just discovered a band called Icehouse who are really good too!

  • @Megamusicman693 friday has so many views because it's comedy gold. You can't watch without laughing. And the comments are funny too!

  • This song is one of the best songs they have. I love the guitar riffs between 305 and 315

  • Damn, Neil just rips on that set!!

  • @RonBurg92

it's definitely one of the cookie cutter stadiums... so it very well might be the old shea stadium

  • 7 people are jealous of gettys" incredible talent

  • Fellow baseball fans, help me out...is that Shea Stadium at 3:47?

  • @RonBurg92 I believe so...

  • oh gosh take me with you i was born in 67.. the 90's and beyond so suck

  • seven people need to eat glass with ice cream!

  • RUSH!!! A cult band which I"m a proud member there of... Rock on RUSH

  • excellent song. 500 btw.

  • 9th best Rush song ever!

  • is the boy ok??

  • been listening to rush for 35 years, love them still, unique and perfectly formed.

  • Geddy was swoonin' n' goovin'

  • wow... thats some great parenting

  • RUSH---"Distant Early Warning"

  • I play in a band for 14 yrs, same guys. The only time my guitarist ever gets serious is when we play Rush. Dude leaves this planet and we have to rope him back in and bring him back to reality.

  • You can really hear the influence of the Police on this song. The guitar reminds me of 'Walking on the moon'.

  • After noticing a few questions regarding the kid in the video, wondering where & who he is, i thought i should respond. It's my cousin, Alexander Lant, and he starred in a couple of music videos at the time as a child. His younger brother also appeared in Santa Claus The Movie at about the same time Distant Early Warning was filmed in London. Alex is now 33, happily married, with children, living in the south of England. Hope this clears things up a bit. The video is still as fun as ever :)

  • Thumbs up for great music made by ancient electric drum sets.

  • Geddy Lee looks like Jo from the Facts of Life HA HA,Rush Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hahaha, you gotta love Geddy's 80's suit, bass, and especially the hair. Alex Lifeson's hair is pretty Badass too. Hahaha.

  • god i love this song

  • Where are that kids parents?

  • 2:58 nice hooters.

  • @RCAvhstape HaHa! I clicked on your comment just to see the "hooters". Nice.

  • @RCAvhstape I was looking for "hooters" not owls!! lol

  • absolute.. ABSOLUTELY!!

  • oh que genial cancion

  • neil has a rats tail

  • neil has rats tail

  • greatest band ever

  • very star wars at the beginning :)

  • I wonder where that kid is today?

  • @jennifermariekramer Hey jackoff....NEIL writes the lyrics.

  • @maxbud1962 Thank you for being so incredibly polite.

  • @maxbud1962 Also, I never said that Geddy wrote the lyrics. I"m well aware of the fact that Neil writes about 96% of the lyrics. I was just commenting on the lyrics in the context of the video.

  • @jennifermariekramer NEIL writes all the lyrics...pay attention

  • @maxbud1962 neil writes but geddy approves them. he will not sing anything he doesn't like or is comfortable with.

  • @maxbud1962 Nope, not all of them, just the vast majority. Alex wrote Lessons and I Think I'm Going Bald, Geddy wrote Tears, Best I Can, Cinderella Man, Different Strings, all of the lyrics on the first album, Alex and Geddy cowrote In The End, Chemistry was written by all three, and of course Peter Talbot and Pye Dubois have contributed to a few of Neil's songs.

    Pay attention. ;)

  • @jennifermariekramer Wrong. Not Geddy's son...long standing rumor was blown out of the water about 10 years ago with Geddy on Rockline when he answered the question and said no it was not him.

  • @vaportrails44 I guess I had bad info. Thanks for the correction.

  • just get caress of steel there best 40 mins

  • This was the song that got me into Rush, thanks to heavy rotation on MTV during the summer of 1984. I was 9.

  • @TheVariantstrain , I was 30 during the Summer of 1984.. I Loved it then, and I Love it now..

  • The band's reaction to Reagan/Thatcher/ Disco's rise. Maybe they never said it, but it's pretty obvious. Plus the Canadian attitude of playing second fiddle to USA. In all, it worked wonderfully !!

  • oh my God!!! they launched that poor little kid on the missle, but forgot to strap him down for safety. the inhuman sonofabitches!

  • @dbeard451 No kidding! I didn't notice that. I thought it was against the law to strap someone on 50 megaton h-bomb without a safety seat. Rush should have gotten fined for. Perhaps more people would survive the nuclear explosions if strapped to these missles.

  • The 7 people whom disliked this got raped by the missile in this video!

  • @epicjose LOL

  • Video was made back when we were all scared-during the cold war.

  • What kind of bass is that?

  • @dodgerzone94 Steinberger

  • INCOMPLETE!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!

  • no special effects were used in this video

  • I like how it says "Red Alert" in GREEN font.

  • seriously...3 not-so-attractive guys proving that REAL TALENT MATTERS.

  • Love the reggae sounding intro!

  • @dodgerzone94 I never thought of it that way ever since I bought the record when it came out, but it is a Reggae drum part, isn't it? Nice observation!

  • Crazy time signature stuff going on in this song. I love this band so much! Just bought myself a Geddy Lee Fender Jazz Bass a few days ago. It's amazing. Now if I could just play as good as him.... pshh... YEAH RIGHT!

  • @LongviewCovers13 If you get half as good as Geddy, you'll be swimming in cash.

  • rare bass :S

  • i love his bass!

  • Great little tribute to Dr. Strangelove.

  • As a child of the 60's, who grew up with the idea of the "D.E.W" lines: which does mean "Distant Early Warning" (U.S.governmental defense systems set up in Alaska through to the US) protecting us from Communists via airbases and aircraft/warcraft; this song is so beautiful in it's power and emotive riffs: Love it!

  • i'm 17 and this is my favorite song!

  • I am 58 years old and bought 2112 the week it came out. Ruined a nice set of BIC Venturi Formula 6 speakers that were the bomb back then playing that album...have been a fan ever since. Rush never sold out to anyone, played their brand of music, take-them-or-leave-them attitude that I admire considerably. Lifeson is probably THE most under-rated guitarist on the planet. He is remarkable and proves that less is more sometimes. They have so much fun when they're playing. Greatness defined.

  • @clyde8her at age 60, i m retiring with RUSH... picking up their artifact CDs for my sons at flea markets and yard sales; think RUSH will end up on a game like Rock Band? NAAHhhh

  • @pylgrym actually rush is in rock band 1,2 and going to be in 3 and the story for the next guitar hero is based off of 2112 :)

  • @pylgrym there are like 10 rush songs in rock band, sirrah

  • @clyde8her Lifeson is just as competent and capable as EVH in my opinion. He just falls through the cracks because Rush has the best rhythm section of all time

  • @bluesboy25000 I do agree Blues but they are on different planes somehow. Eddie is a rippin' guitarist who "is the band" in many ways. Lifeson does not mind at all sharing the limelight with arguably the best bassist and drummer in the business. He "blends in", for lack of a better description, and provides what is needed to make the song work. EVH is great. Saw him in about '81 and he can rip like no other. Saw RUSH about '86 maybe and the whole band blew me away. That's difference IMO

  • @clyde8her Haha clyde you sound just like my dad. Fully agree though, Mr. Lifeson definitely doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Three of the world's most talented musicians all in one band.

  • @clyde8her but as a result of flying under the radar they're unheard of in Asia & Australia. It's just stupid.

  • @jo366 I didn't realize that...sorry for the Asians and Aussies...they're missing quite a bit...

  • @clyde8her I AGREE COMPLETELY LONG LIVE RUSH!

  • @clyde8her

awesome comment man. long live Rush.

  • @The61769 I speaks da troot and so does you !! I guess what I like about them the most is the fun they have while playing...watch any of their live stuff, expecially the concert in Brazil and it's awesome to see them having a ball at what they do...I should be so lucky. Long live Rush is right.

  • @clyde8her Rock on clyde. I`am 42 and ditto. I also named my daughter ( who is now 22) Desiree Nicole RUSH Boehm

  • @yeatsfeats I wish I had thought of that...My daughter got named after her aunt and grandmother...no imagination on my part. Rock on Rush...

  • @clyde8her i agree about Lifeson, but he's only underated cuz so many people love the drumming of Peart... and bass of Geddy too.......probably theeee most talented band instrument by instrument.... 3 of the best at their craft.

  • @clyde8her Spoken like a true Rush fan *Salutes*. Im 39 and was a huge Metallica fan as a teen, long hair the whole bit. And man did I think Lars was the drummer of all drummers.

I was with my buddy headbangin and his older bro came in laughrd at us threw me Grace Under Pressure, 2112 and Permanent waves and told me to get a life.

I threw in my cassettes and well the rest is history. I was saved and to this day I have never forgotten that moment.

  • @clyde8her I hear ya man, the very first concert I went to was 2112, wow, I still claim it was the best concert ever and Ive seen lots, although Metallica black was pretty good

  • @stingraynick I hear ya back...Saw Metallica at the time when "And Justice for All" came out...unbelievable...not sure if my ears ring from Rush or Metallica...doesn't matter as long as they ring !!

  • @clyde8her Not selling out is probably why their not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame. They had the power(and still do) from sales to tell them to stick-it. 80,000,000 albums sold and not worthy of induction? Tells aperson what the Hall of Shame is all about! Rock on Brother!!

  • @meigsman59 I agree 100%...no problem, they are a Hall of Fame all of their own...I'd like to have a nickel for every group that has patterned their style, song or attitude after RUSH. Not being in the hall of fame is like Babe Ruth not being in the being in the Baseball Hall of Fame. I think the nominating panel is probably washed up never-very-greats anyway so what do you respect...Huey Lewis is probably the Chairman of the Committee.

  • @meigsman59 No problem. Just proves to me that Huey Lewis is probably the Chairperson of the Nominating Committee...His career was stellar wasn't it?

  • @clyde8her perfectly stated my friend. this song did it all for me back in 1984. They have been my favorite band ever since and will do so till my last breath. Simply magical!

  • Every day I wish I could go back to the 70's and 80's,

Realy music, real musicians, good bands like Rush

No one in my year understand these guys, or have heard of them, shame =/

  • @Herow93

Ya, but back then they had asbestos trees and dodo farms.

Plus, Rush was formed in the 60's. Back THEN they had asbestos-filled-dodo farms.

    Seriously though, Rush Rules Rock.
