yes they did use the swastika flag at the time cos it was their national emblem but the soldiers werent nazi themselves. only the SS were true nazis, particularly the waffen SS crack troopers of the german army. The colour aspect really brings the images to life. B/W photo's always seem very "old" and somewhat disconnected with the modern world, but with colour it's like you can appreciate that this all happend not too long ago.
russians and germans were both getting orders such as "don't take prisoners", in western front prisoner kills were mostly conducted if other side did same, to get equal, as far as i know from veteran writings.

I've seen photos of frozen bodies of Soviets being stacked up by other POWs in a wagon. Even one where the Germans fashioned a "ball" of dead Russians that rolls around.
So what, the Russians did the same to the Germans later on. Over a million captured Germans became slave labourers for the Russians and were sent to Siberia. Only a few thousand ever returned home. Some estimates put the deaths of German soldiers in French, British and American POW camps at nearly 1.5 million. They were thrown into pens, exposed to the elements, poorly fed and basically left to rot in the mud and their own exrement. We never read about that in history class do we?

I hope you realize that Germany was a single nation which took on the world, and damn near won too. England were a bunch of pussies and called upon the Canadians for help, then the US used Pearl Harbor as an excuse to join in...two years after it started...Just like in the first world war! So, basicly, the only Allies who I find deserve the least bit of respect and dignity are the Canadians. They came to help their friend..England would've burnt in hell if it weren't for the Canadians.

It's misleading to say they "voted" him in. He gamed the system with a plurality of votes, forced the President to name him Chancellor, then immediately set about destroying all the opposition parties. The majority of Germany opposed the Nazis in 1933. After that they were very effective in linking their own ideology with German nationalism, which was much more palatable.

I agree with grenzman. Prior to Hitler becoming Chancellor, the Nazis never polled more than 37.4% of the votes. Thus proving that the majority of the voting public were AGAINST them. In the last General Election held prior to 1945, and whilst Hitler was Chancellor they still could not record a majority (43.9%). If the German people were, as a whole, guilty of anything, it was in not taking the NSDAP seriously enough, until it was too late.

The treaty of Versailles was also partly responisble for the rise of Hitler - it declared, that only Germany was the only aggressor on beginning World War I. The german people felt humiliated by this treaty and Hitler used this circumstance to get into power!!!

U only were considered a Nazi if u supported Hitler by wearing the swastika. Altho if u were a member of the nazi party then u really did represent Hitler's wing. Some German naval and army officers were members of the Nazi party all except the Luftwaffe who decided not to have nazi sympathizers within their ranks since they were more chivalric. Also not to mention, that not all German soldiers or officers and generals such as Rommel were nazis.

yes they did use the swastika flag at the time cos it was their national emblem but the soldiers werent nazi themselves. only the SS were true nazis, particularly the waffen SS crack troopers of the german army. Although there was a sparked up rivalry between the SS and the Wermacht. Word was that every planned operation was under going, the SS would lead the attack but they wouldnt coordinate nor cooperate with the regular soldiers.

not really, altho they do think themselves that they're above the normal rank of the german officer. E.g An SS Lieutenant giving out orders to an normal Lieutenant it just wouldnt work cos they're both lieutenants except the difference is that the normal german lieutenant is a gentleman whilst the SS Lieutenant is a power hungry bogan that has no mercy. that's why they despised each other.

No, the Germans did not treat POWs well, at least the Russian ones on the Eastern Front. It's well known millions of Russian POWs perished in German camps there. I've seen photos of frozen bodies of Soviets being stacked up by other POWs in a wagon. Even one where the Germans fashioned a "ball" of dead Russians that rolls around.

So what, the Russians did the same to the Germans later on. Over a million captured Germans became slave labourers for the Russians and were sent to Siberia. Only a few thousand ever returned home. Some estimates put the deaths of German soldiers in French, British and American POW camps at nearly 1.5 million. They were thrown into pens, exposed to the elements, poorly fed and basically left to rot in the mud and their own exrement. We never read about that in history class do we?

The saddest thing is that many of the common line soldiers in the German army were brave men who did NOT know of the "final solution" or about anything that was happening in the hands of power. They would find out later and be treated as horrible people, when the truth was being hidden from them by their own leaders. Hitler did his men and his country a great disservice.
