By the looks of his more recent videos, he's learned to button his shirt and slow down to a more reasonable tempo.

For other Celtic musicians: the speed might have been appropriate for a 2nd or 3rd variation of the tunes. I would advise slowing down for at least the first repetition of the tune and really stressing those 1st and 3rd beats to get a good solid ground. Then it is more acceptable to speed up if one so desires.

Check out the piping of Fred Morrison to hear good use of fast tempo.

Folks who tell others what music is "supposed" to sound like know nothing about the heart of music, only the technology of it. Music is about style, and each musician takes a song and makes it his/her own.

Interestingly, I had never heard either song until this video, so having no expectations of how it was "supposed" to sound I was free to hear it pure - I loved it!

I don't have that much musical talent and i don't play an instrument but i'm very interested in listening to all different kinds of music and i would say that this guy knows truely how to play. And i'd say that's tullochgorum's problem: he is pretty good and could play the songs more slowly with much more feeling which would make sound it even better.

Dig through his posts. his music may not sound a little off at times for some, but that guy has TALENT with a big T! A lot of times, he just goes ahead and plays, not rehearsing much beforehand. he admits himself that this is a little unpolished. Listen to more of his music and see how he sounds. Of course that music could be played at a slower pace, but who knows... he might post a different rendition of it some day. just to fancy all those who prefer a slower pace.

There are a few things in life which should never be tried . Two of them are playing the Rights of Man and King of the Fairies at such speed . There may be other Irish tunes which benefit from 'speed' but not these two .

Another thing not to try is the invasion of Russia . But if you do make sure to get some buttons for the shirt and wear some warm clothing .

Get yourself some gravitas to add to your considerable skills and you too might make it to Carnegie Hall with some more bowing ;)

Just because he plays it differently than the usual school taught uptight virtuosses, you can't say it's bad. The songs are both very pleasingly played and I could listen to them for the whole day. He's just got his own way of doing it.

He's got some techniques all right. But they are not applied in the proper fashion. This is not the way to play Irish music even in a variation. Listen to some other videos. Technique with the bow does not music make. And just because someones shirt is unbuttoned doesn't make him sexy. He needs to study the genre more.

go out and buy a bunch of celtic music cd's and listen to them all the time, i grew up on that kind of music and i'm still just getting the hang of it, try to get ahold of songs and the sheet music for the ones you like, then try to see where certain performers add in their own flavor to songs and try to develop your own style, mainly, stick to it, practice, and have fun with it
