Walt Parazaider came up with the idea of a rock group with horns
James Pankow made it fly.
Listen to some of the chord structures in the horn section from some of the 60's and 70's songs and the song just wouldn't be as good as it is if the horn parts hadn't been so much a part of the counter melody.
One way that I think about is this.
Take out the vocals for some songs and the song is still complete because of the horn action that's occuring.

Great interview, Chicago was SO ahead of it's time. And Walt's solo on Colour My World is my all time favorite. Thanks for posting it!
