Hi mate, Very nice sounding AE86 you have there. How long did it take for those springs to quieten down? Ive just done a 20V swap and mine make the same high pitched noise, its so annoying! Did it take a while for the noise to stop? Thanks
haha obviously the engine is running right? yeah, you are right, since the dizzy is up front now and still being driven by the exhaust cam, it is turning backward. But that was an easy fix
this is a 20 Valve Blacktop how did you get your distributor to the front of the engine??? All these engine came FWD with the distributor on the other side what set up did you use for that conversion.
Also where did you get your Velocity Stacks from they are hot
@TransAmDrifter sometimes in motorsport ....there arent turbonetics turbocharger that produce 1500 hp.....but its usefull :) bye bro. ps . 3 valves are better that 2
The 4A-GE`s life in Group A started with the 4A-GE 16v, AE86 was a worldwide Group A 1600cc N/A class winner in Rally, Sprint, Touring etc, before the end of the 80`s, TRD built AE86-AE92 1600cc hybrid Gr.A engines (AE86 head on AE92 block with all the sick parts) for the AE86`s, I should know, my ae86 is a surviving Group A example.. TRD even made ae86/ae92 hybrids and stroked them, put them in AE86`s, which won Australian 2000cc N/A Gr.A class back in the days :)
@csgtfaught And I`m not saying you are wrong or anything, not looking for a fight at all, if you have any valid reference points to the opposite I`m just as interested in seeing :)
my first choice of car was this kind of car (AE86) back then when i was in high save up his money doing summer job..... it's hard to find and it's rare. spent my senior year and found none and so i end up wit 240sx witch is a good car....i have passion for FR RWD cars.
hi!i just want to ask if you know how and what should i buy to convert my 4ageBT to COP(coil on plugs)?b'coz i dont like to cut the wall to make room for the distributor cup.thanks!
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners do so Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree! ..
@projectD32 dont try it unless you know a lot about cars. if u want this engine in a US car get a first generation mr2, much easier to put this engine in one of those
Hey Dudes i need some help, my silvertop is having an idling problem, when the engine is cold its idle is flactuating real bad, and even if i'm running at high speed my engine would die. nice swap iam tryng to do the same on my 76 sr5 corolla te37 there selling me a motor for cheap silver top!!i was wondering about the wiring and ecu what will i need any help will be great so i know what iam doing i own a body shop so i know a bit.. thanks,.
WOuld you be able to do a sketch with head dimensions and some pictures of it as I am going to do it myself... .. I can send you my e-mail.. If this is possible it would be great. Many thanks
It's because the 20v 4AG is originally for front wheel drive Levin/Corolla, which have the distributor face towards the flywheel side. Now we turned the engine 90deg, the distributor will not clear the firewall. Some folks notched the firewall, but relocate it towards the back side of the exhaust cam(now front), and reverse the rotation order of the lead to match the firing order is a much cleaner solution.
yes, straight throttle bodys,no velocity stacks.and no airbox because we can't put it,there is no room to put it,the throttle bodys are looking at the back of the car(at the back of the engine bay, near the co-driver)and we can't put the airbox.we wanted the air box because with the airbox it will suck cold air and it's better..so we need velocity stacks now..
hello, what is best for the intake?nothing or these trumpets i see on the video?my brother has one blacktop engine on his starlet and the factorys air filter doesn't fit cause there is no room for it..
I did not fully understand your question, but if you are asking about straight throttle body with no velocity stacks? that will hurt the flow tremendously, you NEED the stacks to smooth out the flow. The length of the trumpets is the key of your powerband characteristic, but it usually dictated by your intake cam profile, timing, and compression ratio.
I'm assuming your brother still has the intake plenums over the stock velocity stacks. If it is a street car, i wouldn't bother to eliminate the intake plenum. There's few horses there but clean and cold air is better for street anyway.
i have ae86 coupe 85 gts. one problem is wont start. i use start fluid and wont last running. does work but wont last running if you know what i mean. my engine dont have weber.. i wish. im not sure what is that engine. im learning.
I have looked every where but have not been able to find this engine! This engine will not fit the AE86 right? i recently bought one, a left handed one! but i need to re-do the whole thing.
MAN! i have a question, i think i know the answer but i wanna double check..
i have a 97 corolla (4afe), the Black and Silver will fit right? with tranny? ive been searching online, but nothing, ive seen pics and videos but, theyre like 95..
thanks man. This is not my car, I helped my buddy in this project. IIRC, that kid is made by Garage Annex, I think Techno Toy tuning is suppose to make their own front dizzy conversion kit
as far as i know about the street legal speech.... you can have it in you car but make sure that your car is not TOO loud i.e. super low, roll cage. excessive decal on the car stating i love to drift, pull e brake to drift, loud asss muffler, ETC.... if you have a legit looking ae86 or any car WITH heavy engine modifications i suggest that you keep your car very descrete "almost a SLEEPER" look to it cuz some cops now a days keep up with information like this....
i have a question and i think it sound stupid to you... sorry for that.. but anyway what transmission did you use on it bec. blacktop came from a FWD how did you make it a straight 4? thanks! hehehe
thanks bro now i know.. if i have a project car like that in the future.. some said that they prefer the 4agze(turbo charge) because the black top are hard to tuned is that true?
But IIRC, the reason claimed 4agze is easier to tune is because they use mass air flow sensor versus manifold absolute pressures sensor as the 20v blacktop uses. MAF response better to volumetric efficiency change and it compensate ign. timing and fuel pretty fast as load change
wow ure incredibly stupid for saying that. Do you not notice the sound and way it idles? If it was a standard motor and he reved it, it would have twitched. Plus on the back of the AE85 it says sr5. I dont know what fucken sr5 has a standard blacktop engine in it. You dont deserve to look at this vid, go watch some shitty v-tecs. douche
i did notise the sound it makes at idle dickhead and thats why i said its got bolt on bits all the internals are prolly stock except for the cams i have a cosworth with quad throttle bodies koz i actually like to win when i go to the track ! who said anything about hondas anyway ?
v-tec is not shitty, ill take my 86 over any honda any day but come on dude, give credit where credit is due. variable valve timing was the greatest thing to happen to the combustion engine since fuel injection. and honda invented it. you put a duel cam vtec in an eg and you got a mountain monster well capable of whopin an 86s ass. the desideing factor will come down to driver skill.
really, well there still getting royalties frome everybody that uses that technology. kinde like mazda holding the rotory patent when it was originally an improved wankle airplane motor, made bye some lady here in the u.s. in the 1920s. or something like that. just stuff ive read, could be wrong.
The first fuel powered rotary engine has been build by a german dude named Felix Wankel (as in "wankel engine") in 1932 but it ran only a few minutes.
He perfected his design until it was reliable in the 1960.
That noise (if you are referring to the high pitched) is the ISCV sucking air when the ITBs are shut. All it does is bypasses the air. Put one of those breather filters and noise is gone.
Good looking swap. I am about to start my second 20v swap. This time I am going silvertop with blacktop ECU. I am dropping it on a kp61. Are you running a thermostat?
Silvertop came from AE101, it still uses MAF sensor. Blcktop came from AE111, and it uses MAP sensor instead. Of course, there are many misc. difference in detail too
The AE111 has lighter internals than the AE101. Thats why you don't see people putting a turbo on a stock AE111. Plus the AE111 has an 11.1x1 Compression Ratio. If you turbo it u will blow the motor up.
What is that fast, high pitched squeaking noise? I just completed my swap and noticed that noise on idle and same as the blacktop on my friends car.

not true, in fact, the 20V 4AGE is only come from the FWD AE101 and AE111 chassis.

Good looking swap. I am about to start my second 20v swap. This time I am going silvertop with blacktop ECU. I am dropping it on a kp61. Are you running a thermostat?

might want to let it warm up first and run it in

What changes between blacktop and silvertop? And all 4A-GE engines have that nice sounds, I dont asking about hp, just sound!

Silvertop came from AE101, it still uses MAF sensor. Blcktop came from AE111, and it uses MAP sensor instead. Of course, there are many misc. difference in detail too

I see, then sound of thats engines the same?

The AE111 has lighter internals than the AE101. Thats why you don't see people putting a turbo on a stock AE111. Plus the AE111 has an 11.1x1 Compression Ratio. If you turbo it u will blow the motor up.
