New M5 engine is TWIN Turbocharged. Twin Scroll technology is something different. Twin or Single scroll depends about turbine housing design. Also these turbocharges operates on low pressure. Real capabilities on stock turbos are much more than 600bhp.
@chrisluvjh The interesting part is that it sustain that 560 for 1000 rpm ... being totally flat. That really look like some electronic limiting the output ... which might very well be that they plan to make a (up to) 660hp version of this engine in something else ... M8/M10 or at least later (mid life) do like MB and sell a engine upgrade kit taking it to i.e. 600hp (as soon as they have resolved the legal stuff) ... (check out the power/torque curve of it ... very odd looking).

The CTS-V is not at all an opponent to fear for any luxury power sedan from BMW, Audi and Mercedes! Especially BMW and Audi are much more dynamic, much better quality, much more advanced technologically and JUST MUCH FASTER. Period.
Here's a key to u all that want a BMW vehicle,make sure u have at least double of the price of that car,just think more performance,more the mantience,and if it's not maintained correctly(meaning BMW is not made for everyone),& if u say so u can afford one,but not sure how to maintain it to perfection,go buy a Audi,they have a more much better performance reliability. I have beaten a CTS-V with my M5 E60(stock) ... from around 80 km/h to about 200 ... then I braked lol because the Cadillac was already something like 20 or 30 meters behind me ... maybe more (or less lol) , but you know with the speed distances are not looking what they really are...this was done on the runway of a closed airport .
Anyway i just wanted to say that if the E60 was able to beat the CTS-V , The New M5 will do it for sure with no worries

The current M3 is a true sports car in it's class, The current M5 (E60) is a magnificent machine that has been outdated. Many car makers it took them decades to figure out how to beat the M5.
@thegoodok: Dude or a u a female? I dont know but I want to correct you again. There is a current M3 that does 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds flat. The one with dual-clutch automated manual (7-speed twin-clutch auto), is a bad ass and just the perfect machine on the truck in it's class.
it is irrelevant which car is quicker around the corner, the most buyers aren't talented enough to push the cars to it's limits. it's more which car you like and prefer. i prefer BMW, because it is the initiator of these kind of cars and i think BMW suites me the best with the way i want to ride.
It is not fair to compare the rs6 with the m5, the rs6 is the fastest saloon since a year and a half now and will obviously be no competition in front of the m5 f10. this always happens, audi get a model out in first, then MERC does and finally bmw get their's out and it beats all of the others. for example the rs4, m3 and c 63, even though the c 63 got out after the beamer, the beamer still was a lot better and the rs4 came out first and wasn't the best of all three. Still, Id get an audi.
new m5 F10 is real faster than E63 amg, but it is almost the same as rs6, but m5 looks more sexy, and provocative and looks like a big shark,,,bmw always uses high performance in all m series

@gigi172 Right now Audi RS6 is better even though its handling is not so stable probably because steering responce, engine sitting way up front and over weight.
On the other hand it has lamborgini engine with twin trubo added and 4x4 Quattro system NOT BAD. Probably M5 will be as over weight as RS6 and no all wheel drive so improving the handling will be very important...Gas milage and weight brought by new luxury toys is the main problem nowadays. CSL M5 would be nice but BMW doesnt want it.

BMW has seriously been putting poor quality in cars lately and end up not being able to last passed 50 k miles or less without sum problem. Look at how many issues theres been on the 335i. Great car to drive, had one new, sold it cus so many problems. Now BMW wants to turbo charge all their cars!?!great that just means more break downs
@jlubez idk about that really... mayb they just have a lot of problems here in the stats or something cause everyone i've known has had many issues with their 335i or m3 and end up having it towed to the dealer for repairs and complain about it every time. And everyone I know is pretty anal about maintaining their cars when needed. For example neighbor has a e60 M5 and has to put a quarter or oil in every month and the dealer said its normal but has still had issues with his M5... :(

@EagleHANtsi Well boosting? Any battery would die one day. thats not a mechanical problem. I sell Luxury used cars and by my experience and the mechanics I work with BMW is more reliable but any car even Honda Civic break down some times. Check the consumer report for more accurate statics.

I dont know what you drive now. But being fast is not enough. Next time you are buying a car I would recommend to drive different cars in that category and see which one is better and meets your need because being the fastest is just good for the track not on the public roads. :))
@E60BMWM5 I am assuming you have neither been in, nor driven a CTS-V? Because if you had, you would have realized how bland and boring the M5 interior is to the CTS, you would have realized how much more nimble it is mid corner, and how it accelerates, stops, and corners faster then the M5. You seem to have a commanding tone for someone who obveously has no experience with these. The Audi is not perticularly dynamic to drive quickly, I would rate it below the CTS-v all around.
@E60BMWM5 To say it's not competitive? Especially for the price, and you can work on it yourself. It is engineered like a workman's tool, making it much more robust and in return track friendly in the long haul. I believe it addresses its performance orientation much more adeptly then its rivals, I also enjoy the American sized seats, I see no reason to spend more on a German vehicle that has a higher buy in and maintenance cost for limited tangible benefit.

I love BMW, I really do, and I think this design for the new M5 is beautiful. But does anyone else think that it looks like an over sized M3 coupe with two extra doors? I think that's what makes it more appealing in some odd way, but I was just curious if anyone else noticed or shared that similar sentiment.
If this is the real/final exterior/body tweak of the new 2011 M5, then, gosh, it is probably the most beautiful M5 ever. The frame from the side is exquisitely perfect, little can be improved on. Contrast this pose with the last M5, where someone had taken a huge knife & chopped off the trunk area, with the engineers deciding, as a result, to quickly slab on an attachment-trunk, creating an eye-sore gash running diagonally from rear windshield to tail lights. It WAS just a heinous sight!
The first picture was a very good depiction by M5Board.com. The car looks aweosme; the best looking M5 since the E39. It sounds like it will be pretty promising performance wise too. Hopefully, we'll see it at Paris this september.

I have beaten a CTS-V with my M5 E60(stock) ... from around 80 km/h to about 200 ... then I braked lol because the Cadillac was already something like 20 or 30 meters behind me ... maybe more (or less lol) , but you know with the speed distances are not looking what they really are...this was done on the runway of a closed airport .
Anyway i just wanted to say that if the E60 was able to beat the CTS-V , The New M5 will do it for sure with no worries

I have a 08 M5 black, 07 335i barbera red met (I was lucky on this one.. bone stock dyno pull had 335 to the wheels.. oversight by BMW I'm sure) also it has 6k miles and 6k in upgrades, wife has a 2011 Z4 sdrive35i jet black..

The current M3 is a true sports car in it's class, The current M5 (E60) is a magnificent machine that has been outdated. Many car makers it took them decades to figure out how to beat the M5.
@thegoodok: Dude or a u a female? I dont know but I want to correct you again. There is a current M3 that does 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds flat. The one with dual-clutch automated manual (7-speed twin-clutch auto), is a bad ass and just the perfect machine on the truck in it's class.

it is irrelevant which car is quicker around the corner, the most buyers aren't talented enough to push the cars to it's limits. it's more which car you like and prefer. i prefer BMW, because it is the initiator of these kind of cars and i think BMW suites me the best with the way i want to ride.

It is not fair to compare the rs6 with the m5, the rs6 is the fastest saloon since a year and a half now and will obviously be no competition in front of the m5 f10. this always happens, audi get a model out in first, then MERC does and finally bmw get their's out and it beats all of the others. for example the rs4, m3 and c 63, even though the c 63 got out after the beamer, the beamer still was a lot better and the rs4 came out first and wasn't the best of all three. Still, Id get an audi.

Cadillac CTS-V is not the rival of M5.. Main rivals are Audi RS6 and E63 AMG
Nobody buys a Cadillac CTS-V outside of USA because it is not a complete car.
Idea of an original M5 was a luxury saloon goes like supercar so it is 2 cars in 1. CTS-V is not that car so don't worry.
However, not beating RS6 would be big disappointment for new M5.

@gigi172 Right now Audi RS6 is better even though its handling is not so stable probably because steering responce, engine sitting way up front and over weight.
On the other hand it has lamborgini engine with twin trubo added and 4x4 Quattro system NOT BAD. Probably M5 will be as over weight as RS6 and no all wheel drive so improving the handling will be very important...Gas milage and weight brought by new luxury toys is the main problem nowadays. CSL M5 would be nice but BMW doesnt want it.

Look at the older m5 E39, it was a v8 with 400hp, cadillac's old cts-v was also a v8 with 400 hp and they were both comparably equal in comparison. BMW has seriously been putting poor quality in cars lately and end up not being able to last passed 50 k miles or less without sum problem. Look at how many issues theres been on the 335i. @jlubez idk about that really... mayb they just have a lot of problems here in the stats or something cause everyone i've known has had many issues with their 335i or m3 and end up having it towed to the dealer for repairs and complain about it every time. And everyone I know is pretty anal about maintaining their cars when needed. For example neighbor has a e60 M5 and has to put a quarter or oil in every month and the dealer said its normal but has still had issues with his M5... :(

Because if you had, you would have realized how bland and boring the M5 interior is to the CTS, you would have realized how much more nimble it is mid corner, and how it accelerates, stops, and corners faster then the M5. You seem to have a commanding tone for someone who obveously has no experience with these. The Audi is not perticularly dynamic to drive quickly, I would rate it below the CTS-v all around.

@E60BMWM5 To say it's not competitive? Especially for the price, and you can work on it yourself. It is engineered like a workman's tool, making it much more robust and in return track friendly in the long haul. I believe it addresses its performance orientation much more adeptly then its rivals, I also enjoy the American sized seats, I see no reason to spend more on a German vehicle that has a higher buy in and maintenance cost for limited tangible benefit.

I hope it will be able to beat the 6.2 supercharged caddy because so far by the data sheet doesnt look like. 6.2L suprchrged V8 vs. 4.4 Twin turbo. I understand the M5 V8 has two turbos, butCaddy has a way bigger displacemnt and is forced induction. Hope BMW doesnt let their fans down.

If this is the real/final exterior/body tweak of the new 2011 M5, then, gosh, it is probably the most beautiful M5 ever. The frame from the side is exquisitely perfect, little can be improved on. Contrast this pose with the last M5, where someone had taken a huge knife & chopped off the trunk area, with the engineers deciding, as a result, to quickly slab on an attachment-trunk, creating an eye-sore gash running diagonally from rear windshield to tail lights. It WAS just a heinous sight!
