Sorry, it is called parallel universes. The past trio that chose not to get in the time machine were being killed by the agents. The future trio that had chose to get in the time machine were not the same as the past trio who had not. Therefore saving them is inconsequential to themselves or their time continuum.

No, you people are thinking it through all wrong. They actually made a mistake and called the future Chad, Matt, and Rob the past ones, and vice versa. If they are 5 minutes past the time they left in the time machine, then that makes the ones getting beat up their future selves. But you still have to save them because if you don't they will just get killed in the future. If they get beat up 5 minutes in the future after this, they will get saved by their past selves.
