@PandorasLuckbox I don't submit this video to things? I submit the actual game, and people can play several hours of it and understand it as it was intended. :)
At the end of the day, it's a game that must be experienced by being played. Screenshots and video won't convey what makes it work.
@Demruth I'm talking about all the faces with the dates next to them. At first glance I thought it was a list of people who died. I lol'd, though. Wtf.
@Godknown It's true. I've died several times whilst making this. I thought you were referring to the fact that the project had changed names or something. The game is still very much alive and well, and will be shown at PAX in Seattle next month as one of the PAX10. :)
@MrMarxol For a start, this trailer is incredibly old and the game was much more conceptual at this stage than it has now become. Secondly, even with all of the refinements since (and yet to come), it's very difficult to convey what exactly the game is in images or video, considering that it's very difficult to know how to describe the game even when / after playing it.
From the makers of the ASMUEAIOKHM and the IFDIAPHMKT comes the Multi-Award Winning Philosophical First-Person Single Player Exploration Puzzle Art Game, or as the people on the street call it, the Mawp-fips-pee-pag!
I'm stuck on the end section :( I'm not sure if I should go in the pit first or prop the door open and backtrack....
How many blocks are you supposed to have when you start the second half of the point if no return? I have 3, but originally I thought you could only carry 1 and wasted a lot
of time. :)
I'll buy the full version, but I hope the gun sound is different or at least lower. Unless one of the puzzles is based on it being obnoxious. :)
@cdeization Don't worry, all sounds in the game are being completely revamped. What you're playing is very very old.
Also, that puzzle is structured such that you can get through it with one tile or with 4 tiles. To answer your question, you need to go down the pit last. You need to work out how to get all 3 tiles to that segment right before the final door.
@Demruth Haha, solved it! It wasn't that hard. I just needed the courage to continue! I'm not sure if I'm missing something in the picture room, but I'll wait for the full version. If you set up a mailing list it would help me buy the game more quickly. :)
Really cool game. Somehow it reminded me of MYST. That whole being transported to a new world vibe, I guess. Overall I like your puzzles more though. :)
@cdeization If you've reached the "Life isn't free" room then that's the end. If you're talking about the credits room, that was just something stupid that I put in the credits room as a joke. :)
@Undeadspiral If you wanted the game to run on Mac / Linux, that'd be something you'd have to take up with Epic, as I'm restricted to what the UDK runs on. One possibility would be if the game were running through OnLive (if you're allowed to get around platform restrictions that way). As for consoles, that's a wait and see thing. Nothing is confirmed, either way there. Part of this depends on what happens at launch, and what comes later. :)
@Demruth well obviously the dev would know if you could get it onto onlive. A platform like that really is the future. And a platform with huge potential especially for indie games. Get it on there, mac ,pc, linux, tv
@isorSOT Until I replace it, which I'm yet to do as it's a purely aesthetic change (though with some accessibility bonuses when I do remodel it). The game started off as a UT3 mod back in 2009, and has been going through a transitional process of replacing everything.
I'll have a proper gun in there before the game is released. Don't worry. :)
@isorSOT It's not released yet. If you tried playing the old old demo and it didn't run, keep in mind that there've been significant optimisations and improvements since then.
@Demruth i don't think, that i can play this game after a full release with all optimisations, because my PC just can't run any game on Unreal Engine 3,including UDK,or UT3...
Well, I've been certainly trying all year, but I may miss that 2010 release... a little bit... It's not for lack of trying, I am just trying to make this into the best game that it can be. Even looking at this video makes me go "Wow. Some of this stuff is so old and out of date... I really need to update this trailer."
I will, in good time. I have lots of new stuff to show off. :)
Love this game! It looks simply amaizing and now its up for consideration for IGF 2011, too! But you have to admit that you are not making the 2010 release. In any way, I really cant wait for the release! I hope it wont take to long now. :)
I'm part of a video game design course at a University....and when I downloaded the demo of Hazard, I could not believe my eyes. It is a beautiful game with really really really challenging...and easy puzzles as well, I love puzzle games and I miss puzzle games. To me Hazard is something the gaming world has been absent of for awhile now and its great to see it return in the form of Hazard: The Journey of Life...and for all of those reading...I refer to merely the demo version..consider that :P
Can you make a demo without the "No Return" thing? Its really annoying seeing how much unexplored spaces there are, but are all being blocked by the demo.
"It's Not a 1st Person Shooter" Is that a gun "shooting" in "1st person" view by any chance? Brilliant game Demruth. Hope you win the Grand Prize!!!!!!!
@GOOB3000 Thanks. It's not actually a first person shooter though. It is a gun, yes, but there's no violence in the game. You're not shooting enemies. :)
@Slance1Himself If by some chance you didn't get very far because you found yourself stuck, don't worry. The demo is now getting fairly old. I've put in an abundance of work since, and will continue doing so until the final release, that ensures that absolutely anyone can see everything there is to experience in the game, without ever getting stuck. It's been quite the design challenge, but I'll definitely be making it work for everyone, without compromising on the puzzles. :)
How on earth did you craft such a work of art? I mean, did you use a bunch of code and what not to form the paradoxic puzzles? Please respond as soon as you can.
@rubbermuck Haha, good find. I find it hilarious that the "multi award-winning philosophical first person single player exploration puzzle art game" phrase was transcribed almost perfectly! Especially when phrases like "because it is the cause of death based in atlanta political polls" arise from relatively simple sentences.
Re the work itself, definitely an interesting-sounding game. Any news on a full release?
How do you win so many awards with so little footage?
