Nee - aus Gold nicht gerade. Aber extrem hochwertig verarbeitet. Die Audiowerte von dem Gerät entsprechen halt dem besten was möglich. Das Ding heisst nicht umsonst "Master Recorder". Mit solchen Geräten wurden die Masterbänder für Musikproduktionen hergestellt die dann in das Presswerk kamen. Von daher erklärt sich also auch die Qualität die einfach gut sein muss. Außerdem war die Stückzahl von den Geräten nicht sehr hoch - vielleicht 2.500 Stück...

Die Spielzeit beträgt bei 1000m Studioband (z.B. BASF PER 528) bei 9,5cm etwas weniger als 3 Stunden. Wenn man hingegen ein 1100m Maxell Band nimmt, dann sind es zimelich exakt 3 Stunden. Allerdings natürlich nur einseitig bespielbar da es sich hier um ein 2-Spur-Gerät handelt.
It´s just a question of the tape-tension and the tape-type. You can´t use Ampex-tapes for example, because they are not backside-coatet. This has been an BASF tape - specially made for German broadcast applications.
Yes - the A820 is a real nice recorder! But this A816 is very nice, too! I think both recorders are comparable. But the A816 was the last recorder that STUDER in 1992 built... This is the state of technical art!

But belive me: the recorder cost in 1992 around 15.000 Euros (it´s about 20.500 US-Dollar) - it´s called "Master Recorder" and of course it is a real "Master Recorder" for professional use. So the quality is brilliant. ;-)
MP3 is by far the worst consumer listening format in use today. When it comes to CD, the differences are a little different. When it comes to signal to noise ratio, CD wins. When it comes to frequency response and low level detail, 1/4" wins. I have many recording devices in my studio and I'd rather mix to 1/4" than even 24-bit 44.1K digital. At 96K, it's a tough choice.
I've got a BT878 TV tuner card where I hacked it so I could use the analog to digital converter as a radio tuner. It samples at 896,000 hertz. Yes, the number of zeros is correct. Frequency response is from almost nearly DC to 448 kilohertz. I hooked up my Technics SL-QD35 turntable to the input with no preamp, and it recorded music off a vinyl record up to 40 kilohertz, then I did the RIAA curve under equalization, and it sounded pretty good, even though I can't play back any sound above 24kHz
What a wonderful piece of equipment! I have an old sony reel to reel, but nothing quite that extraordinary! Is there any more companies that make reel to reels anymore? And I really wish I knew all of what you were saying, and I want to learn to speak german as well.
Sorry for speaking German. What you see is a swiss-made professional tape-recorder from 1992. The mashine is very heavy (60 Kg) and was very expensive (around 15.000 Dollars). It still works great and sound wonderful!
That's okay. A lot of what is being said is pretty self-explanatory (sp?). Howcome the magnetic tape appears to be yellow on one side? I have never seen that before.
The yellow-tape is a leader-tape to separate different parts of a recording. These tapes are not recordable. There are a lot more different colored tapes. For example: red-white wich means 15 ips / stereo. Or Blue-white wich means 7,5 ips / stereo. If you use a single colored tape - for example only red - the recording has to be mono. If the leader-tape is red-white-black, the recording was made on 15 ips / stereo with timecode... All these colors correspond the German broadcast standardts.
Hi there! I am not sure of what you talking about. Do you mean the weight of the recorder? This recorder is very heavy - the weight is about 57 Kg without any console or other possible equipment. You need two strong man to move it out and in to the house... ;-)

Du hast natürlich vollkommen Recht @Discoreporter. Es handelt sind nicht um die Andruck- sondern natürlich um die Umlenkrolle.
