  • I want to buy this on itunes but you have to buy the whole album :( i wouldnt mind that but i have all the other songs

  • great performance.

  • Intergalactic

  • We can be proud on this 'Dutch Lady of the violin'.

  • Ze heeft ook nog eens van die leuke pretoogjes als ze het applaus in ontvangst neemt.

  • her interpretation is out of this world. So much emotion and fiery passion. I would've killed to be at this concert.

  • so much passion.. o.0

    = D

  • ES PERFECTA.

  • Janine bravo!

  • Исключительное сочетание таланта и внешнего обаяния. Браво!

  • Fantastisch!!

  • I wish to listen hers with close eyes, its exercises to squatting very tiresomely and don't aestheticai.

  • AND I love her dress!

  • She is absolutely excellent. Would love to hear her in Prokofiev 1.

  • fab: mind you, do you think the guy who did a domino at 3"00 got fired?

  • She feels every note--genius!

  • She is really a talented violinist...... wonderful ! Thanks for upload the viodeo villalobosfandc

  • Goodness gracious, what a wonderful piece with an especially talented violinist:

  • Janine Jansen - Intergalactic Violinist!

  • Don't think I've heard a better performance of this

  • She kinda reminds of what paul gilbert does

  • I see a number of comments that disparage Janine for her "movement". For me, two of the joys of watching a performance by Janine Jansen are observing her facial expressions and her body language. Yes, there may be others who give a more technically "correct" performance, but Janine has "soul". She turns the notes on the sheet music into something that lives and breathes. 08/05/2011

  • Heersend!!

  • Excellent playing but slightly overdone histrionics .

  • @leontud do u know how much energy it takes to play like this? its exhausting! sometimes the 'overdone' histrionics is used to limber yourself up and free your body and your mind to continue to play with your all

  • damn she plays angry

  • Judging from the reaction of the audience here, I would say those of you who find fault with JJ's performances are obviously in a pitiful minority. The woman is amazing, her movements show passion and expression..........AND, I doubt if there is a much better way to get all that music out of that 1727 Stradivari "Barrere".

Play on, JJ! The critics are too few to matter!

    peace

  • This is probably one of the best violin performances in youtube. Great and beautifull Janine.

  • una gran violinista, hace sentir lo que toca, tiene mucha musicalidad y aparte de sus cualidades mentales es una preciosa mujer, es como si un angel tocara. bravoo!!

  • tremenda interpretación! grande janine jansen :)

  • Incredibly!!!

  • I wouldn't say she's dancing at all. she's setting a mood that matches the playfulness and seriousness of the piece when required. all violinist have their own forms of expressing the music (there's a musician there, not just an instrument). A performance is as much a visual show as it is audible. Honestly to watch her move around this way probably give the audience a more in-depth interpretation of the piece. Movement and musical go hand in hand, its surprising ppl haven't caught on yet :/

  • @death0personified Exactly. Its art. If people wanted to hear music, let them buy a bloody album of hers or something. Each day people losing taste toward expression and art.

  • @death0personified You are so right, my friend! I'm sure the great composers enjoyed dancing as much as anyone! Physical expression of music was (is) just as important as the music itself, imho.

    peace

  • wow....o_o

  • It is "unsurpassed!!! Better to execute, on my modest opinion, simply not maybe!!!! As emotionally, musically, what co-operating with the orchestra!!! Of genius! )) So easily and naturally at Janin all turns out, that is sometimes folded the impression, that she plays, so to say, "with a supply". I am fanaticism of this fantastic girl.)) Bravissimo all, including to the mister to the conductor with an orchestra!!!!!!!!!!))))

  • there are a lot of idiots in this world !!!1

  • OMG !! She's WONDERFUL !! And the others musicians, too...Love it

  • I seriously love her bow work. Also love the way she puts panache into it.

  • beste digitalDNA

  • Impecable rendition, Superb !!!!!!!

  • is the best interpret

  • a rare combination of impeccable technique and emotion.

  • Pasion y tecnica juntas . Brillante

  • so hot at 5:52.

  • @kevhsiao Yeah...!

  • the best of the best!

  • It's as if she had an orgasm with his violin and orchestra

  • @KashiTV That is exactly what I think too

  • Best violinist in the world, by far !!

  • @123prion Amen!

  • Oh wow, I thought Andre Roo was................

  • M A G I S T R A L !!!!!! J'en ai même pleuré tellement c'est beau snif

  • Amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • full control of the piece. absolutely beautiful.

  • I didn't know Alfred Hitchcock conducted orchestras?

  • @jamesmanortiz

    Yeah, it's pretty strange !!!!

    Hahaha LMFAO

  • amazing! bravo!

  • OMG

  • OMG

  • i wish i could have been in Berlin when she was playing that.. the best performance and violin player ..

  • What a great performance!

    Thank you for posting!

  • Omg at exactly 8:00 minutes she does the most lovely amazing and perfect down bows that I can't even begin to comprehend the lady is amazing and although I have never seen her in person I feel just as graced and honored to listen to her over youtube.

  • Did she almost drop her bow at 1:30?

  • @TheKwanboy nope

  • @legoinaboat1 Actually at 139...140......:)

  • @TheKwanboy I don't think so, I think that was an emotion-spasm.

  • Talk about Passion! I loveed her performance almost as much as.....her performance! Absolutley Fantastic!!!!!!!!

  • posture is so important to beginning learners... but if you can already play that beautifully, who cares about the posture? I don't care how she plays it, all I know is that she sounded wonderful...

  • exquisite.

What a breath of fresh air. There have been way too many young violinists who just keep vibrato-ing their way through everything they play. What superb tone this lovely young woman is blessed with.

  • 27 assholes

  • It is elegant. I think the feeling here is better than the J Bell performance

  • SHE'S a true entertainer

  • shut up she is wonderful

  • I love the emotional expressiveness. Technically, it is superb. That's what this piece should be. Thanks for posting this.

  • wow, you NEVER hear people play like this anymore. Seriously awesome.

  • I really like her playing!it's just wonderful!! but too much show...the looks ugly while she plays...too bad :-(

  • @sususchatzi In your opinion----Not mine nor most others, judging from the posts. Too bad for you. =-(

  • way too much attack and spiccatto, some notes don't even sound, far to aggressive for st saens, recently heard a brilliant performance of this by James Ehnes, same tempo, however much clearer and concise.

  • exactly who dares to not like this beautiful, extraordinary, expressive violinist. 27 assholes

  • god i love her!!! shes so inspirational

  • In fact, I think she has a beautiful sound, but her style is quite abrupt.

  • why so serious?

  • jeeez, is it just me or is that audience like never-ending!?

  • Her shoulder is so high up.... it does not look relaxed....

  • @alixvhessen doesn't matter... the sound is relaxed

  • @alixvhessen doesn't matter, the sound is relaxed... many masters have this deviation from the standard.. sarah chang's bow grip for example is considered unconventional

  • @TempoFurioso sarah chang's bow grip is unconventional, what!??

  • @Coolcat607 yep.... its not so noticeable since its a small detail... but if you look closely, her thumb is always collapsed... <--- basics say you should never do that right?

  • @TempoFurioso The great David Oistrakh used to say : " I dont care how you play your violin - with your hands , or with your legs , as long as it is beautiful " ....she is one of the best , no question about that !

  • @Karaiany exactly what I was saying with my first comment

  • @Karaiany that is why i mentioned Sarah Chang's little deviation, to point that Janine's high shoulder angle is not a concern, as long as it sounds good...

  • @TempoFurioso Thanks for pointing that out , my friend ! Agree !

  • Agresividad, Dulzura, y Sonido. Todo en un mismo Arco.... Como es posible eso????????

  • Enjoy her music.. each musician has a different style to play master pieces and JJ does it pretty good!! :)

  • I am thinking...maybe a couple of you need to pour some aged scotch into a snifter, plug in JJ playing The Meditation and just kinda chill out. Then, come back here and start over. I, too, am "the audience", not a professional musician. Soooo...she moves around alot. So what. That is just her way, I suppose. The music is enormously beautiful and that, I digress, is why we are here in the first place :)Have a nice day :)

  • she is just playing up her technique but has no genuine feel for the piece. Yes, she can be compared to Justin Bieber but, please, not the likes of Kogan, Heifetz, nor Oistrakh.

  • @freeqwerqwer Screw Justin...whatever. He has no place even shairing the tiniest little space anywhere JJ is....youtube or otherwise. He is a punk.

  • Like a fire!

  • A beautiful, characterful performance of a superb work! Brava Ms. Jansen!

  • So peeps complaining about her posture and dancing? Do you know it requires energy to play like that? Play it like a stump, surely youll get a stump like performance. 25 dislikes, 25 idiots with no taste.

    Legendary performance!

  • @DigitalDNA Unquestionably fine playing. But you appear to have missed the point. Her excessive gestures add NOTHING to the performance. And as usual her playing IS wonderful and flawless, her RIDICULOUS gestures can ONLY DETRACT.

  • @mrwasbesonders Sorry all you folks who seem to compare music, musicians, performances and pieces as if they RAM cards in a computer to be swapped in and out when you need more "go". After playing violin for over 38 years, I can personally tell anyone that once you start becoming one with any instrument, the two of you are "ALIVE" together and it can only be experienced, not described in words. Try telling someone what an orange tastes like without using the word orange. Only eating one does it!

  • @elixir22vyle737 Thanks, I hate comparisons as well. But I don't actually recall doing what you're accusing people of, in this instance in any event. My sentiments were that I love the playing, and hate the excessive body movement. I think you are mixing me up with someone else. Thanks for the comment though. You have expanded my surrealistic horizons.

  • @mrwasbesonders Theyre not totally ridiculous. Haha!

  • @DigitalDNA I didn't say they were "totally" ridiculous. I just said ridiculous, though actually your addition of the word "totally" reveals an omission on my part. Thank you for flagging it up.

  • @DigitalDNA 27 idiots already...

  • @thiagoblanco People just dont understand.

  • @DigitalDNA woh woh woh.... keep it down boy...

  • @DigitalDNA

well, I wouldn't say legendary... she's OK overrated as many these days! Type Sergey Krilov Saint saens Gala 13 09 09 to see a great performance of the piece.

  • @NOalRAZZISMO Well, 31 people, on top of 672, think otherwise, as well as my self.

  • @DigitalDNA It isn't necessary to move and sway in order to get a better sound... That is silly. and stump like performance?.. I'm sure you wouldn't say Heifetz has a stump performance.. He doesn't move around or show emotion.. but that doesn't matter... emotion should be heard through the music.. which Heifetz does. All in all I still love Janine.. Your stump comment was somewhat irritating.

  • @sirus804 You're irritating, misunderstanding the core concept of what I said.

  • @DigitalDNA I understood perfectly what you said... but you're trying to skew it otherwise pretending it had some secret different meaning in order to defend yourself.. please.

  • @sirus804 And you misunderstand me yet again. Prejudice much? Piss off.

  • @DigitalDNA Maybe you should re-read what you wrote and think about rewording it it you didn't mean it to sound that way... Because your comment is basically saying that it takes energy for her to perform the movements she makes.. and if a person doesn't make the movements she does (playing like a stump), then they'll have a terrible performance.. So please reword that.

  • @sirus804 You are a clueless lune. You putting words in my mouth now? Okay I'll explain, you thick cunt. There are many great musicians out there that really don't have a physical performance when they're playing. If im investing 90$ in a ticket to see a concert, there had better be a MUSICIAN THERE!!! Not a STUMP producing beautiful music. When it comes down to concerts, you're going to see both, musician, and music, not one. Thats why theres variety. Did I crack that thick skull just a bit?

  • @sirus804 it doesn't matter what kind of movements a musician makes when they're playing. As long as they play it well then who the hell cares? If you think any great performance is bad just because they moved or didn't move, then you are certainly there for the wrong reasons. I do think too much movement such as in this case that all the moving around and creepy looks can distract from the music itself. But overall it was a splendid performance and sometimes we just have to close our eyes...

  • @sirus804 Heifetz may not sway and move, but even he has a way of holding himself as he plays (and an expression that gives the piece his own voice) that is unique to him, so in SEEING Heifetz perform, one would expect that visual representation. I could go further to say without it, one might be disappointed in seeing him perform..

  • seriously, she is truely the best.

  • Actually, this is beatiful playing and I enjoy it more by not looking at the video and just listening. She doesnt need the histrionics. The playing stands by itself. Why do so many great players these days who while playing wonderfully eg. Joshua Bell, Maxim Vengerov, and Janine opt to look like they have body movement and facial expression tourets? Maybe they really have, after all some people believe Heifetz was aspergic. Maybe its the downside to being a genuis.

  • This is the best performance i have seen since since Margot Fonteyn dancing Coppelia.

  • @arielsonnenberg I would personally say it is not in the same league as The Spice Girls' dancing in their video "Tell me what you want, what you really really want." I think it has the edge over the late great Wacko Jacko's "Thriller" however, though as with much music art and dance this is so much about personal preference.

  • Bravo... You should be teaching how to play this to Anne Akiko Meyers!!! Look at the site counter ...more than 100x Anne Akiko Meyers' performance. I bet you'r not playing a $3.6M violin.

  • I love 1:31. She either saw a ghost or a bumble bee flew up her dress!!

  • @mrwasbesonders ha, ha.....I love it.

  • This is the best performance I've heard since the Michael Rabin recording.

  • best performance, ever:

1:28 - whaaaaaa? is that really how it goes?

1:43 - seriously guys? seriously? do i need to show you how to play?

2:02 - come on guys, put some passion into it...like me

2:14 - oops I spasmed, twice, but it sounded normal! heh heh

2:37 - stupid, pesky nose itch...

  • She has stolen my heart

  • When music becomes .... love, so much beautifull

  • Amazing ! People who don't like this video dont understand the way Janine plays and the way she understands how it has to be played! doesnt matter she's perfect for this piece!

  • An angel playing music from heaven

  • And she skipped a few notes at 3:25 at the top of the run. Her fast off the string sound is sloppy, muddied and indistinct compared to Nat. But Nat, omg what a master of that.

Sort of impossible to ever fill those shoes.

Now, as for the movement. Is that causing any "damage?" I'm not convinced of that in total. I really don't see a lot of excessive movement.

  • Well, I agree with you about the timing and etc but Milstein:, he's my hero so of course I agree. You can hear that in the 1st 5 bars! But it is also an outdoor performance and the mic might be playing tricks on her sound. That-s where motion is definitely a problem! Yes, 1:32 is messed up. N.M. has the music right there and she's interpreted it. But at 1:39 she has a great rock n' roll G-string growl haha.

  • Mi violinista preferida.

  • the argument between you two sort of pulled the attention from the music wich is a shame,... are you sure you both are grown adults?

  • Janine Jansen is incredible! I just wish she could have had a better timpanist... >.<

  • Looooove <3333

  • Comment removed

  • Yep, that's a pownage all right...

--No doubt-- this is the best version so far......plus she looks fun to cuddle with...

  • yes, i think janine plays very well<3

    but her dancing O-O

en her face, omg x'3. lol, it's just too much, and you can't see if she feels the music, becauce, her face doesn't let to see that, and her dancing =-= is terrible...

  • Prachtig/Beautiful

Is it posible to put this video again on YouTube in HD format?

I'll would be very pleased with it and I'll think many others!

    Gretings from Holland

  • @IKSFaktor Dit stuk werd enkele dagen geleden tot mijn verrukking uitgezonden via Brava TV in Nederland, Brava herhaalt zijn uitzendingen heel vaak , dus wellicht kunt u het daar nog bekijken.

  • Who dared to dislike this!? Oh, I'm betting Justin Bieber fans.

  • @Citan1981 why the hell r u so boring...leave him alone...i'm rock n heavy metal music fan n on every fckng video is justin bieber's name....just listen to music you clicked for n STFU about bieber.....

  • @hary202 LEAVE JUSTIN ALOOONE!

  • @Citan1981 u just didn't get what i said! that's what i'm asking ppl 2 do....listen 2 music u want, let others listen what they want ;) evrbdy happy! btw; happy new year! xD

  • @Citan1981

    I suppose Justin Bieber fans do not happen to watch this even by accident (;

Plus, this hatred towards those is so overwhelmingly retarded and annoying -.-'

  • @Citan1981 I was wondering the same thing. LOL.. anyway... She is famous because she plays great and most of all she is a very very unique and HUMBLE musician, Thank God :)
