  • Teaching the trade with no B.S. and I think that's important. Now that I think about it, when you guys were in Kentucky, Cody went away for a sec when you guys found the "Taj Mahal," haha so I just want to know what you think about this situation and what you think is right. Great work, Thanks!

  • clothing ad general hygiene is. Obviously we're not gonna go into the woods with our deodorant and shampoo but what about clothes; and speaking of shampoo what do you do about poo. I'm don't like working with shit in my ass so I was wondering what's your take on that aspect as well; do you just drop trout wherever and move on or do you grab some thick, large, green leaves, or what? Any answers will be appreciated. Great work on Dual Survival! You and Cody really are doing it right. Teaching the

  • I know this if kind of a funny topic to some folks but I'm asking in all honesty. Any guy going on a self chartered trip into the wild for any length of time is (at least in my opinion) is going to neglect hygiene entirely because "that's the right thing to do! We're men aren't we?!" When frankly I disagree. I think some form of a clothing change Is important, partially because of the possibilty of collecting moisture that can compromise core body temp; so I want to know war you're take on clot

  • cheap $10 water bottle.... yet your still using it today. so that kinda proves you dont need the mythical Gyout designs bottle. any steel one will do heh

  • @godofnothingness.....duluth trading co makes a pack like this one. dave uses Duluth now and you can even order one with the pf logo. they are pricey though

  • where do u live in south east ohio i live athens

  • clothes? socks? underwear? food? and just how much water can you carry in that little bottle... personally, I think you need a bigger pack

  • Dave, have you ever come across the South African Defense Forces pattern 83 battle jacket (SAAV vest)? I heard that it's one hell of an item, whether for its carrying capacity, durability, build or comfort. I'm talking about the genuine used found in military surplus stores.

  • I can't Find a Pack like that any where any one wanna help me out??

  • As far as first aid goes, in addition to the cordage, needle, bandanna and duct tape, I'd like to respectfully recommend iodine water purification tablets. Aside from just purifying water, if you put a tablet or two in a small amount of water you get iodine solution which you can use to disinfect wounds.

  • Great tips thanks for all the great videos!!

  • At last, a sleeping bag! It blows my mind how many bushcraft types seem to avoid sleeping bags. Cool pack, man.

  • yeah, everytime I go camping, I freeze my ass off and can't ever sleep.

  • With the flexible solar panel you can attach it to your backpack and charge your mp3 player as your listening to your favorite music or you can be charging your headlamp as your walking along, or rig it up to charge them both at the same time. Great music and light are great to have when your outdoors staring at the stars

  • I think it would be handy to have a windup battery charger and or a flexible solar panel to charge up your headlamp batteries and what ever other battery operated devises you may have.

  • Dave is the bomb! The man!

  • Is that duck tape hanging on the out side of the pack ?

  • you need a nice HD cam so we can see your kits better

  • what are the dimentions of that pack?

  • this knife is not a pathfinder knife, this is the pathfinder bushcraft knife?

  • What about food and clothing?

  • Honestly some of the most sound advice I seen out here in Youtube land.

  • wat watch are you wearing

  • @Sk8ForLife8137 I can tell you.The watch is casio-pathfinder-pag240;)

  • @Reggie2nobel thanks

  • what about a machete? Its a knife an axe a shovel a hammer ....

  • Id love for you to do a nice long series of videos, made of cut up parts of you, out and about for a long weekend or something. Showing us everything between setting up, food, water etc. Could be really intresting.

  • dave i love these videos and they are really helpful. can you reply to this with a link for the website to thee backpack?

    Thanks,

    Matt

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the gift of knowledge!!!

  • thats true, a good nights sleep would be nice when you spend more than 4 days in the wild

  • what kind of watch is that ?

  • What bag is that?

  • @trevor6744 its a sweedish military mountain pack

  • Hey Dave, is that MSR cook pot the 750ml or the 1.1L?

  • Love all your videos Dave! I think we all owe you a huge debt of gratitude for teaching us all so much.

  • hey Dave, just a quick question, would you recomend a mora frost knife?

  • @skuller496 Who wouldn't....

  • Winter time? LOL. If there is green leaves, i wear a t-shirt.

  • Hey, Dave! I've been loving your videos the last day or so while laid up sick on the couch. Had a tiny question about this vid, and that's just this - what size of MSR cookpot is that?

  • Hey, Dave! I've been loving your videos the last day or so while laid up sick on the couch. Had a tiny question about this vid, and that's just this: what size of MSR cookpot is that?

  • Cool Info that am most definately going to take in to consideration when building my pack.

  • cant find pack :(

  • Which size bank-line do you use #12 or #36.

  • I didn't see anything about water purification. I assume you're boiling all your water to achieve that, is that correct? Also, for multiple days in the dirt, do you carry extra clothing?

  • for some reason you being on TV makes me trust you more.

  • what kind sporkk was that? where do u get it? thx karen

  • @cougarbahia KRT I think- I have the same one- I got mine at a knive store

I would almost suggest a Light My Fire "Spork"- spoon on one end fork on the other- over the KRT

    there like $3 at Dick's

  • Med kit?

  • wish this video had a button that stated love rather than like. Great videos Dave keep it up!

  • Noticed you also carry a large roll of tape. Is that a constant thing

  • @Texasoutback Duct tape/ cargo tape is one of the 10 C's of survivability, it has 1001 uses

  • @jkgoet01 As I am well aware, however that wasn't my question.

  • @Texasoutback smartass much, I was trying to help answer it to the best of my ability seeing that he may not have time to answer every menial question that appears on 1 of his several hundred videos

if you are well aware, then you could derive that he carries duct tape more often than not

  • @jkgoet01 seems to me your the smartass. My question and reply was strait forward. If Dave doesn't have time to answer a qestion thats fine, but an answer that doesnt have anything to do with the question does little good, not to mention that since my question was to Dave you are bing rude and intrusive.

  • @jkgoet01 Ok look, there was a specific reason for my question and it had nothing to do with you. I know what he use to carry and it was different then what he had in this video. I wanted to know if he was changing. I don't need you to bark at me. If Dave doesnt or cant answer thats fine, but you being a jerk to me isn't going to cut it.

  • Why stop carrying the Guyot instead of the cheap bottle

  • Great video dude! I like the minimalist approach. Too many people carry too junk out there.

  • Sould i use a zippo for a fire starter?

  • @MonsterAmpRedbull13 Not if you want to rely on it if it gets wet, you run out of fuel, or you forget to refill it right before you go out & it's empty when you need it, ect. Now, paired with a backup firesteel or something like that it can be a great "luxury" primary firestarter. I'm actually planning to use my slim that way in the kit I'm building. This said, with a butane insert you gain water resistance (YMMV) and reliability, but a firesteel or magnesium block is still much more reliable.

  • how much does the pot hold? (ML, OZ, L, etc.)

  • @wildernessoutfitters I remember hearing you say on Dual Survival if you cant think of three different uses for an item it is not worth having. When it comes to the items past the 5 C's does this logic apply? Thank you much for the advice!

  • Eyebolt in the vice grips, love it.

  • When you have to handle business, do you just pull over near a tree, unload and keep moving? Or do you have any kind of restroom routine or method? And this question goes for anyone (anyone can answer or throw their advice or methods.)

  • Okay, I know this is irrelevant to the point of these videos (which I love,) but what is the song you use in the intro and in the photo montages. I love that acoustic track.

  • Great video

  • What label is the axe ?

  • You are a AWESOME teacher!!! Thank you for all the videos.. :)

  • No food or firstaid kit ?

  • @jeriwade123 Between, Cordage, a needle, bandanna, and duct tape your first aid should be covered. I will most often just carry a 32 oz bottle of trail mix that is about 2 days of food and catch or harvest the rest.

  • @wildernessoutfitters yess sir! this is how its done! when training my cadets i take a small pack with hardly anything in it like you! but its not the amount of stuff i have but how i use it that teaches them, i teach survival skills and bush craft when i get the chance but all im supose to teach is maps and compass! :P gotta love extra knowledge! you my friend are a good man! and a great teacher have a good one sir!

  • @wildernessoutfitters where do you keep your axe?

  • @wildernessoutfitters How about antibiotics and other meds?

  • @jeriwade123 How you to learn to truly survive? or overcome a situation if you dont learn to "Make Do"

  • Cheaper than dert fukin YEEHAW

  • Those packs are really tough. They are heavy though to the point where it can be a limiting factor as to how much supplies you can carry. Still they are VERY tough. I borrowed my brother's a while back and now I want one for myself. Everyone should get a couple since they are so cheap right now.

  • where did u get that bag from? and whats the name of it.

  • Comment removed

  • @imabeast990 u can look up swiss mountain rucksack on google for 30 bucks i hope this helps all you guys asking were you get this pack

  • @ryanisthebeast thank u

  • @imabeast990 no prob

  • come on folks; where can you get that swedish pack for less than 20 bucks?

  • Where can the bag be purchased online?

  • hey dave, i just wondered why you never use tents? dont you think it`s a good thing to carry?? or is it because of the weight??? please answer me. by the way i`m a big fan!!

  • Just picked up that exact bag at a gun show for $10.00 and couldn't be happier with it. Thanks allot Dave it wouldn't have caught my eye if I hadn't seen this.

  • Hi Dave. comments like your response here just make me chuckle out loud. Brother , I always get a real kick out of your sense of humor amigo :-)

Food over-rated ?? LOL. I was just thinking about me in contrast, when I would go out backpacking for even a few days.At times I was carrying very little else -- but the food?? I had 2 pounds of fruit trail mix and made steaks, baked potatoes, roasted turkey, udon noodles and curry noodles with pork chop. Maybe that's why I'm fat now ha ha

  • no hygen kit?

  • Where is the five liter water proof bag sold?

  • Always good to see a nice, lightweight system. 70lb packs are no fun, and are usually overkill.

  • Hey Dave, What kind of tarp is that exactly? Name or brand? Where can I get one?

  • @TheSouthernsurvivor - you can get silnylon 2nds at $6.30 per yard from a place like Quest Outfitters. That's the cheapest option.

Maccat and Mountain Laurel Designs make good prefab tarps.

  • Hey Dave what size is your MSR cook pot? Is it the 750ml or the 1.1L

  • What about a general med kit(

  • Glad you are back. Nice pack, and waterproof bag. I know you don't mention brand names to advertise them, but would love if you lited contents in the information section. I have to watch the video again now to get the name of those 2 bags.lol.

  • What about possible extra clothing?

  • I can't find that pack.

  • 5/5 thnx

  • Hi Dave;

Thanks again for sharing your wisdom and skills. You have said the same as Lofty Wiseman the last time that I was talking with him at his home.

Now I know that I need to reduce my pack.

    Thanks again

  • where can i get a silicone nylon bivy bag? and how much lighter than gortex are they? can anyone help?? thanks

  • the pressure grip pliers modification is quite interesting and useful thx for the tip.

  • I'm headed for the jungles of Thailand. What would be good or available to trap?

  • Awesome as always. Might I submit a few humble thoughts?

Victorinox Swisstool Spirit model. I am a multitool junkie and find it the best I have seen for weight, compactness, quality and usefulness.

I had one of those Swiss Army surplus bags a while back ditched it - its heavy.

Can't wait for the new season of DS! Loved it when you got that alligator. Run with the big dogs or stay on the porch. Awesome. You should be doing beer commercials in your spare time.

  • now that backpack with the stuff the u Carry in it would it sink like a rock or would u be able to swim with it on

  • thats very true what works for some people might not be for others. cant wait to see new episodes of Duel Survival you and Cody have totally inspired me to build my own kit that i carry every day with me, also one thing i carry now is the pocket fishing rod. i built one of my own . i noticed you didn't have yours in the kit. guess you just use the bank line eh? i am going to be looking in to that next. Thanks Dave!

  • For those of you looking for this pack on cheaperthandirt... you won't find it. If you're looking for a good cheap bag, search ebay for a medium sized Alice Pack. They can be had for around $15. Search YouTube for a medium Alice Pack to check it out.

  • why a pair of vice grips? I mean if you've got a multi-tool, what's the point? (I'm sure there's probably a very good reason I'm not aware of)

  • Comment removed

  • Oh, OK, I just saw another video with more of the vice-grips uses explained. I think I get it now... Very cool saw trick by the way! "Awe-and then-some" man!!!

  • How much snow do you guys have now?

  • Great video!

And I have to commend you in Dual Survival show, you are great!

    5 stars :)

  • Dave:When is the pathfinder scout coming out might be interested

  • I use the EXACT same ruck sack, but for the motorcycle since it is waterproof and keeps my stuff dry every time. I found that the thick leather back rest, while it keeps things from poking your back and keeps you from sweating, it will press hard on your back and gets uncomfortable after a little while. Nothing beats it for keeping things dry though!

  • it is funny to see you on dual survival with cody and here alone busy with kits.

  • Have you seen the Life Saver Bottle ?

I have that on my kit, sterile drinking water in seconds ....

  • As a backpacker I am surprised by the vice grips. I was not expecting that. the rest of your kit I have tried. my favorite cook system is the all aluminum german canteen with canteen cup. even the cap is made of metal. I beat the hell out of mine but I like it. It has character. I hammock camp and you would be interested to know the best secret to winter hammock camping is the modular sleep system and putting the poncho liner under you. warmth without hauling a heavy under quilt.

  • Hey Dave, great to see you on utube again. I was wondering if you could make a short video on the items that you carry on your EDC and why you carry them?

  • Great vid once again Dave, Need to get myself one of those Swiss packs

  • thats a nice kit. usually if you remember k.i.s.s it works out for most anything

  • Hello Dave! I usually carry at least 2 military canteens with me cause it´s too hot in Brazil where I am! Seeing you carrying just that botlle for water makes me wonder if you wouldnt consider taking an extra water container, unless, of course, water is available more abundantly! Anyways It´s a pleasure to be able to learn from you again through YT! Im glad you were able to work it out with them discovery guys! Needless to say I love your videos brother! God bless you (and Cody)!

  • hey dave my friend and i are going to survive for 3-5 day. would this be good to surive for this amount days. and would all of these supplies be at big 5 because i already have the tarp and sleeping bag.

  • dave where do you get that bankline, ive heard some say walmart but i cant find it anywhere. is there a brand name for the stuff you use?

  • @mattussr , Try searching on Google for either Mason Line, or Seine Twine. Hope this helps because I was there a few days ago myself and just ordered some online as I live in the middle of nowhere.

  • I've had that same kind of rucksack over 15 years now. I always thought that is swiss, not swedish. Anyway, it's a very good choise to wet environments and weathers.

  • Which size MSR pot are you running? It looks like the smallest or next to smallest. Thanks again for all your videos!

  • Nice idea's Dave thanks. By the way you didn't mention anything about the tape that was on the side of your pack. But great video, you've given me some ideas on my own pack.

  • I have to say that the part I liked best was the fact that you have changed to the bank line instead of a lot of para cord. The reason is because that is what I carry. I started carrying it cause It was cheaper but I became attached to it. I buy the 200 and somthing lbs test trot line that will not rot. Its nice knowing that we carry the same thing.

  • Wow, that safety pin doesn seem "safe" at all, my god that big, you can pin a boar to the ground with that.

Wary awesome pack and gear, good to see that, helps making own kit. Thank You Dave!

  • where can you find where the packs .

  • where can you find where the packs

  • Dude ohio, nice place

  • what size is ur pot dave

  • I want that Swedish pack so bad! Can't find it anywhere, mostly out of stock or very pricey. Reply me if you have a link for the pack.

  • @GhillieNova $19.95 at armysurpluswarehouse

  • @secretsquirrell13 Bull! Didn't see it!

  • @secretsquirrell13 Bull, Didn't see it

  • @ScarRebel its there dude im fixing to get one as we speak.

  • @secretsquirrell13 post link bro, I am looking right now and don't see it

  • No medical emergency kit?

  • @daxbr Cotton Bandanna, Duct Tape, and Cordage! Thats all you need bro!

  • @wildernessoutfitters

Don't forget the herbal identification and familiarity skills you've honed over the years. Without those? Bring some pills if you can.

  • @wildernessoutfitters

Don't forget the herbal identification and familiarity skills you've honed over the years. Without those? Bring some pills if you can.

Kudos on a 20 lb bush pack WITH an axe Dave.

  • @wildernessoutfitters I would agree with that to a point, but the only thing I would say is some kind of disinfectant, an infection gone wrong can kill you, so just something to initially clean the wound is all you need long as you watch it after that, could always use boiled water filtered through your bandana or hell if it come to it cauterizing it, but some basic disinfectant will do you good

  • @wildernessoutfitters and some pain killers

  • @daxbr poplar trees man. natures aspirin.

  • @daxbr There is plenty of plants that can come in handy for med purposes.

  • If anyone was wondering where to find the mountain bag they have some on Sportsmansguide. There sold out but getting more soon. Just type in Swiss Rucksacks

  • does the bank line work well for bow drill fires?

  • Great stuff. Are you planning to release a Kindle version of your book? Thanks

  • wheres your food ?

  • @goundry09 Food is over rated LOL! I generally carry only 32oz Trail Mix and collect or kill the rest bro to be honest!

  • @goundry09

Your food is in the woods,

A rabbit, dear of anny other animal.

Not only animals, you also can eat plants enz.

so thats the food that he eats.

  • awesome loadout!! keep it up brother!!

  • Nice to see you back here, Dave!

  • Haven't been to YouTube that much past few weeks and just discovered your back Dave. Good to hear, keep up the good work on Discovery and YouTube!

  • excellent to see how your kit has changed over the years, not by much still a lot of the essentials but, also the small bits and pieces that keep your essentials in good working order ,great update Dave, thanks Sir

  • dave- you are the wisest man i have ever heard speak.

  • canu get those packs at cheaper thn dirt wannna get some for xmas presents for the cousins

  • Cool vid man, great to have you back!!

  • Great vid Dave! just curious as to why you don't use the deluth pathfinder backpack? is it not water resistant enough for winter trekking? or were you just showing options? I really like the Pathfinder pack.thanks

  • at the beggining you said five seasons

  • @MrPLR11 5 C's Brother!

  • @MrPLR11 the fifth season is outer space.

  • at the beginning you said five seasons

  • Thanks for the loom at some good gear although I have heard the silva compasses nowadays aren't what they used to be.
