As Jackson Browne said about him "Dan Fogelberg is an Angel" That is so true. No one but an angel could write and sing the lyrics and songs that he does. Such an incredible man.
I played this song at a pub at a place called Tingoora not to far from where I live. I won some money, but I must say I did not deserve it, after listening to this brilliant artist.
Fools Gold was a band that backed up Dan. You can hear Dan and FG around YT land. It's generally under Ebbetts Field. A live performance that was recorded. I had the fortunate to download when they rebroadcasted it after 35 years. Dan introduces FG as his band. It would make total sense that they do Fogelberg! This is one of my favorite songs from Captured Angel, Dan performed this live which is one the Greetings From the West CD, 1990, the best live performance of this song.
I went and saw Dan play in Houston a couple of times in the 70's and once in Austin at the Backyard in 80's. Fools Gold opened and backed Dan up in the late 70's. That was the best concert. He was more acoustic than electric and they added electic to the show, I enjoyed that show a lot.
Thanks for everyone visiting this site! It's fall and it's time for this song....I wish I had time to fix the video...miss Dan and just came back from CO and have been listening to John Denver too...hard to believe Dan is gone - listened to Netherlands while in the Rockies
What a memory! I used to do this song about 25 years ago. Talked with a fellow guitar player at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn last Thursday, Turns out we ar4e both fans. End result: I'll be performing this song next Sunday at Molly's.
I prefer concert version of this song, which is much slower, more emotional, with much more Dan's guitar and his singing @ the first place.
I like songs which he has called "cinematic", means telling some stories, sometimes which had happened in real life, like "Tucson, Arizona (Gazette)" or "Windows&Walls".
I love his LP "Windows and Walls" which is the best one.
This is my favorite Dan Fogelberg song. Brings back alot of nice memories and always makes me feel good, listening. It's one of those you rarely hear (unless you have the album.) Thanks so much for posting it!
This song is sad for me. So sad. So beautiful. So lonely. Later, I think, came "Please come to Boston" Dave Loggins another sweet sad longing. This song always comes to mind when I am missing Yosemite, and when this song comes to mind I always miss Yosemite and many other people and places in my life. He's singing in heaven now and knows more than us all.
Love this whole album!! album--I'm showing my age. I just read an interview he did and he said of all his albums he did - this is the one he wished he could take back and redo. It was made at a time when his dad was sick and he was going from the hospital to a studio. He said he was not happy with the sound/song quality as they were initially done as demo's.. I thought it was interesting as I always liked this album.. esp. "next time" thanks for the video!
I agree - I wouldn't want him to change this album at all - it's very "pure" Next Time is another favorite, but as you said, I like the entire album - Souveniers, Captured Angel.
This song always reminds me of the yearning for love once had, and then gone; but the strokes of color and texture this song paints in the mind are a perfect example of what seperates Dan as an artist and a musician. He felt it and sang it in a unique style that may never be replicated. I feel sorry for those who never realized the magic for themselves, even though they heard his songs many times, they never listened.
Saw your video playing another of my favorites, Stars. I loved DF, and it is nice to see so many others loved him too, especially his old stuff. Nothing like it.
Thanks. That was the first song I heard by Dan and I remember we all just stopped in our tracks and said who wrote that song? It feels so good to play his songs. I'm still amazed at how many layers there are to his songs. I've heard some hundreds of times and still hear something new the next time. Great to share with so many fine people.
This song is absolutely beautiful. It is one of my all time favorite songs. It also reminds me of love lost yet the yearning and memories that remain.
The end of October is so beautiful and crisp but also sad. He really captured both the sadness and beauty of not only the season but the sad lost we must endure.
Rest in Peace ,Dan Folgelberg, you will be missed.
Wow! well said. you too have that gift...I know what you mean: I feel sorry for those who missed it, too. He cannot be compared to anyone he is the one and only. He was set apart, yes...
Thank you for the compliment as well. From such a heavy heart I was carrying at the time came something I hope Dan appeciated...after all, I learned from the master!
My sister lives in Tennessee, near the Cumberland river, and every time I drive down to see her , I play this song. It is one of my favorites. I think Dan used to live near River Road in Nashville somewhere near where I drive. Nancy B
This was one of my all-time favorite songs. It's hard to pick.
I was lucky enough to see Dan Fogelberg in 1980-81 in Ann Arbor Michigan. He was incredible. He played so long, virtually a one-man show. When his voice broke, he actually apologized for being unable to sing more songs. He was wonderful! I will remember him always.
His wonderful music stands for itself. On his website someone wrote "it is hard to imagine heaven, without Dan there". So very true. To the Morning (from Home Free) may very well be the most beautiful song ever written and recorded...if you have not listened to it, do. Dan wrote and recorded it at either 17 or 18 yrs old...what a magical talent
Stars is my favorite from Home Free, then To the Morning. But Souveniers is still my favorite - I have The Reach on right now. I haven't listened to Captured Angel in ages, and have been playing that too since his departure. I love his first five albums, and I am fortunate that I saw him in a small setting after its release, and heard all the songs from his first three albums. That will be my most treasured memory.
So beautiful Fallman. It was a nice x-mas gift to get today. This song was one of my favorites. And very loving images. I hope you're doing okay and having a peaceful x-mas. Yours and everyone's Dan postings have helped bring some comfort to us. He won't be forgotten. BB in FL
I didn't have time to put enough pictures, but I just wanted to post one of my favorites too. Thanks, and it's nice to connect with others. Hope you had a peaceful Christmas,

Where is the wisdom to bring back the vision we've lost
Can we gaze with the wonder of children into the deafening night
Has it gotten so dark that we cannot remember the light
When you sleep on the ground with the stars in your face
"You can feel the full length of the beauty and grace
In the wild places man is an unwelcome guest
But it's here that i'm found and it's here i feel blessed" Wild Places
