:-) I know what you mean! I still don't know if it was fire lanterns, but I can say this much...if the one we saw on the 4th and the 7 or 8 that we saw later that week over 512 was in fact lanterns...they were huge! In any case, it was really cool to watch.
I watched some videos on the releasing of fire lanterns. None that I saw flew in a perfect linear direction. They seemed to float and bob with the wind.
I have to say that I really don't know what it was, but I'm not convinced it's a fire lantern as of yet.
I thought that as well, but my kids and me could see it pretty clearly and it didn't look like one to us. Also, if it was it had to be at least the size of a small car.
My friend and I saw 7 or 8 of them on July 8th flying in the same direction over hwy 512 in Puyallup as well. They stayed in a perfect v formation flying at the same speed. One by one they vanished.
If they were lanterns, the wind must have been perfect for them to not bob and float off from one another.
