@svalukas Just incase u dont know Barbra Walters is a reporter unlike Dolly. Thus admiration are scaled differently. Barbra W spotlighting Dolly for her fans and if you like this video the credit goes to Babra too.I didnt see any rivalry here although less to say that I luv Dolly too n watch her performing.
Dolly is awesome and a one-of-a-kind. She’s so inspirational and she’s someone who helps me a lot with getting through life. If I’m feeling down and out I always think of Dolly and listen to her music and she helps me get through all the bad and focus on the positive. But Barbara was so rude, so negative throughout all her questions, but Dolly comes back and turns something negative into something positive. It be nice if everyone had an outlook on life just as Dolly does.
there you see that in 1977 it wasent that glamarous at all..look at it now...totally different, normally i thought she would get her own bus...but thats the dolly i know no extra treatment!
I'd say she knew what she was doing...became a superstar...stayed true to herself...made a lot more money, could walk in anywhere and people would know her....
Uppity People are surprised when so-called "hillbilllies" can have all their teeth, be well spoken, and have talent that goes on for miles. Dolly represents well !
Why is everyone hating on Barbara Walters? So immature, leave her alone. Whether you like it or not, Walters is an icon in her own right--she's done a lot of trailblazing.
Shes such an intelligent, talented and beautiful person, inside and out. A good role model for anyone. I have never been into country music but I have always loved Dolly. Shes so classy but doesnt take herself too seriously and even though we dont know her personally you can just tell that shes a great and genuine person.
This interview first aired in December 1977, just as "Here You Come Again" was reaching the top ten on the pop charts, so the timing couldn't have been better. Millions of people who'd never heard of Dolly before were seeing this just as they were hearing her on their radios for the first time. I agree with posters below, Barbara Walter comes off as a haughty bitch here, but she has subsequently disclosed her tremendous admiration for Dolly, so I think she was just....
(cont.)...trying to voice (what she perceived as) public opinion of those who'd never heard much of Dolly and only knew her for her wigs and her boobs and her hillbilly voice, to give Dolly a chance to explain and show who she was. I don't think she was trying intentionally to be condescending.
Walters just has no sense of humor and no charm - Dolly unintentionally makes her look worse, because Dolly is so laid back and adorable - and confident. Walters has never learned to lighten up, perhaps thinking she had to be tough in a man's game. She would have done well to take notes from Dolly on how you can be the best and not be an icicle. Oh, and Dolly is stunningly beautiful here, to boot.
Walters comes off like snob and Dolly shows how truly magnificent she is in her honesty and graciousness.
Walters was implying and probing the route that Dolly was demeaning herself by her appearance. But when pushed you can see how secure and powerful Dolly was even back in 77 and knew precisely what she was doing.
she is so speaking sown to dolly! what a bitch. i love the way dolly doesnt let it get to her though & always gives it straight back to her with an answer in an unirritated way :-) she keeps her cool because thats just the person she is. thats how shes got so far in life.
Great interview! Dolly is very grounded, and she did become a SuperStar! Loved around the world. I have two all-time favorite singers: Dolly and Olivia. Can't get better than they. 5 Stars!
dolly is infinitely more sophisticated, talented and intelligent than that ugly tainted new york hag. funny how it just blasts out of the interview almost 40 years later.
I remember watching this years ago, My mother turned me onto Dolly probably back in the early 70's. (she probably regrets it now) and God, Bless her for that.
Wow! I remember this was the first time seeing Dolly on TV after I became a fan (this was at the time she released "Here You Come Again"). I was just a kid, but I was so impressed with her. Barbara Walters was impressed too ...
Her dreams came true then, because she really is a super star now. She's an icon! And I find through experience that everyone always has something nice to say about Dolly....Dolly everyone loves you!
Great Post Kvn!! I loved it. Growing up in Nashville, she is certainly no stranger to me, but thanks to some of her very loyal friends, you and dollyaddict, I get to see the real her. I guess I always took her for granted. She coined it best when she wrote," Dont judge me by the cover, cause Im a real good book." I think we can safetly say, she achieved the international stardom she set out for. WAY to GO DOLLY! Tennessee is proud of you!!
I love Dolly and I love how honest she always is in interviews.
One question - has Barbara Walters had a stroke or too much plastic surgery? When she talks her mouth hardly moves and she has no expression what so ever!
I will just never stop falling in love with this incredibly talented, tender, charismatic, intelligent, humble, fabulous human being - she is truly exceptional and so damn beautiful - what a butterfly x
Thanks for posting. This is great, and I remember when Dolly was starting to hit it big - her attitude and confidence is really what sold me as a fan. Listen to the words she has to say about becoming a superstar. Boy - she certainly followed through with her plan. What a shrewd business person! Awesome Dolly! You made it happen!
I remember watching this when I was pretty young ('77 so I was 8 or 9) and thinking how exciting it was that Dolly from the Porter Wagoner show was on Barbara Walters!! It's pretty cool to have had Dolly around since I was little and she just keeps going and getting better all the time.
She is so smart...and looks like Emily Maynard, the next Bachelorette!
