  • by arching the back you recruit more of the lower pec into the lift by making your body closer to a decline bench position. look at how much weight you put up in decline bench compared to flat bench.... thats why if your struggling with a rep you toss up your back and pound that sucker out.

  • @2kamakashi2 That is not correct. the barbell 45 + four plates of 45 pounds + two plates of 25 pounds + two plates of 10 pounds = 295 pounds. She is pretty strong .... if she can run as well she can play high school football in Division IIA district.

  • @nvTrizzle I know I dont arch my back. I even try to push them into the bench. Not sure if that is a correct form or technique but I know if i arch my back it hurts as hell.

  • @tshirttime84 Well it depends on what your wanting to do. if you want more weight you arch your back and push with your legs, like a power lifter. If your lifting just for the look you can bench prison style or without using an arch

  • @nvTrizzle ah didnt know that. Weight is not important for me, I know anyone can get a good looking body with a lower weight. So I rather have a good form and technique and lower weight because I already have shoulder problems and I dont want to get injured by adding too much weight.

    Actually if you google Mark Rippetoe videos on youtube, you'll find out that your suppose to have an arch, enough to let a hand slip through, although he says not to let your ass lift off the bench, to each there own.

  • @iLyRetro Not really, arching you back is a common power lifting technique for the bench press. And there's no downward pressure on the spine because its a supported movement by the flat bench...

  • @strings86 There are different ways to bench. Power lifters arch their back as much as possible (however, they must keep this asses on the bench).
