haha i drive a 370z and when i went to purchase i was debating between the i135 and 370z. they are very similar and this guy is so biased against the i135 and talks about it as if its a family sedan.
I test drove both a 370z and a Rx8 before purchasing the 8 and as incredibly nice as the Z is I just simply had a preference for the 8. It didn't feel as fast in acceleration of course but the way sounds and handles was just unique to any car I had driven before. The 8 simply isn't a car for everyone because the rotary engine requires specific attention.. But the Z was an excellent car.. that Solstice just looks horrible in my opinion.. great engine in it though.
@AndroidJdm the only problem the RX8 has is its lack of power; they should of added a turbo-charged version like the efini's. The Rx7's problem is that it was too expensive and competed with Porsche boxsters rather than being an entry-level sports car

And when are magazine publications going to realize that Mazda's handling dynamics cannot be measured? The RX8 is the best handling car here. The Z is too fat, the BMW is an RWD econobox, and the Solstice is the second best.

It has a short stubby design with a bubbling greenhouse. It's small, awkwardly shaped, and weak. If it was FWD, it would be a step-up from the Civic Si.
Forgive me for not seeing how gas mileage has anything to do with reliability.

@uTubeJumpers21 RX* not used to be like that. Back in 90s it held a good place among other competitors, but here you have to look at the History of Mazda. They always made small engines . This is what Mazda stands for. It also explains why you loose power on freeway, is because the faster you go the bigger engine you need. Nissan makes 3.7l engines now which is a lot. Those cars would never emerge if not the U.S. .New Nissans are made for the U.S. market while Japs drive mazdas back home.
What the heck is wrong with people? Everyone bashes the RX8 but lets compare numbers and spec. The Mustang has a V8 pumping out 400Hp with 16city/25hwy. The RX8 has a 1.3L Rotary pumping 238hp and with 16city/ 24hwy. Both have 6speed man and both have 4 seats. However the RX8 is a Saloon car, with it's 4drs. The mustang is not, the stang has major understeer as the large V8 shoves it into corners, causing a lot of tail whip. The rotary with it's 50/50 balance does not have any of those issues.
@cozzey05 If all you want is to win is an acceleration contest take your Camry! You are clearly not into cars or driving at all so I am not going to beat on you too bad. As you mature in your enthusiasm for cars you will come to understand that acceleration is only a part of the speed equation and that the fastest car is not only the one that accelerates quickest, but also the one that carrys the highest cornering speed and brakes strongest, amongst a ton of other factors.

Check my videos before you run your mouth, my WS6 is putting down well over 400 hp and still handles pretty damn well with my suspension and sticky ass tires. 95% of racing between street cars does not involve handling...either roll races or at a drag strip. This isn't a video game, I'm talking about how these cars will actually be tested by the public. Only a few of these cars will ever be on a road course but several will race for acceleration.

On a twisty mountain road my LS1 will be more than enough to make the RX-8 owner regret his decision of buying that car. .90 on the skidpad and yet your praise it, braking isn't the best.

by the time mazda releases the new rx-9 we will have the 380z with 368 hp with similar handling than the r35, a 0-60 time of 4.4 and brake dist of 153ft. the Z car is head turning sexy, rx8 just looks dumb.
@directorPlz But the RX9 will be the size of a Miata 2,500lb with around 300hp. The 380z my have 368hp but it will be well over 3,000lb... The RX9 will be more of a drivers car and a lot more fun to drive. The 380z will be numb to drive and just one more tech car.

@2003SCT i can understand if the 1 series hatchback has a weird styling. i have 2 neighbors who have them and even if one of them has the 130i msport, its a bit weird. however I think that the coupe looks awesome. at first glance, i thought that the back looked a bit abnormal especially the L shaped lights but it takes time to get use to. the fact that some people dislike the crease at the sides clearly shows me that they know nothing about the history of bmw as the 2002(equivalent of 3) had it.

This was a very poor comparison test (135i) doesn't fit. The RX8 received horrid #'s in cornering OBV someone can't drive . They always use the Poor fuel mpg and low TQ for the RX8, as an excuse to give it a low place when it's not about MPG's it's about out put and a 1.3L N/A pumping 238 is pretty dam good. So show me any 4cyl motor getting similar #'s with no Forced Induction.
The rotary is smooth and all but it has no torque and the gas mileage of a third gen camaro. And the reason why they make such a huge specific output is because the rotary is pretty much like a two stroke engine. Less moving parts and a power stroke on each revolution nets lots of revs and high end hp but no low end torque. The 370 has power, handles great, and a big interior upgrade over the 350. Definitely the best of that group.
Well you can rule the BMW out as it looks like a shiny arsed sales reps car. The Pontiac looks cheap, the 370z and the RX8 are were its at...obviously one costs a fair bit more money than the other.
@JomesZ I live in San Diego and rarely see 370z's or 135i's. I see RX8's everywhere down here and especially solstices. The worst part is RX8 drivers always think their car is so fast until something other than a damn civic rolls up next to them. They are almost as bad as G35 coupe drivers although most RX8 drivers I see are women.

The RX8 is fantastic to drive. But it is out-dated and the DOHC competition is quickly negating the handling advantages of the RX8; its suspension just doesn't justify the power difference anymore. My 2005 still handles like a dream (and new), but its miserably slow compared to the 2010 competition. Screw the 370Z. Nissan can barely sell them and I know plenty of people who happily switched to a 5.0 Mustang. The TA and GTO are the only real Pontiacs, so I'd take the 135i out of this group.
seems like everyone now a days is producing cars to compete in the middle of the BMW models. the 370z is kinda too much of a straight up powerhouse to be in a class with a 1 series, but it gets its ass kicked against an m3, i feel like its more out of place than anything else, i mean all these other cars got little engines and small tires, the comes in with a nice 3.7L and huge ass tires, its a nice car but too out of place
The new 2011 Mustang GT would rape all those cars. It is a serious car for a much more affordable price. I went toe to toe with an M3 and was virtually identical in performance and handling.
So the 135i took second because of looks, price and a cramped back seat? Looks are subjective, the prices aren't that far apart, and the 370 has NO backseat... morons. And if we're going to talk looks, the 370z's interior looks like a boy racer's wet dream.
@GenXRanter It lost becasue that they were looking for a true sports coupe. I'm rooting for bmw too, but they were right. I would buy a 370z for pure sport not a 135i. However I'd buy the 135i over the 370z if I only have one car to use, just must more pratical with similar performance.

These 0-60 times are just a tad bit too generous for these cars. There is no way a 300hp BMW at about 3400lbs is getting to 60 in under 5 seconds unless you throw some drag radials on it.
@Ensilvanation car and driver has a certain amount of feet before they start the time for all cars on the launch so times are a little faster than from a stand still
The 370z has an ugly ass interior (steering wheel for the most) and the exterior, well, it looks like a 350z got kicked in the ass and it shrunk....It has a lot of hp but the RX8 R3 raped everyone on handling as it shows on the lane switch G meter. The R3 has 2 doors yet 4, the best interior of all four with recaro seats and blisteing coilovers....an amplified catback from the factory that gives it a good growl...the Rx8 takes the cake. Even though its short on power n drinks fuel like lemonade.
@karmahunden How did the RX8 rape everyone in handling? It pulls a worse skidpad and has the same braking as the 370Z, the only advantage is 9/10ths of a mph increase in the lane change speed. It's slightly better in handling, but hardly "raped".
@ambientflier Car&Driver did a handling comparison on October issue and RX8 ranked above GTR and M3. I was pretty surprised, but this car has an amazing handling.

The Solstice is a piece of crap car. I would take Pontiac over other American companies, but I have to speak the truth since I'm a valet and have driven this car plenty of times. Its not about horsepower. Its same as 1 turbo, the two smaller ones completely eliminate lag, and create a huge torque curve of 300ft/lb at just 1,500rpm all the way up. This engine tuned can make 400hp.

no doubt it is a good car and has the same tt engine as the 335 to make it fast in the straights but, it cannot handle as well as the 8 can. Actually none of the cars above can. handling (not to be confused with grip) is the 8s speciality and the 8s ability to 'throw its weight around' is second to none with the cars above. 135 is a good car but not as good every day driver especially on the back roads. My opinion, the handling is a fact though.
its fun to drive but, not like the 8. I have driven all kinds of cars and the 8 is the best practical car for handling than them all. mazda kept it pratical. Put on wider tires, stiffer suspension, better brake pads, and better sway bars and the 8 will handle as good if not better than vipers and vettes. Bmws are great cars too :)

@2003SCT i can understand if the 1 series hatchback has a weird styling. i have 2 neighbors who have them and even if one of them has the 130i msport, its a bit weird. however I think that the coupe looks awesome. at first glance, i thought that the back looked a bit abnormal especially the L shaped lights but it takes time to get use to. the fact that some people dislike the crease at the sides clearly shows me that they know nothing about the history of bmw as the 2002(equivalent of 3) had it.

This was a very poor comparison test (135i) doesn't fit. The RX8 received horrid #'s in cornering OBV someone can't drive . They always use the Poor fuel mpg and low TQ for the RX8, as an excuse to give it a low place when it's not about MPG's it's about out put and a 1.3L N/A pumping 238 is pretty dam good. So show me any 4cyl motor getting similar #'s with no Forced Induction.

The rotary is smooth and all but it has no torque and the gas mileage of a third gen camaro. And the reason why they make such a huge specific output is because the rotary is pretty much like a two stroke engine. Less moving parts and a power stroke on each revolution nets lots of revs and high end hp but no low end torque. The 370 has power, handles great, and a big interior upgrade over the 350. Definitely the best of that group.

The worst part is RX8 drivers always think their car is so fast until something other than a damn civic rolls up next to them. They are almost as bad as G35 coupe drivers although most RX8 drivers I see are women.

The RX8 is fantastic to drive. But it is out-dated and the DOHC competition is quickly negating the handling advantages of the RX8; its suspension just doesn't justify the power difference anymore. My 2005 still handles like a dream (and new), but its miserably slow compared to the 2010 competition. Screw the 370Z. Nissan can barely sell them and I know plenty of people who happily switched to a 5.0 Mustang. The TA and GTO are the only real Pontiacs, so I'd take the 135i out of this group.

seems like everyone now a days is producing cars to compete in the middle of the BMW models. the 370z is kinda too much of a straight up powerhouse to be in a class with a 1 series, but it gets its ass kicked against an m3, i feel like its more out of place than anything else, i mean all these other cars got little engines and small tires, the comes in with a nice 3.7L and huge ass tires, its a nice car but too out of place

These 0-60 times are just a tad bit too generous for these cars. There is no way a 300hp BMW at about 3400lbs is getting to 60 in under 5 seconds unless you throw some drag radials on it.

The 370z has an ugly ass interior (steering wheel for the most) and the exterior, well, it looks like a 350z got kicked in the ass and it shrunk....It has a lot of hp but the RX8 R3 raped everyone on handling as it shows on the lane switch G meter. The R3 has 2 doors yet 4, the best interior of all four with recaro seats and blisteing coilovers....an amplified catback from the factory that gives it a good growl...the Rx8 takes the cake. Even though its short on power n drinks fuel like lemonade.

Its not about horsepower. Its same as 1 turbo, the two smaller ones completely eliminate lag, and create a huge torque curve of 300ft/lb at just 1,500rpm all the way up. This engine tuned can make 400hp.

no doubt it is a good car and has the same tt engine as the 335 to make it fast in the straights but, it cannot handle as well as the 8 can. Actually none of the cars above can. handling (not to be confused with grip) is the 8s speciality and the 8s ability to 'throw its weight around' is second to none with the cars above. 135 is a good car but not as good every day driver especially on the back roads. My opinion, the handling is a fact though.

its fun to drive but, not like the 8. I have driven all kinds of cars and the 8 is the best practical car for handling than them all. mazda kept it pratical. Put on wider tires, stiffer suspension, better brake pads, and better sway bars and the 8 will handle as good if not better than vipers and vettes. Bmws are great cars too :)
