  • For the people who don't under stand the particular absinthe being showcased :This absinthe is referred to as a"La blue" ,these absinthes don't have the traditional green color ,this particular absinthe is Kubler's Absinthe Suisse ,a brand that hales from Switzerland where during the original bans of absinthe, clandestine production in the swiss countryside produced these types of absinthe . Maybe not quite as complex as their "verte"or green counterparts, still a good absinthe to give a try.

  • What?! No Green Faerrie?!!!

  • It suppose to be green! whatsup with that?! is your absinthe counterfit?

  • @Revelde20 If it hasn't been colored with artificial dyes, the green color of absinthe comes from the chlorophyl of the macerated herbs that have been steeping in the solution. Some distillers do it a little differently.

  • Good video, but they pour the water way too fast. I understand why, but you really need to do it one drop at a time, and about 1.5 drops every second.

  • lol WRONG absinthe isnt a liqueur LOL

  • @weedysmyplant what Is it then if its not a Liqueur

  • @KillerFreaks its a spirit cause it doesn't already have sugar in it

  • @KillerFreaks It's a liquor. Not the same thing. Liqueurs are bottled with sugar.

@Revelde20 Real absinthe is supposed to be green OR uncoloured OR red (very rare).

  • @KillerFreaks It's actually a spirit, since it's not bottled with added sugar.

  • @weedysmyplant ikr its a spirit XD

  • Anyone notice that his Absinthe isn't green?

  • @Dimdez absinthe comes in two colors, 'blanche' which is clear and 'verte' which is green

  • That's not how I make mine- I soak the sugar in absinthe and set fire to it... several times.

  • absinthe is green am i right?

  • @zodist: hi I've been wanting to try absinthe for a while now and I've found a place that sells it they do two kinds the fist one is 75% but I cbt remember the name and the other is Hapsburg super de-luxe 85%. The thing is I dnt know which to get aswell as the alcohol % I want good flavour from it. So u know if the Hapsburg is any good? R.A.S.A.P PLEASE :)

  • You don't mix it with sugar, that a no no.Just slowing pour the icy cold water to it and drink it slowly to enjoy the taste.Cheers

  • @Zodist there absinthe is not traditional either

  • @obamaslilbro Yeah i know but my favourite is Koruna Absinthe in which it has wormwood at the bottom of the bottle. Some say that once you finish the bottle dry the worm wood in the sun for a few hours and smoke it.Sadly i don't smoke,i drink.Cheers

  • interesting

  • i just bought some today.... im not gona drink it till i have the right glasses and a dropper.

  • so does absinthe really get you to see the green man or is it just bullshit its caused by just getting drunk?

  • @gus361 yea that's worked well in the past....

  • noooooo dont stir it!!!!!!! i mean... whatever personal preference......... but i wouldn't.......

  • legend has it that this absynth drink is quite potent,my kinda drink!

  • real absinthe gets its color from chlorophyll, thus it should have a light peridot color. the only exception is clear blanches and red hibiscus-flavored rouges.

The "Fire ritual" is not in any way traditional. It was created in the nineties by Czech fauxsinthe makers for two reasons:

    1) By fabricating a bizarre ritual and playing up the mystique, it makes tourists want to buy it.

    2) Most Czech fauxsinths taste absolutely terrible. By burning the sugar, it masks the foul flavor of the drink.

  • Should the sugar not burn? Nevertheless, the traditional method differently functions. One takes a sugar cube and places him on a spoon. Then one pours the absinthe about the sugar. Afterwards one lights the sugar so that he caramelises. To good one last one wipes off the absinthe with ice-cold water.

  • i got 3 bottles of absinthe: green, red, black ..

  • Absinthe has a greenblue collor..

  • That's wrong. Not every Absinthe has this colour!

  • Thats true, but a good Absinthe has that collor.

  • Absinthe Blanche, very good absinthe still.

  • Hm. After my own experience I find the collored Absinthe the best.

But hey! Everyone has their own taste! :D

  • nonono! its a spirit :(

  • French Absinthe is green since they use many herbs for coloring. Swiss absinthe however is clear since they use the herbs in the distillation process. The best absinthe in the world is clear and hails from Switzerland.

  • Great to see another absinthe enthusiast here! Though to clarify, not all Swiss absinthe is clear, there are both blanche and verte (clear and green) coming out of both countries. :)

  • I stand corrected. I was unaware that there was a Swiss Verte.

  • One of the first Swiss Vertes was Duplais Verte, which is finally available in the US. Give it a try sometime, you can really appreciate the high-grade of herbs from Switzerland, everything is incredibly full flavoured and clean! Opaline is another great one, it is from the producer of La Clandestine blanche!

I don't blame you for being under the impression that Switzerland only produces blanche absinthes, though. There are not many vertes and it is a very common mistake even in newspapers.

  • You learn something new every day :D

  • some companies make them different colour to represent different percentages of alcohole i thought too, like Diable Noir Absinthe

    85% = black

50% i thinks blue etc. etc.

  • TO clarify sugar was a sign of status hence not everyone could afford to have sugar. I myself well use sugar on occasion I however do prefer absinthe without. The sugar does help enhance some flavors found in absinthe, but again in the late 1800's sugar cubes was used by the higher status of society since they had the money for it.

  • Buying a metal funnel called a brouille will save you a hell of a lot of hassle preparing it, especially as a bartender. I bought glass ones from alandia, but they broke too easily. The metal one will last me forever, and there's no reason not to try it.

  • Bravo! A wonderfully informative and ACCURATE absinthe educational video. Cheers!

  • Thanks!

  • Why didn't you pour some absynth over the sugar cube and light it? Thats what a bartender did in New Orleans where I drank this. Then she poured water over what was left of the sugar cube. (DID NOT LIGHT THE DRINK ITSELF)

  • the girl is COOL

  • i prefer the bohemian ritual.

  • Trust me, your drink will take a heck of a lot better without burnt sugar!

  • yea right. i tried it without burning (though it doesnt look as cool as with burning^^) and it tastes a lot better

  • she's hot :D

  • lol yea xD

  • you are all wooses! go get some black absinthe......thats the real shizzle!

  • No, that's the cheap, artificial wormwood vodka imitation...

  • look closer at the bottle it's Kubler 53 a swiss style absinthe from Switzerland not the best, but a traditional absinthe nontheless.

  • umm that not the green fairy thats a pastis its a french acoholic drink thats bs your suposed to light the sugar on fire

  • i wonder why its not green *cough FDA cough* thats tottal bs. i want a high quality real and not some artificial crap into the drink.

  • Learn your shit. Its called absinthe blanche. the only reason green absinthe is green is because it is put through a second natural coloration process after the initial distillation. The blanches are traditionally from switzerland, while the vertes (green) are french. There is also red absinthe

  • wow and this is coming from a person with a foul s/n... listaind the reason why i called it arificial crap is because it not the true absinthe that you can get in the bars of europe where the precent is like 45%-85% ABV and i rather have the real thing and not some FDA controlled shit.

  • absynthe is green lol.

Hey girl you wanna do it nice and slow .

    Shes hot.

  • Absinthe is traditionally a green colour. Who took the green out of it?... The FDA? Yeah, Leah is hot! Keep shaking those cocktails babe!!

  • Swiss style absinthe (which is what they must be using) is clear like that. French and Czech styles are the more iconic green color. The FDA has nothing to do with it.

  • Lighting anything on fire near absinthe is incredibly dangerous. You can accomplish the same thing without the fire. For that matter, just use water and forget the sugar.

  • dude, this way, is the traditional french way of preparing absinthe. .. and like the other dude said, the fire is for americans,

  • thats how i did do it!!!

  • this is the traditional way, the fire stuff was added to impress american tourists who couldnt get absinth in the states in the time it was forbidden there... caramelizing the sugar messes the flavor up really badly, and shouldnt never be done with a good absinth...

  • Leah is fucking hot!

  • Lighting the drink destroys the flavour of the absinthe.

Unless you really enjoy the actual flavour, and would be willing to spend a load of money on a bottle, fire is an ingredient that isnt adviced.

  • (Didnt have enough room)

I reccomend you to buy a good Duplais Blanche or Verte they arent to expensive (29-32€) this way you get a decent understanding of what absinthe really is. It isnt some bitter green brew from hell like a lot of people think. Its a drink apreciated by a lot of people but it was misunderstood by narrowminded people a long time ago who thought it caused hallucinations. But nowadays it seems that there are still people foolish enough to believe its a sort of drugs.

  • if you have the right absithe it will fuck you up, that stuff is not even traditional green

  • the real stuff is the best drunk ever so mellow and free. I wish i could get the real stuff again,

WHoa its legal now omg. I just started the video.

  • absinthe won't fuck you up or make you cut your ear off.

  • i watched a movie called eurotrip funny movie and the absynthe was like glowing green lols and hey nice that looks yummy

  • As said by many, sugar was only used because Absinthe was the cheapest booze around, and it usually tasted somewhere between gas and piss.

The absinthe had a nice louche, though. Gotta find out wich one they used

  • Kübler. It's swiss absinthe.

  • wrong in the absinthe ritual sugar was used as a regular mix for the drink

  • absinthe was alot more bitter back then, because the balance between the herbs, espescially wormwood wasn't too good. It is not recommended to use sugar nowadays, if you have a good absinthe at least.

  • i love absinth

  • For the people wondering about the color, it's a different type of absinthe... It's a clear one. It's made with different things in short.

  • the absinthe prepared here was a swiss style La Blanc made with the same herbs as most french but, instead of using a select group of herbs for the coloring the swiss makers add those herbs in during the distilation process adding flavor but, no color this process was popular during the prohibition in switzerland as clear absinthe was easier to transport and sell then green.

  • its.not.green??

  • One method I learned is you drizzle the water until you have a smaller layer of "non-cloudy" water on top of the glass. Then you stir and may add water for taste preference.

  • its 1 part absithe to 8 paerts water...but i drink this shit that i broght back from france so mine is proboly stronger

  • obviously because he likes to do it the traditional way, and also the right way of doing it, burning it (Czech Way) is a perfect way to ruin a good glass of absinthe, you gotta learn that...

  • i took a shot just straight if this liquor once. it was nasty and burned all the way down.

  • Oh man, I love the taste :)

  • It is good to see that he chose the correct method. However, he poured the water far too quickly, it should be poured at such a rate that the sugar dissolves without the need to stir it into the absinthe/water mix.

  • she is fukin HOT!!! :D

  • Leah is so hot, my fav girl so far.

  • That's the Hollywood way of doing it.

  • It's legal now? I guess they took out the shit that makes you see the green fairy

  • Kubler and Lucid, now legal and available in the US, both contain plenty of thujone which was supposedly what made you hallucinate. In reality its not a hallucination, but rather a different type of buzz- I cant explain it more, just try it.

  • I am not a big fan of absinthe its to bitter

  • It shouldnt really be bitter unless you have a bitter or amer(those have more wormwood than normal absinthe.) If you think its bitter than add more sugar cubes or water

  • yeah lighting it up is just a misconception or something that ppl make to show off that they know nothing about absinthe preparation... or so ive heard

  • There is as many correct way's to drink something as there is drinkers. Though I think this is silly way to drink absinthe.

Good absinthe does not need anything.

    Though next recipe is good

    4 cl absinthe

    8 cl apple syrup

    8 cl vanilla yoghurt

about 5 leaves (gloves?) of basil

    mix all in blender

Can change yoghurt to vanilla soft ice cream

  • nice vid; great girl.... (my fav, she look incredible)
