I think you're really painting with a broad brush there. No matter what age, there are always people who like variety and are curious about the past. I listened to music from the 1940s in the 80s, right along with the music that was popular in the 80s. I am sure there are plenty of teenagers today who do the same. Not everyone let's popular media dictate all their programming.

The lyrics are wholesome, and reflect what most men, and a few boys do.....but the dancing has undertones of purviness on the part of the men dancers, which I think is unfair. If a woman has great body, and nice legs why shouldn't men "observe' and appreciate it?

Bob Crewe had a bigger hit with it, Andy's version was better - faster - but never reached the top ten, a pity.

An genius; Crewe. He also did the unusual score for Barbarella. Just prior to the moog synthesizer outbreak, but loaded with electronics anyway, and a lot of genres were employed; from Vivaldi to sultry nightclub blues. The vocal tracks are simply ravishing. The re-issue on CD is hard to get by, but worth the trouble.

Look 4 girl watchers on flickr, some kind of 50s voyeurism but still works when its clean and random.
