  • Makes me feel old considering I say alot of the "old" sayin's :P

    I'm from Glasgow though.

  • :) most of us British people love Scottish accent's :)

  • Wow, I enjoyed your video. You have a nice pronunciation and the English explanations are easy to understand but the "Scottish phrases" are very difficult. I probably wouldn't understand them at all. So Scottish English is very nice and easy to understand, Scottish dialect is nice too but very difficult for foreigners like me ;) Please keep your dialect and your nice Scottish English pronunciation.

  • I'm from Aberdeenshire and when I went down to East Kilbride to pick up a lorry from the main Wiseman depot the boy in the garage couldn't understand a word I was saying

  • :-) I had a smile all way through, I wich I was Scottish ;-)....

  • I think we need to recognise the difference of slang and Scots, you have a good list of words that are purely Scots that is a language and not slang. Yes wee have varying dialects of Scots from all over the country but then we have great words like glaikit or scunnered that are much better in my opinion than the standard English we are all taught at school.

  • am a pure nick and am dun in also means yer swedgered oot yer nut.

  • awesome hair!

  • seen on tv a comedy sketch 2 scots guys go into a lift which is voice activated 1st guy ilivein(11) gos on fur ages11 11 ilivein.

  • see im from the west of scotland and i would say "ma cats are deed".

its actually hilarious because i say half of these and dont think anything of it!

  • im educated now lol

  • your fickin awwwwsssssommmme

  • im giving up learning english, these accents are confusing, and ohh btw ur a pretty girl :)

  • I just noticed this: Your sweatshirt shows just the word "Like". Is that some kind of subliminal suggestion?

    ; )

  • haha, my favourite part was the old sayings! Amazing.

I often adopt a Glasgow-ish accent when I have to phone irritating people, like those who work at insurance companies. I try to have them ask me to repeat myself as many times as possible :D I'll see about uploading something in the coming days!

You (and your accent!) are breathtaking, by the way. haha :p

  • Its so weird that parts of scotland has different ways of saying things and the accent changes as well. I remember talking to a guy fae paisley and he said he was grand which meant great. We don't use that saying out this way (west lothian) also when i worked with guys from dundee i used to have to explain to them what i was saying as they use totally different words up there.

  • Glaekit - daft/stupid ;p My favourite Scots word :) That'll be me then lol. x

  • Thanks you for posting Kelly. :)

  • it's cool! i love scottish accent! thank you so much for this video!:)

  • I'm from America and I'm just fascinated by accents. Like why do different people from different parts of the world have different accents? What causes accents to be different? Even in America people from neighboring states have different accents. Why? It's very interesting when you think about it.

  • This is a fun video to watch.

  • Scotland's amazing! Love from a fellow Scot ;D <3

  • Very cool! I only knew Speak o the devil, aye, and bonnie. The rest are new to me. Still don't get what dead budgies or a dead cat has to do with your pants shrinking, ha ha.

  • @ForestRain1 It's to do with the fact that your trousers are only half way down your leg..i.e. you've outgrown them, used to quite common is school as kids were growing faster than their parents could keep them in the proper length trousers.. hence some kids would say "His trousers were at half mast" , insinuating that someone/something must have died, hence... "is your budgie dead?" or "is your cat dead?".......in other words having a dig at someone for wearing too short trousers.

  • @sidious1977 Oh, that makes sense (sort of). We in America would just say "Are you expecting a flood?"

  • i love this so much

  • sounds like a pirate

  • This is a great preparation for the classes I will have to attend in Edinburgh :D Thanks Kelly!

  • Good video

  • I love teh glasgow accent! i also love using it when in england they look at you like you are a crazed loona tick. XD

  • love this scott says dunnie ken its a very larnarshire

  • wow... I could use subtitles for that whole video. I took German in high school... I think it's easier than Scottish.

  • omg haha ur accent kicks ass lol.

  • I think I love you....

  • hahaha I laughed when you mentioned me, I totally cringed saying those words! loved thisss

  • like the one at 8:05!!

  • favourited :D

i'm from near-ish inverness and the accents aren't very strong here but i knew most of these. i always find it really interesting being reminded which words are from scotland though. one word that appears to be new-ish is the word 'hoorna' meaning 'very' or 'lots of' like

'hoorna munch' = lots of snacks

    'hoorna smashed' = very drunk

  • This was a really interesting video. I love your accent!

    <3 Kristin

  • The Scottish slang's bad?! Ah, dinae talk pish! ;)

  • Yeah, speak of the devil is pretty common. I enjoyed this quite a bit!! =)

  • i like your accent
