  • @shallaby Mozart said he didn't feel the need of working on quartets that hard because Haydn did such an excellent job. They respected eachother very much.

  • It's really good except you can hear the musicians breathing and their instruments squeaking at the rests.

  • Haydn is a genius - some of the most beautiful music ever written in my opinion!

  • This neo-classical painting has a rather long title: 'Lady Gaga orders her bedbath from late-night room service'. Ms. Germanotta is seated at the left. Sorry, but I have forgotten the artist's name. Jacques .L. David, peut etre.

  • This is a magnificent recording.

  • Great song! But what is the name of the painting?

  • :good heaven's, it has been a long day, let us rest for a moment before finishing. --

  • Thanks very much for sharing, but a Baroque paiting with a classical piece? Well, I might be wrong about the painting.

  • this quartett is very nice..one of the best from Haydn....But I like the music from Mozart more then Haydn...

  • yes, Mozart's music is very tempting. but i think Haydn was very talented in quartets more than Mozart.

  • @USBistDreck

Mozart referred to Haydn as "Pappa Haydn". Even he recognized his genius and the debt that all composers at that time had to him.

  • True. And Haydn was also one of the least self-delusional geniuses in the history of music. Haydn himself said of Mozart:

"Mozart was a truelly great musician. Friends have often flattered me with having some genius, but he was much my superior."

In a letter to Franz Rott, Haydn wrote:

  • "If only I could impress Mozart's inimitable works on the soul of every friend of music, and the souls of high personages in particular, as deeply, with the same musical understanding and with the same deep feeling, as I understand and feel them, the nations would vie with each other to possess such a jewel."

In a letter to Genzinger he confessed often dreaming about Mozart's music.

    To Mozart's father, Haydn said:

  • "Before God and as an honest man I tell you that your son is the greatest composer known to me either in person or by name: He has taste, and, furthermore, the most profound knowledge of composition."

  • *truly

  • En tout cas,il porte bien son nom...Bom

  • Wunderbares Stueck!

  • Insolence.

  • Haydn quartet are my preferred..... only Beethoven op.95 is almost exciting...

Sorry for my very poor english!

  • Mozart was inspired by many of Haydn compositions

  • Indeed. They were very good friends with each other and had a very close relationship. Haydn was essentially his mentor.

  • as opposed to Beethoven and Haydn's, as they were constantly fighting due to their differences in age and personality.

  • As was Bach. :-)

  • @davlor86 Did you know that Mozart apparently wrote twinkle twinkle little star when he was three!

  • @davlor86

He was definitely! Even though Mozart was already dead when Haydn composed this.

  • love this
