My brother was a firefighter for quite a few years. He had to leave for personal reasons. He was a volunteer, and was on call 24/7. He never missed a call in the 5 or so years he was a firefighter. When he does pass away, this song will be at his funeral. It's one song that means a lot to him, and always brings him to tears.

David worked as a firefighter/EMT for almost twenty-five years, for Reedy Creek Fire Dept, Lake Buena Vista, FL. He was forced to retire in the year 2004.

@adam9688 : i agree with you in principle...but my experience on the job has shown me that a majority of the folks who have an issue on the paid vs Volunteer debate are volunteers. A majority of the paid guys don't really mind volunteers. In fact a lot of them volunteer on their time off, and bring Big city firefighting to their volunteer departments. I say all this, keep in mind, being a volunteer Firefighter.

I lost two brothers over seas, a cousin in 9/11 and one of my brothers is a firefighter and three are cops. Everyday we wait for the phone call that all families dread. YOu may love it but I'll never forget everything you all do for us. The sacrifices you all make is a lot as is the families, I lost a uncle as a firefighter. SO just know you are heroes.

I was training and station captain, I would push my men to the point of exhaustion. I dis this so the men and women under my command knew where their breaking point was. In 13 years I never had a firefighter be seriously injured. I was asked how I could stand there and send people in and stand outside and watch, it was a simple answer. @firefighteryannik112 I think a big reason for that, and a big awakening, was 9/11. A lot of people gathered more respect for fire fighters and finally understood that it is a line of work where you do you life on the line everyday. Since then, people here in America have shown a lot more respect for fire fighters.
I have cousin's that are firefighters and I am also part of a fire dept. You never can tell if someone is comming home that night after a fire. It runs though the families minds when their love lones are out there and they are hoping and praying that they will come home.

I'm married to a retired firefighter that was forced to quit his job due to Diabetes type 1.
David worked as a firefighter/EMT for almost twenty-five years, for Reedy Creek Fire Dept, Lake Buena Vista, FL. He was forced to retire in the year 2004.
He absolutely loved his job! He was truly a firefighter through and through! He was still working as a firefighter when Sept. 11, 2001
happened!

@adam9688 any time you put on the uniform or turn out gear, you are a fire fighter. When you run into a burning building with no regard for your personal safety, you are a fire fighter. It doesn't matter if your paid or not. And for that I and the rest of America thank people like you for your service.

@adam9688 : i agree with you in principle...but my experience on the job has shown me that a majority of the folks who have an issue on the paid vs Volunteer debate are volunteers. A majority of the paid guys don't really mind volunteers. In fact a lot of them volunteer on their time off, and bring Big city firefighting to their volunteer departments. I say all this, keep in mind, being a volunteer Firefighter.

@gkopacz I think you all are heroes whether it be cops, firefighters or the military. Everything you all do is truly heroic. I lost two brothers over seas, a cousin in 9/11 and one of my brothers is a firefighter and three are cops. Everyday we wait for the phone call that all families dread. YOu may love it but I'll never forget everything you all do for us. The sacrifices you all make is a lot as is the families, I lost a uncle as a firefighter. SO just know you are heroes.

I was training and station captain, I would push my men to the point of exhaustion. I dis this so the men and women under my command knew where their breaking point was. In 13 years I never had a firefighter be seriously injured. I was asked how I could stand there and send people in and stand outside and watch, it was a simple answer. I never asked my personnel to do anything they did not feel safe doing. As a retired captain and firefighter I still have respect and admiration for the men and

@firefighteryannik112 I think a big reason for that, and a big awakening, was 9/11. A lot of people gathered more respect for fire fighters and finally understood that it is a line of work where you do you life on the line everyday. Since then, people here in America have shown a lot more respect for fire fighters.

I have cousin's that are firefighters and I am also part of a fire dept. You never can tell if someone is comming home that night after a fire. It runs though the families minds when their love lones are out there and they are hoping and praying that they will come home.
