  • omg she sits just like me O.o

  • @linegenrou so flippin what

  • I love Dick Cavett so much. I'm 26 and the interviewer's nowdays are usually so unempathetic and boring. Dick was very genuine in his questions and reactions. All of the interview's with Jimi, Janis, and Sly and many more are all proof at how cool Mr. Cavett was. Love that guy and his guests!

  • so sad to have only lived to 27...I am sure she could have spearheaded the whole lesbian movement had she had more time..

  • I love when she goes, "Noooo, nooo."

    XD

  • Janis had such a wonderfully kind face and voice. The chemistry between her and Cavett is undeniable. He was so much better than Letterman.

  • so im guessing that wasnt really coffee in that cup, huh? clever.

  • At 3.23, anyone else think he looks like Elton John?

  • JUSTIN BEIBER!!!!! AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!

  • this guy has i thing for janis check out how she walks its awesome like she dont give a fuk and so much energy

  • i feel like he knows she's high so he's just fucking with her haha

  • shes so high

  • Old school interviews allow for more wit and humour, and more

thoughtful responses. Natural questions and natural answers.

    Great stuff.

  • Is she actually high?

  • I woulda liked to hear her sing with Zeppelin.

  • @TheZepmeister wordddd!

  • Damn she's is HIGHHH

  • i love her laugh =)

she is so beautiful inside and out

  • Is she high? Or was this just her manner?

  • @MrRedFredSaid Yeah, she's high as a kite in this video

  • @mjordan1998 she probably was high. but it was so janis to be so upfront.

  • @Mollyskates yeah i know haha. i love her anyway

  • I've never seen her talk before, only sing, and what impressed me most was her gentle, soft-spoken femininity. I wasn't expecting it, but I shouldn't have been surprised.

  • I love this woman I just want to cry every time I see her - I can't believe she died a couple months later.

  • I love her Texas accent. It's so weird and earthy with her dressed so California. Janis was one of a kind for sure.

  • i agree,,,,,,,,, she will always be the BEST female singer EVER....

  • beautiful

  • "From amon-g-st the many things he says...."

  • In the 60's there was this big thing called "Generation Gap" between parents & "Babyboomers" (born between 1946 & 1964). Boomers had many sayings, among them, "Never trust anyone over 30" & "Like Father, Like Son, Like HELL!"

Although Cavett was about as cool as the 30+ generation got, you can still see he was a bit of a "square". Rock n roll was only 15 here but had changed to shock so much in that time, it hasn't changed much since. I mean Jimi would still kick ass today or can u top Janis?

  • shes so bright and beautiful

    so amazing and inspirational <3

  • my first impression, she was so homely, my 2nd impression, she was so real, my 3rd impression I love her, shes cute, real, pure, wasted but yeah whatever she was so awesome, wish i had been able to attend her concerts, cant get enough am watching all her interviews today !

  • prolly not lsd or coke. but lots of weed and benzodiazpams.. qualudes etc, valium etc...

  • She was on heavy shit. LSD (Acid), Coke, etc.... Obviously drinking was a part of it... :-)

  • i think that she didn't use LSD much,

    she is against LSD

    i think

  • @runirvana ...She was heavy into acid, heroin, and sometimes speed.

  • @benbur69 and she died 2 months later.

  • It seems as though at that point in her life she was in quite a bit of emotional pain - and obviously on something. Notice how he tried to take the attention off of her and her issues as much as possible.

  • i think she drinks

  • What an interesting contrast! Cavett so polite, witty and sort of old-fashioned and Janis so wild, emotional and intense. And nevertheless they liked each other. Clear proof that opposittes attract -at least certain kinds of opposittes.

  • @kiasmus

Dick Cavett was highly respected by a lot of artists in show business. He did some of the finest interviews with John Lennon. He was just a gentleman who respected and loved his guests. So they simply felt comfortable and opened up to him. Respect to Dick Cavett. And of course Janis, she was awesome, who cares if she was high, it's sad indeed but who wasn't back then. Her and Cavett talking together is very touching, they're not so different after all, just two good souls.

  • Wish I could have been there, To bad all the great people died so young...

  • it was really noticeable that he had her on ALL the time, and their chemistry is obvious

I heard that he made love to her after a show, but given that I think he was married, I do doubt that.

  • Some smoke-filled fools neigh in the hall

  • Pretty face by Janice

  • Dammmm.....what an angel. Its a shame who drugs have taken from us.

  • Sorry but, she was "1969.9" finished at this point.

  • No, she died October 4, 1970, Google it, it's a world of wonders. =D

  • Euhm.. you're not in the same subject.

  • This dated Aug. 3 she died Oct. 4, 1970.

  • How many times did Janice show up on this show?

  • So sad to see her starting to look bloated and sick....a bit yellow. I think Cavett is very sweet with her....he knows she's past saving at this point.

  • Clearly he "dug" her. But you could see that she really didn't want to talk and he obviously sensed that.

I don't think she was the greatest pop singer to live. Judy Garland takes that spot in my opinion. But she's near the top. Only a handful of female singers gave themselves to an audience the way those two did.

  • what the hell is up with her hair???

  • Maybe Dick should've married her. It might've saved her life, and it would've hipped him up a lot!

  • A star that burns forever in the sky.

  • Its sooo sad to know how badly her days of being alive were numbered.

SHE IS THE GREATEST FEMALE SINGER TOO EVER WALK THE EARTH.

FUCK BRITNEY SPEERS AND FUCK EVERY OTHER TALLENLESS SELL OUT WHORE WHO INFESTS THE CHATRS OF TODAY.

  • well I mean besides Judy Garland I have to agree with you

  • @mrtamberineman123 yes :o(

  • @mrtamberineman123 While I agree with you, if you're bitching about it on youtube comments you kinda missed the point of what she and the others had to say.

  • @mrtamberineman123 You're coming in a Janis video bringing all that hate, that it makes me sad. What the charts are presenting should be of no business to you and they're not meant to direct your musical influences. But more importantly there is something call respect, even for those who you dislike, and you seem to have neglected it.

I cant say if Janis would've been pleased with your comment, but i sure aint.

  • @mrtamberineman123

Edith Piaf was one of the greatest, it's stupid to say that somoene IS the greatest ! greatest compare to who, when, how ???

  • Best female singer who ever lived. Period.

  • He asked her if she was ok during a break because she was so drunk,he asked her if she was still using heroin and aske if she is trying to kill herself and she said to him(who would care) and he almost could do the show because it disturbed him so bad .

  • This is true, according to Cavett in his NYT blog. It occurred at dinner after the show.

  • Personaly i think she's kinda hot and this guy Dick Cavet is a monumental DINK!...What a fuckin' dork.

  • dink or not it seems that guy kinda" went for her"for inviting her so often.

  • he is a dork but....atleast he's not an asshole who pretends he knows the band

  • This is only 2 months before her passing. DOD 10/4/70.

  • isn't this only a few months before she died?

  • well i think Janis is here a bit drunk.....but i also love her

  • Jimi would have worn what she is wearing.

  • "Jimi gave us rainbows, and Janis took a piece of our hearts"...cant remember who said that...miss you, Pearl...you were so beautiful and your laff was amazing...RIP

  • Lol Cavett, it's obvious what the title means.

    To Boogie!

  • 2 months later she died.. :( I love her stoner laugh..

  • i think the main figure of the fab 60's was the drugs i mean she looks like amy winehouse with that hair i got mad love for janis but i cant for the life of figure out why people like janis and jimi and even james morrison were so talented but the drugs killed them well in jm's case murder but anyway these three talented never really had a chance because of the mist of the era cause we can only imagine where their lives and careers would be now
  • Haha, she was so funny

    I lole Boogie moment..!!

    Rip Janis

  • you are our PEARL-then,now,and forever...

  • perfectly stated.

  • rock+sex+alcohol+drugs+popularity=DEATH

  • tell that to the Rolling Stones...

  • i wander why? they have everything, why are they turn to drugs

  • Back then, people didn't know the danger of drugs, and did it simply for fun.

  • i agree with you

the fab sixities were a little messed up

    cause of the druggies

but it did give us some of the most weird and beautiful songs of all time and some of the coolest artists

  • the history repeat it self, people who are gifted not contented for what they achieve and still searching for something to satisfy their earthly lust so they put their

self to their own death, just recently Michael Jackson,

rest in peace, i didnt mean to offend anybody

  • the marxists planned it, they couldn't take america from without so they'd have to seduce her children from within, took prayer out of school, ushered in free love & drug experimentation along with rebelling against "the man". We're at the culmination of the sinister plan & now the new world order will be ushered in by this conditioned generation n preparation for the 1 world socialist nanny state dictatorship with zero personal freedom, a prison planet with no cities of refuge.

  • my sweet Pearl :)

  • BOOGIE :D

  • Wow...sometimes her behaviour was like a little child even if she was a very intelligent girl. I simply love the way she was during these interviews with cavett.

I think was and is actually one of the secrets of Janis. She captured the attention with always semplicity and spontaneity even if she was a part of the jet set and sometimes must did it in a spectacular way for the audience...

About the fan's tale, she look like disappointed about the cop's behaviour with her fan. ;-) Good!

    Peace.

  • she was fucking cool.. I love her!

  • well then, if KosmicJanis is correct, then Janis was quite the composed drunk!

i love her ability to laugh at herself though, @ 4:07

lol...Dick has built such great rapport with her!

i also love her pants and her whole style!

  • to the people that say she wasn't drunk ,your blind. compare it to her sober dick cavett interveiw and you'll notice the difference for sure.

  • yeh, but who cares. doesn't take an einstein nor are we going on endlessly about the obvious years later.

    dig?

  • i love her laugh ;*

  • KosmicJanis' comment below is 100% accurate. Peace.

  • The two are great together...Janis, would you care to croon another tune for us? :o))

  • she doesnt strike me as drunk AT ALL

There's a 20/20documentary that claims Joplin appeared on this show and was drunk which is why I wanted to see this clip but its clearly not true!

the legend has been twisted to suit a certain story and make it more dramatic

She's RAZOR sharp in her reactions very witty but thats a bit of a boring thing to put in a documentary - so let's just make stuff up

I dont care if she is drunk or sober but, Jeez, TELL THE TRUTH!

  • she's clearly drunk here. compare it to her other interveiws and you'll notice the attitude difference and she laughs more.

  • But the documentary sites this interview as a demonstration of how she was appearing on TV totally out of control which is why I wanted to see it - It's just an example of sensationalising a star's life for a story

of course when these biogs were written they never dreamed the actual footage would be accessable on youtube!

Now we can see for ourselves what was true and what was eggagerated to suit their version of how wasted Joplin was the whole time

    She's charm itself here!
