Man, seeing the blackout scene live was incredible!

This entire scene is beautifully crafted. You get the fun, clubby, almost quirky vibe in the beginning, you feel the tensions rise, and that "Oh shit!" kinda moment when Benny throws that first punch.

Then the lights cut off as the music intensifies. That bugs me out EVERYTIME!!! I think that is so freakin' cool how the do that!!!

"Blackout" is just a wonderful piece of music. You can really feel the dismay in the air.

And that, is what we call good musical theatre. :)

Blackout = most elements of inner city struggle, summed up in a few minutes and beautifully acted out to music. Wow! Where else can you get that? Lin Manuel! Please do a play based off of Richard Price's Clockers. Not based off the movie, but off the book. Sorry Spike, but this is pretty much set in stone. Not even Richard Price himself (co-writer of the screenplay) could trump his own novel.

lol it's soo funny b/c right after benny hit's the first guy you see usnavi run to him and it looks like he was tryin to help him, but then all you see is usnavi being on the bottom and thrown on the floor! it's soo funny how EVERYBODY got involved w/o even knowing the whole purpose for benny hitting the guy, and Vanessa getting involved was highly unecassary but funny XP

Love it! Saw it in NY and recently in LA at the Pantages. Trust - LA audience was all into it too! Saw it twice here cuz I missed Lin Manuel. Worth getting tix twice! :D Plus, he was a sweetheart and signed each autograph and took pictures for each person waiting at the stage door. Can't wait for the movie! :D

@Leadingdude Javier isn't an understudy. Well, he was. But he was supposed to be Usnavi originally until the producers told Lin they wanted him to do it. So Lin had a short run as Usnavi and then Javier took over with most of the original cast.
