  • lol @ the grand marshal: "(Say it right now?)"

Well, at least I have the part where the command is given up on YouTube, because I combined the version from SPEED with the one from ESPN Classic, which was done a decade ago. Even the full race, which cubs604 briefly had up, was missing the command to start engines.

  • Slick Johnson lol Who the hell is that? lol A+ on the name :)

  • @RobRokken

That's actually explained later in the race coverage. Oddly enough, Slick Johnson's father's name was also Junior Johnson, but this Junior was NOT the same guy who won the 1960 race and owned cars 11 & 12. The Junior Johnson that was Slick's father was from South Carolina, while the Junior Johnson that had cars 11 & 12 was (and is), of course, from North Carolina. That's very confusing, but if you watch the broadcast, you'll understand what I'm stating here.

  • Classic race. BTW this music reminds me of John Boy & Billy

  • @fly5155

Well it was a classic race...for 62 laps. Then Cale Yarborough dropped out with engine failure and the rest of the race, except for when Bill Elliott drafted Neil Bonnett in the latter stages because he was in fuel conservation mode, was a Bill Elliott victory parade. While I have a combined version on my channel between SPEED and ESPN Classic, cubs604 has the entire 1985 Daytona 500 on his channel, though his second and third hour-long videos were out of sync.

  • Finally this race has been uploaded! Thank you so much. Way to go Bill!

  • @rebelracing88

So far, only the part up through the first nine laps (part two). The rest will be uploaded in the next two days.

  • My all-time favorite Daytona 500 next would be 1987, Awesome Bill from Dawsonville, Georgia wins in only my 2nd time watching The Great American Race, CBS coverage had such awesome announcers like Ken Squier, Ned Jarrett and David Hobbs, other NASCAR drivers I'm a big fan of include "The King" Richard Petty, his son Kyle, Benny Parsons along with Geoff Bodine, then also, an Indy fixture A.J. Foyt, 1959-1987 was this sport's Glory Days until the restrictor plate took away any quest for speed! 8-)

  • Does anybody know the exact and complete story of how Jimmy Means got his immortal nickname, "Smut"? I'm only asking B/C it would be a real interesting story to hear.

  • @TheAntihero6212 That is a very good question as I've only heard Ken Squier call him that and have been wondering why since 1984!
