This economic crash is the consequence of past bad management. President Obama has inherited the mess from the past government, as The prime Gordon Brown is dealing with problems that he did not create. It is not fair to blame all to them as if they cause the crisis.

Gordon Brown did not create these problems as prime minister, youre right. He created them when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer for ten years (Tony Blairs finance minister). Back in 1997, he deregulated the banking sector and stood idly by as reckless lending occured. People with 110 percent morgages are not uncommon.

Have to agree with Thatcheriteme - Brown is certainly the author of Britain's dilapidated state. He oversaw as the 'prudent' Chancellor an almost unbelievable scale of public borrowing fuelled by a naive belief that 'boom and bust' could be eradicated.

Now, unfortunately, it is the humble taxpayer and saver that is reaping the whirlwind of Brown's folly. Hopefully they will, when he finally plucks up the courage to go to the electorate, wipe that smug and ugly grin off of his face.

A powerfull governement in general is corrupt. The right says its for "limited gov" but they lie, at least the left says they are for big gov and at least they are honest(not that i agree with that). For example the key for this crisis is that in 1999 under clinton the Glass-Steagall Act was repealed thanks to heavy Wall Street lobbying, this allowed comercial banks to merge with investment banks, causing the derivatives bubble which has now burst.

the glass-steagall didn't prevent shit. the problem is that during clinton and bush, and now obama the fed is rigging interest rates and keeping them artificially low, the government has a lot of moral hazards like tax deductions for mortages, mortgage guarantees and so on. the only people who needed more regulation were freddie and fannie, government creations.
