I think Jeff Buckley's version (which got raped on the OC and overplayed in general) is still one of the best all time great covers. Yeah... I was totally blown away when I discovered Beirut. More specifically, Zach Condon is from Santa Fe, New Mexico. He did quite a few tours in France I think because they accepted his music more than the crappy "music" (if you can even call it that) industry in America.
