i took this med for 2x periods, and experienced 2 main side effects. 1, being the weight gain. nothing massive. the 2nd being increasing suicidal tendancies. i know it was the med because i took it for 2x periods of around 6-8 months.both times the longer i was on it, the worse i got. i weaned off it, i improved in that area. ive been off it again now for about 6 months, and have hardly any suicidal thoughts.i was told that sometimes these meds can actually inflame what ur trying to control.

The thing science refuses is that every bodies body is different, sure they say it but applying it is living it, how one drug effects one person might not effect another in the same way. Simple as that. If it works good, but hopefully any body that 'has' to take medication can learn to heal themselves with out medication which in the end is far more taxing on your body.

im 18, ive been on zyprexa for about 4 years now sort of off and on. it does sort of give me a "doped" feeling, but maybe its bc im off and on, but i have never experienced weight gain. i do lead an active life and i am young but i really think it also depends on your lifestyle. i have gained weight over the years but probasbly a healthy amount of about ten to fifteen pounds over a 4 year period. i think its just because im growing.. i think it helps when im on it

I luv this drug. Only reason i use it is for appetite. I went from 108 lbs 5'10" to 150 lbs 5'10". Been on it for 5 years now. I understand this drug would suck for 99.99% of the population, but its good for those with eating disorders who suffer from being underweight and low appetite. If you don't have those problems then you should NEVER take this drug. There are way better anti-psychotics or mood stabilizers out there on the market.

As an update.... , I'm as right as rain today , but I do feel more than relief. I feel alot of extra energy and wellness. In all of this , I have , and had - no signs of having a cold or flu symptoms. The last thing I need is diabetes as well. I'm thinking a reinstatement of the 15mg / day would prove that I have had a bad reaction or this has been an unexpected side effect positively. I am giving some consideration as to why I wasn't prescribed 2.5 mg / day or such. Time will tell.

I keep rehashing how the nasal congestion began. It just hit me the first night when I tried to sleep. I wasn't getting a drop of air , so I paniced and went to the emergency room , where I got some nasal mist , in a pump. It wasn't until I spat everything that was getting into my mouth , thinking it was just nasal congestion , when really , it was a detox of the Zyprexa wearing off in the 4th day. Glad I can say this here to warn others , as I'm shaking a bit even now.

I can say for sure , that I remained awake for 4 days , even after trying to take a sleeping pill , and experienced not breathing at all through my mouth , when I was dozing off. I was sharply reawakened , which I found strange and repeatedly thought about. So , I dropped the Zyprexa pills , and now in 4 days , my nose is finally clear. Scarey to think that I was not going to breathe if I had dozed off in the 4 days. I watched tv the whole time and didn't even think then , it was the Zyprexa

I just realized today that my Zyprexa dosage of 15mg / day , caused me to develop a nasal congestion , that completely blocked me from breathing through my nose. Worse , I wasn't able to sleep and breathe. And here I am looking into it. I rushed to the hospital and got a nasal spray prescription and stopped taking my meds. It worked. And here I am sitting here reading about how I have taken about 1800mg of it in the last 4 months , when far less can leave you with pheumonia. I LIVED !

zyprexa can be a great drug ore a bad drug, nobody reacts the same way on these drugs, for some it worsk and for some it dosent. and about the weight gain, you yust have to control your eating while your on the drugs. its not the drug it self thats make you fat, it the hunger feeling the drug crate that can be a problem if you don watch out. but the best ting is to combine exersise and pills, that will benefit you. so all in all, zyprexa is a great drug if used correct.

I'd been on zyprexa for 1.5 years (holly shit! it was 1.5 years^^) starting with 20mg... until I stopped approx. 2 months.

TThis drug is officially called behind the doors (as other neuroleptica too): "braindamaging therapy" it damages higher brain functions and therefore stops 'illnes symptoms' (...)

If you are suffering from huge overweight:

Drink as much water as you can. 3 or 4 litters a day. I'm not joking this was my tactic - it worked

Yes, this drug is bad news. Taking it is like being between a rock and a hard place. Your psychotic "symptoms" will be squashed, but you will shorten your life and decrease the quality of your life secondary to the inevitability of diabetes and heart disease. I am furious. My huband had to be admitted to get off EffexorXr under hospital supervision. He was doing great last weekend, Clear and alert. now his doctors have just put him on Zyprexa. And yes, he was diagnosed with diabetes and has a heart condition and his speach is slurred. I can't believe it. With all the law suits and evidence condeming this drug (and others). Generally psychedelic drugs (which I assume you are referring to) usually do not cause psychosis in the vast majority people, even after repeated use. LSD has actually been used to successfully treat psychosis in a few cases. However, if the person has any underlying potential for psychosis, the psychedelic may "bring it out", but generally all strictly drug-induced psychoses are temporary and reversible.

I only tried one antipsychotic drug and it was Risperdal and it made me fat without the hunger, I have also been prescribed Seroquel but took it for like two days. I guess if these meds are necessary for some cases like extreme psychosis they should be used for that. They gave it to me because I was already on a stimulant med and one out of all of them made me paranoid, so it wasn't needed unless I was on that drug which they will not give me anymore (Dexedrine).

Compare the salaries of the shrinks, to the payouts of ssdi. I would say shrinks get at least 100K a year. I have a computer science degree so why would I want to collect 600 a month in ssdi when my degree is worth 60-100K a year?The patients are not the ones who truly profit from being drugged. It is the drug companies, for which one year Eli Lilly made half of all their profits off zyprexa alone.I don't agree with my labels either, but they drugged me anyway and now I have a heart condition.

oh, and whoever called themselves a "recovering marijuana addict" doesn't know what an addict is. I've been addicted to benzos (xanax, valium, etc) which I just recently got over..marijuana has no withdrawal syndrome like other drugs..you might get depressed for a while, but it's nothing life-threatening..trust me, I used to smoke everyday all day for about a year till I just quit one day cause I couldn't afford it anymore. When my mom was having a hard time with me as a teenager (sneaking out w/a boyfriend @ 16), she convinced me see a psychiatrist.He prescribed zyprexa.She said if I was normal it wouldn't do anything to me. I hated Zypexa...I gained 20kg in approx 3 weeks, I felt like a walking zombie and I would find my self sleep walking....it is a crap med and did nothing for my illness...I take solian now which is heaps better but I guess with these types of drugs they all have some shitty side effects!

no you didnt gain 20 kg in 3 weeks from the drug,you must have binge eaten to extreme to do this,zyprexa increases appetite ,its on the packet but not to this extent.

Ooops accidently pressed the enter key...I am just saying zyprexa was no good for me, I did not binge eat at all!! I also play sports twice a week, it was the first med I was on and the weight gain was due to it and also the zombie affect. Just because it was not good for me doesn't mean it won't be good for someone else, we are all individuals and our chemical makeup is different. I have success with solian but someone else may not.

i was on 5mg dude i gained 40 and then lost half of it.. it does not make you feel good at all. i was doped. im glad i dont have to take it anymore
