@jaffagold1 Agreed. My family and I went to Edinburgh a few years back, and it was truly embarassing watching how some of my fellow Americans behaved. Loud and obnoxious, many of them seemed to forget that WE were the guests in another country, and need to respect the people and their history. I think that a lot of Americans assume traveling abroad is like going to an amusement park, where it's everyone's job to plaster on smiles and cater to their every need. Doesn't work like that.

Just visited Bruge this weekend. Food, shopping, food, shopping, horse & carriage rides, boat trips round the canals., food, shopping.....aka the Venice of The North. Strange seeing places where they shot scenes from the movie. Expected to see a body falling from the bell tower and a midget walking by. The people I spoke to in Bruge said they liked the movie because it helped tourism but they distance themselves from the story - they are not like that and things like that do not happen in Bruge

I consider the idea of being British a matter of opinion though, i see 'British' as just a collective term that came to include Ireland through invasion, like if you're from England your nationality is not primarily British but English i think (just in my own opinion), like i'm from Ireland and dont consider myself British but i of course don't have anything against people who call themselves British, it's their absolute right. It's just a matter of personal choice on how you feel.
