Words cannot express my dislike of this video and this stupid exercise in rebranding. They got rid of a brand logo that has been around since the dawn of the internet, for, well, what is essentially nothing. Anyway the logo is hideous and the commercial looks like they went out and bought a stock 'lets be hip' video, from like 10 years ago.
Who is your brand agency? I think that I saw this on Vimeo a while back and I thought that some elements are nice - I would recommend going with abstracts imagery over the people shots. The guy in the beginning is _really_ bad.
I would have gone retro with the branding and not so futuristic as to not even make sense... my favorite is the guy's face with the shoes kicking him in the chest.
Paint. Bye paint. Duuuuuude. Cardboard cameras! What was that diamondy thing? NIce kickflip. More paint? Uh, you're gonna have to pay for that. WTF. Hey, why are they running on that guy?
I'd love to see the bill from the marketing consultants who came up with this. I'd like to be a fly on the wall for the meeting too. ("Um, so what does Aol do, does anybody know? Sh*t, we have to give them something... they'll be here in an hour... Stefan, get out that CD-ROM of stock footage... and you, gimme your iPod and let's see what kind of theme music you've got on there."
it's actually not a bad commercial. the moves at the end are pretty cool -- good thing to leave us with. will this help to shake the image of clueless n00bs poking around in cyberspace like they just hit puberty and the whole world seems new? i could be wrong, but...
If you can't get people talking about you because you've done something good, at least get people talking about you because you did something ridiculously horrible.

I just recently saw this new "Aol." logo. I thought the Walmart logo was so bad, this is so many galaxies beyond worse than the Walmart Logo.
